go play some thing fun instead like sc1 and just wait for a key. It's pretty much a waste of time and pretty boring to try and be good at a game you don't even have.

Sounds funny, but I'm serious. Here's some reasons why: -You'll be going through the process of practicing and thinking about a new game, which is an essential skill to have when SC2 comes out. -The WC3 interface is much closer to SC2 than SCBW is. -FFA takes a considerable amount of macro, much more than WC3 solo. :D

I'm doing that atm, but the AIs out so far are either too easy and stupid, or way too powerful, so it's not much fun.

I found that to be one of the biggest helps in SC2. Because I was so used to playing high speed in SC1, I was able to use this speed in SC2, especially with the new macro mechanics (Chrono Boost, Queen, Mule). Even if you practice 200 apm in SC1, and it turns out in SC2 you only play at 100 apm, the apm training in SC2 probably still had an effect. If you didn't APM train in SC1 maybe you would only be at 50 apm in SC2. Also I would look at some general theories and guides on competetion and playing to win, such as the ones at sirlin.net. Also, Day 9's old SC1 podcasts teach concepts which apply to pretty much all RTS including SC2.

I've got beta key like 3 weeks after beta started and my builds were "shaped" by streams and strats/discussions on TL (with my slight modifications ofc). They worked very well

Or play DoW2, because it's a great game and you'll learn how to Multitask very well. Personally, I've played lots of SC1, WC3, DoW1, DoW2 and SC2 and I've probably improved the most in SC1, because you'll learn skills essential to playing other RTS-games, but if you wanna focus on Multitasking, which is a skill you'll need in every RTS, you should play DoW2. in WC3, you'll learn stuff that's helpful for other RTS as well, but not like in SC or DoW2. Just try to get your APM up as high as possible and get in a mindset were you really focus on playing fast and having good mechanics - this stuff will transfer very well to SC2. I've had like 250 APM in SC1 and I have that high of an APM in other RTS as well, just because I focus on playing fast and mechanically good, other than trying to abuse cheesy builds, because it's jsut better in the long run and I enjoy playing very fast and focused when playing an RTS. But really: Check out DoW2, it's IMHO after the Blizzard-RTS' the only RTS that's really good and requires a lot of skill and can be enjoyed playing on a professional level or watching Pro's play, because you need lots of Multitasking: You're constantly running around with 4+ squads trying to capture/decapture Points, or attacking/harrassing your opponent, in addition to that, you'll have lots of different spells/skills to use. It feels a bit like playing 4 or more heroes at once in DoTA, but micro-management is very different. Besides, you can get the Core-Game for about 20-30 Bucks (which means you can't play Chaos, but all the other races and even they're new Units that came with the new addon, or you'll buy the Addon where you can only play Chaos in Multiplayer - or you can just buy both.) ^^'

Ahah, yes this I like the suggestion of the apm UMS maps on SC:BW, but I wouldn't suggest you to play too much SC:BW unless you've never played it before because it will teach many wrong things about SCII (e.g. unit counters, muta stacking, single building selection etc). If you've never played SC of any form, then maybe you can play SC:BW to get the feel of it, i.e. train to macro like a beast.
