Good chat overall, good to see we are getting channels.
And im happy to see there going to address the readability of the game, not that I had a issue with it in the first place.
And I think just like in the past you'll be able to connect with other servers in the full game, what there talking about is having friends list and convos between servers. Thats my take on it.

some decent questions overall, thought they would be worse >

Like your average blizzcon question?

nice, overall i'm happy with most of the answers. also hope it's true with can go to other servers but can't play ladder there, that's ok, just custom games. imagine proleague showmatch between us, eu and asia!

Meh I can't say this helped dissipate the fears i have for beta

Each interview M.Bowder gives makes him a little more laughable.

Thanks for the post.
I can't believe some of this stuff. Some of it's good to hear but others (lack of connection/friends internationally, no map auto-mirroring, no multiple-profiles, etc) I just don't understand.

i wonder how will they deal with clan tags and clan changes?

There's so much missing in Battle.net 2.0. It's so unfinished it's incredible. We'd be lucky to even get chat channels for release. Did they start Bnet development only recently? Didn't they foresee there'd be a plethora of features to be implemented? Yet they hardly have the basic ones ready. So many limitations, so much unfinished work, so much left for expansions or patches far after the release. That's not how you develop a product.

Like your ladder rank and profile and all that being the same for all servers. It would seem strange for them to only allow a connection to be made to one server or another. Really don't think so, unfortunately. Blue already confirmed in the feedback forums that there WILL BE GATEWAY (Region) SELECTION with the launch of the game. You will be able to create a fresh account on each gateway and play on EU, US and Korea. What you will not get is the information. like ladder stats etc etc. It will not be shareable between regions. Now, stop making shit up. EDIT: sorry for the bold text I hope you are correct. Please provide a source if you can find that post.

Very nice chat ^^. I enjoyed reading it, thanks for posting it!

This Dev chat just caused TERRIBLE TERRIBLE damage to the SC2 community
seriously though,
I'm glad we're getting chat channels.. I'm concerned about the latency being too high (240 ms) I'm also worried about not being able to watch replays together :I I'm sad that the high ground mechanic wasn't brought up..
|
Seems mostly positive to me, it's awesome that they're looking at latency and it will be interesting to see how things go in the next few weeks. Collaborative replay watching we can wait for, and chat channels were mostly used for clans anyway (they can just use irc or something, not ideal, but still ...).
If you can't change gateway then that really will be a problem, but I can't believe they would artificially do that for launch. There would be absolutely no point. It's probably just a misunderstanding as people have said.

People are acting like LAN not being in and replays not being watched together is new news o.0 We've known this for like a year

A. Currently we do not have plans to integrate friends between regions for launch. In the long run that's definitely something we'll be looking at. don't even bother releasing the game without this
Well, any of those complaining ever thought about latency?
New York to Tokio is 15.000 km. The speed of light is approx 300k km/sec
That means you have an innate latency of 100 ms (as ping is roundtrip time) under _perfect_ conditions without any delays on any site with everything being fiber channel.
In a real world scenario it would more likely be between 200 and 400 ms, with spikes making it even worse. Having cable internet in germany which is more or less the perfect connection type (20-30 ms eu.battle.net/europe.battle.net), my traceroute to asia.battle.net stops (as it is blocked then) at an average of 350 ms...
That is unacceptable for competitive play. Unless you outsmart the speed of light, it will never be possible.
Okay, you could optimize by putting the servers in the middle between the opponents, but that does not scale all over the place.

A. Units that have been cut from the game completely will NOT be in the editor. However, there are many units that make an appearance in the single-player campaign that WILL be available to use in the editor, such as the Medic, Firebat, and Goliath. Well you can kiss the lurker goodbye until the zerg expansion! What also sucks is that means the mod community cannot create SC1 mod until all the expansions are out. I think you can import custom models etc.

counter argument: If in sc1 it also wasn't possible to play with people in other continents then the TSL wouldn't have been possible or would have been USA only.
Do you start to have an idea of what b.net 2.0 is gonna do with competitive play?
I don't feel like going into a technical discussion about this, but every other competitive game had the option of playing against people all over the world, removing that is a big step backwards and ridicoulus
