Q. Will you be able to host and share replays via Battle.net?

A. This is definitely our long-term goal. This will not be ready at ship, but we do intend to release functionality that allows you to share your replays in a patch sometime after ship.

Fail.
Super serious.

I threw up a little in my mouth.
Everyone should just download the U.S. installer, that would work right?

just thought of something, I'm assuming this is for the "pro" league too? lol, I'm already excited for ICCup 2.0

It's becoming increasingly clear that Bnet 2.0 will not be truly implemented until the entire SC2 trilogy is out. Pretty much all of their answers regarding Bnet features are "after launch". On one hand it's good that we have a lot of guaranteed content on the horizon, but it's kinda worrying how this will impact SC2's esport scene on launch day. Even if it took SC1 a long time, people are going to expect SC2 to be an esport right out of the gate, and that's going to be a lot harder if the game still doesn't have online replays or cross-region play by release.

Hopefully we can at least change their minds on some things, because Bnet 2.0 has so many tiny issues that it adds up to a large problem and makes it a lot less polished.

No, you'd need a U.S. battle.net account with a U.S. SC2 purchase on it.

Q. Can we expect have new maps or the map editor in the beta soon?

A. Yes. We will be adding a few new maps as we continue to release patches including a few 3v3 and 4v4 maps. Additionally, we are hoping to release the map editor to the community sometime in April.

All i want is a 3v3 twilight fortress style map and i can say goodbye to the next 6 years.

Anything near as fun as BGH now and I'll be set. 4v4 RT was one of my favorite parts of WC3 and I look forward to both the RT and AT experience in bigger maps with a new game.

This, though, is absolutely absurd. They have a dedicated e-sports team, how did they not tell them how ridiculous it is to not have this function available immediately at launch. I'm pretty disappointed with the new bnet so far but figured it wasn't a huge deal, its all stuff they can patch in later. This makes me think they really have no idea how to provide a good service to the players.

Surely they could just let us choose a different server set and allows us to make a separate login. That would be so easy. It doesn't need to be super integrated, we just need to be able to cross the ocean once in awhile.

OOOOO ok yeah maybe your right. Maybe they will just let us pick what server we want to login too, but they are saying u can't play with, or msg people on another server. Thats not a big deal then. I feel better already ^^

You missed out the other questions on page 2 of the thread:

Q. How exactly does the ladder/division/league system work? How do players move up and down? What exactly is the top 8 for? Tournaments?

A. We are working on a FAQ for this right now that we will release to the community soon. At some point in the future we will be looking at doing tournaments and that is what the top positions are for.

Q. Will units that have been cut from the game still be in the Galaxy Editor, or higher tier units from original StarCraft?

A. Units that have been cut from the game completely will NOT be in the editor. However, there are many units that make an appearance in the single-player campaign that WILL be available to use in the editor, such as the Medic, Firebat, and Goliath.

Q. Will there be an option that allows you to choose between different customized hotkey configurations?

A. We are in the process of adding a few hotkey templates for ship which include left and right-handed "name-based" options. Grid based left and right-hand templates. Finally, we also intend to add a "Classic" hot key template which will, as best as possible, attempt to mimic the hotkey settings from the original game. We'll default to "name-based" right-handed for ship, but the end user can then choose from any of the other four templates.

Long term we're exploring allowing fully customizable hot keys. Assuming we can solve the many user interface challenges to make this work we will either release it in a patch or in the upcoming expansion.

Q. Will you be adding additional zoom-out levels since it was suggested by a lot of players?

A. No, we will not be adding zoom-out levels. StarCraft II plays well only at a very specific camera height. Too close and you cannot see what is going on, too far and you cannot effectively micro your units. We have picked a camera position that maximizes the tension between the player's need to see a lot of space as well as micro units. There are also game perfomance implications of a zoomed out camera. If we zoom out more, we are drawing more units on screen at one time and game perfomance will suffer.

Q. The protoss templar line seems much less reliable to use than a robo build. Same for terran mech builds. What are your plans?

A. We are looking hard at the terran mech builds and will hopefully bring out some fixes in the next patch. I don't know that I agree that Templars not useful. We are certainly seeing that at some skill levels, but other skill levels are getting quite a bit out of High Templars. We will continue to evaluate as we go forward in the beta.

Q. Will more than one user profile per account be allowed?

A. At ship we intend to have only a single profile per user. This encourages better player behavior and allows us to do better match-making between players. It obviously causes a number of issues. For example I may want to try a new race as a player but I'm afraid of losing rating, what do I do? We are looking to fix these types of issues for launch.

Q. High and Dark Templars have split into two techs. Are you seeing a lot of people just going for other tech options now?

A. High Templars are not a given in every game, nor are Dark Templar, but we are certainly seeing these units get a lot of use.

Q. Do you agree with players about the zerg voice, or are you happy with it?

A. We are looking at pulling some different takes for the zerg Queen that change the personality of her voice (a little bit).

Q. Who would win in a fight, Greg Street or Dustin Browder?

A. The battle would be close, but both parties would suffer TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE DAMAGE!

Today's #BlizzChat is now over! We'd like to especially thank our StarCraft II Game Director Dustin Browder and Production Director Chris Sigaty for their time, and thank you to all who participated!

I'm a little disappointed that they view getting an Archon as something you do just for the hell of it once your HTs run out of energy.

no kidding.
reading through the interview really makes my heart sink at just how many things won't be included in the game

it's almost as if theyre purposely trying to push the limits of how many features they can get away with not including

might as well take archons out of the game then. what a waste of a unit if thats all their vision of it is

Yeah, I definitely think this is the case. To think that Blizzard will not let someone from Europe play with someone from the USA is just madness. They have put so much emphasis on SC2 being a big e-sports game, it would be suicide to not allow it. The game would plain and simply not do well if they did that.

Although I suppose simply buying a game from Europe or Asia would fix this problem. But I honestly think it is next to impossible that they meant to say you are bound to your server. That would be such a gigantic step backwards.

Well you can kiss the lurker goodbye until the zerg expansion! What also sucks is that means the mod community cannot create SC1 mod until all the expansions are out.

This game has been in development long enough. I'm not in the beta and I don't want to wait another full year for them to add everything before I can try it out. Currently, it has enough for a decent game, and the other stuff will be added later. One way or another, you wait for those features.
As for dividing the community; I think it will take more than seperate servers to do that. As long as these servers remain a community hub, then we'll keep contact. It would be interesting if Battle net could support cross-server tournaments, but for the general games, it might bring too much lag.
This road isn't leading anywhere...

Why not have a rating per race, your highest rating determines your ladder position.

A. Static defenses have always been vulnerable in StarCraft. They are used primarily to defend against raids, not to stop frontal assaults.

That's disappointing; was hoping to have ALL the units in the editor. Why don't they just include them? I assume they have the models, and code already, so it shouldn't be that hard ....

They probably intend to reuse them in future Starcraft 2 installments.

Consider the Soul Hunter: not really a good unit for multiplayer because of its weird mechanics targeted towards biological units, but definitely something you could see popping up in the Protoss campaign down the road.
