StarCraft II Beta - Patch 4 (version 0.6.0.B14259B)
General
* Korea
o Added support to display the game rating information on the F10 in-game menu within the beta.
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=23094049316&postId=236120179757&sid=5000#4
LOL? :/ what does this even mean? afaik we NA users dont get any game rating info in F10 menus :/
+ Show Spoiler [old nonsense] +EDIT: apparently the servers are back up and no patch.
however bnet's news post is very clear, it says "game update that you will need to restart the client in order to update the game" Either that message was just a mistake, or there was some issue and they're still going to patch, if they can.according to the news item @ Battle.net login, they've taken the server down now to update the game let this be the patch thread, will update with more info as we get it I'm really hoping to see Lurkers return (hopefully to Lair!). because they are totally sweeeeeeet units and supposedly were removed because nobody used them (Hive tech). but most likely, since this game has been in testing state pre-beta for soooooooooo long, it's just going to be more minor tweaks..nothing major
I'm glad I wasn't in the middle of a game...
Ya I was in a 2v2 when I got dropped lol EDIT: It says all you have to do is fully quit out of sc2, then relaunch but it seems it's not back up yet... any guesses on an eta?
mothership reduced to 50 hp and 50 shields, vortex removed.
also its energy is capped at 1 less than is needed to cast mass recall
calling it
lol gretorp won a game 30 seconds before it was gonna end. what a boss.
oh good Blizzard got my request to further nerf Protoss.
Lets hope for a zerg nerf since zerg didnt get touch by the previous patch

are they so impatient that they cant give like a good 15 or 20 mins in advance. it's always 5 or 10 mins, screwing up everyone's games

ugh.. in the middle of a placement match
I hope they do something to the zerg. Like perhaps their missing unit would be awesome. But anything really.
maybe it will give some changes to the zerg, been playing random because i got bored of macro winning games with zerg nothing to interesting to do with them right now or maybe give me the ability to fe against protoss instead of only against terran
was about to win when the server went down v_V
It's 8:30 on Friday night; they probably want to patch and go home now instead of giving people 20 minutes heads up.
this is the scheduled weekly maintenance (god knows why they those friday night for the maintenance hours)
yeah i hope its some zerg adjustments. got into the beta today and played about 30 games random and i gotta say, zerg is boring as fuck.
I think the lack of innovation with zerg is mostly due to level of play atm rather than a problem with the race...but then thats my theory with every race right now...just like bw, 5 years from now people will be figuring out amazing new strats with the same old units. it just won't be the people complaining about it now me thinks.
I am a random player and I do not find zerg to be boring. That being said I would personally be happy to see the return of the lurker.

yeah after playing like 300 games all as zerg, trying to dedicate myself to them as much as possible, i'm seriously considering switching races because it's just such a boring race right now. Nydus worms, and Burrow are pretty much the only things that are fun right now. infestors are only fun in very specific circumstances

But random is my favorite to play since a little of every race doesn't get boring.
As a Terran player I hope to god lurkers stay far far away.
On March 06 2010 13:44 Zelniq wrote: Nydus worms, and Burrow are pretty much the only things that are fun right now. infestors are only fun in very specific circumstances I don't get this, and never have. Burrow is the coolest mechanic that you can do so much with, I never got why it was underused or people didn't explore it more.
I play random and find zerg a little boring but it puts up my best win ratios by far, don't think I've lost a ZvP in 5-6 days and with 70% of the ladder playing toss that works out nicely
God please let them nerf roaches... and please start it back up!
How long do these take usually? Happened right when I was finishing off this guy's last buildings. -_-;;
Fingers crossed for probes now created at gateway
Wow 4'th day in a row? Thought it was a usual maintenance.
it's back up

Burrow isn't used because it is so easily defeated. For burrow move harass, one cannon, one turret, or one observer and it's over.
For the amount of investment required to make it work, it is just not worth it. Also the infestor is really expensive and takes a long time to save up energy, so using it for harass is just not worth it at the moment.
Burrowing ambushes works well but I only really have any luck with banelings in certain situations. But I still don't have the hang of them. They are so all or nothing, if you screw up you can end up without an army. Sometimes you burrow them at the ramp only to get dropped in your main.
I'm sure there will be some changes but I'm hoping some of them happen now.

@0neder: burrow's usefulness is only in the earlier stages of the game for the most part, and being lair tech it's only a fairly narrow window. players will have overseers/observers/scans/ravens for the most part to make burrow's uses really limited, plus it often backfires as you'll just lose a bunch of your burrowed units if they detect it when moving out.
upgrade for for increased energy on infestors is cheap and I've found the casts use such little energy that it's not really that bad..of course utilizing them effectively has been hard, but they are a godsend against protoss heavy units if you can micro them right
Patch still coming I think, servers may be back up but the lobby still says update happening prepare to download. And I agree with having observers out ruining burrow, but overseers and more especially ravens are unlikely. And scan of course doesn't actually get you all the way to the enemies base. Ravens cost 200 gas I think, take a tech lab (instead of a reactor which would let you produce medivacs at twice the rate) etc so at least against terran I would say burrow is very useful. Especially if you decide on banelings. I think in SC1 nobody ever got it because those 100 gas were much more important for mutas or early lair, plus the only units that would've benefitted from it were zerglings. In SC2 I'm sure it's much more useful, people are just predjudiced against it =P

so its back up and no patch...?
On March 06 2010 14:01 t3tsubo wrote: so its back up and no patch...? That seems to be the case for me as well. There isn't even anything on their patch notes page... Hmm, strange...?
Since this thread has turned into a burrow discussion, I guess I'll join in. Burrow can be useful in ZvZ with roaches. If you can make it into Lair, it's definitely worth it because you can just burrow a roach when it gets low health then unburrow and totally screw the ai.
On March 06 2010 14:01 t3tsubo wrote: so its back up and no patch...?
You can log in again, but the login screen still displays the message saying "We're planning for an update on friday march 5th 8PM PST, if you don't have the update installed already you'll be forced to exit your client and restart. Was saying that same message for all the other patches too I think so presumably it's still coming. Why they plopped the servers back up I don't know
I still cant connect to battle net, EU.

imo remove banelings and corruptors and return lurkers and scourge for epicness and actual usefulness from burrow (right now the only race w/o a unit that can attack while invis is zerg). scourging obs/overseers/ravens + burrowed lurkers would be sooooo nice
it would make zvz like 100 times more interesting as well
also should probably make roaches weaker vs zealots/zerglings but not make them almost useless vs immortals.

!!! it just went down and no warning. looks like i was right
Nevermind, they're likely applying a patch.
Server just went down again maybe patch time now
Yeah, it totally just went down randomly. Luckily I expected it and was just pissing around in a custom game, =P
Its up, its down, its up, its down, its up, its down. These dcs are weird, because sometimes youll randomly get a win or a loss... bah!
oh its back down.
do you know if the ladder game you are in at that time counts as a win or a loss?
Just got dced from a game. Maybe they're patching for reals now lol
Just play custom games when it's turbulent. Gives you a chance to poke around with things. =) I wish we could play offline though. D=
and were back down....right during my victory dance lol

Yeah that pretty much sums it up they could have silently implemented this and i'm sure no one would have noticed
If the server has to go down, could they be making modifications/patches to Bnet itself? That maybe wouldn't show up in a patch notes, but i'm sure there's stuff they could be updating/tweaking that would still require there to be a patch.

wow i was sure we was the march 6th and not the april 1st

i remember they used to do these contentless patches in wc3 when they'd do stealth things like update Warden to get rid of hackers

imo any time they find a new way to detect hacks they should leave it in for like a week and then permanently ban everyone that hacked.

Its not really finding a new way of detecting hacks, its just basically adding more offsets to be scanned by warden. And warden already operates in a way such that it is hard to tell what exactly triggered your ban (IE: it waits til a certain predetermined time and bans everyone who was caught prior to that).

First I read you post and was thinking "what?" Then I re-read it and was like, oohhhh lool.
You'd think they would waid to include this dinky change in a future patch. I guess the "game rating information" is important for legality or something along those lines perhaps.
