[Q] Mules on gold mineral patches

Do mules mine more on golden mineral patches?? If so, do you think a viable strat would be to save up energy on a couple of orbital commands and then expand at a gold minerals and then call down like 5-6 mules instantly when it finishes?

I thought mules only gathered faster because they could gather while another worker was gathering. Maybe I am wrong on this?

most golden mineral expands are very vulnerable, so it would be a huge risk to take to save mana for that..

and also I don't even know if they mine more haha never tried it

well, even just taking it as a first expo and saving to 200/200 on your main. If you gain the bonus minerals from gold patches it would more than pay for itself after even just the 1st round of mules I would think.

Yeah you need to be able to fly a CC over there and then defend it for at least 100 game seconds. You would also need a ton of gas to make that much mineral useful in such a short amount of time.

I've seen a lot of games where a player holds on to a high yield expansion for a long time. I don't think the OP is talking about it being the 1st expansion so I don't see why this wouldn't work.

I wasn't trying to sound defensive. I haven't even played the game. I'm just thinking out loud here. If you say it doesn't work I suppose I can take your word for it. However, I am still curious if the mule shares the gold minerals bonus the the scv gets.

The unknown factor is whether Mules mine 30 per trip from both normal and hi-yield minerals or if they mine more than 30 at a hi-yield.

I think mules should be able to get gas, but that would be broken :>

But 2 or 3 Mules can work 1 patch without getting in each other's way, just like SCVs.

Mules definitely get more from high-yield patches than normal ones, CharlieMurphy did testing on this and found the high yield give around 370 full trip while the normals give in the high 200's.

mules do 30 on blue, 42 on yellow, works out to 270 on blue over 9 trips and 378 on yellow.

they bring in 30 minerals per trip IIRC (on regular minerals). Don't know what they do on gold

they don't stack, but they can mine the same mineral, as long as they can find a way to fit around it.

I think this is viable in a less drastic fashion. Like if you are planning to take a gold expansion anyways, then maybe you skip a MULE round at your other bases.

Letting your energy build up to a high level probably isn't good in any circumstance - (1) you're essentially several mules down for a long period of time, leaving you open to attack, (2) if you are able to withstand this time period, you'd be better off using the mules and building more orbital commands in the first place.

slightly on topic, had a crazy game the other day where at the start of the game a terran lifted off and landed on a high yield and proceeded to make 6rax and pump marines, surprised the hell out of me when at the 7min mark he comes to my expan with literally 35+ marines

you guys are both wrong, MULEs actually take longer per trip mining than an SCV but they gain so much more per trip, so it seems faster. Or maybe you're just wording it bad.
