Or he could have just micro'd his ultralisks better and tech-switched to mutalisks.

What Trap said concerning the mutalisk comment.
And micro the ultras better? they melted within 1-2 seconds each. That's no space for micro, that's a Hardcounter in action.

haha, does anyone else find it hilarious when people say "tech-switch" and "hardcounter" in day[9]'s thread?

I think a few dailys on zerg would be good, considering they seem to be having the most problems. I'd like to see a focus on -
What Koreans are doing, I read a comment saying they 'play safe'. I saw those check replays and the oppenents seemed to make mistakes (like scouting a undefended gold put pushing the zergs front). Some analysis on the difference in play styles would be great.
Zerg openings. They all seem to be about staying alive, zerg doesn't seem to have any interesting early timing pushes except all in baneling busts. It's really sad compared to terran.
The mobility abuse that is referanced but never shown. Again, I saw nydus used in a check replay against a cannon contain but I don't see it as a solid strategy.
Maybe some evidence of this would progress peoples ideas and stuff.

I stand with you on the Techswitch-side, but Immortal IS a hardcounter for Ultras.
They counter them hard 1on1. And in the situaion in the replay, they got raped every time.
Avoiding the term of hardcounter seems rather shady just for the sake of day9 saying there are no "counters".
There are. But you usually don't have situations where those units stand against each other 1on1
In our example, there was simply too many immortals for Ultras to be anything but wasted money.
Aww, I'll quit the nitpicking - not as good in English as I'd be in German ;P

Oh, and I'd be very much interested in more dailies on Zerg.

Funny detail: I just had a game against a Toss going Collossi, and "abused his immobility" pretty well I think
If anyone cares to take a look, that's the Replay:
http://www.gamereplays.org/community/uploads/repimgs/repimg-33-135884.jpg

Sure, it's only platinum league, but anyways.

PS: Feel free to bash my massive overflow on Minerals/Gas at the end ^^

Dear Day9,
You are always talking about exploiting immobility of terran or protoss as zerg by drops, nyduses, running away etc. but I never ever saw it actually done. Are there any replays/VODs you could reccomend, or is it just "yet to be done" thing?

THIS.
I hear people talk about "abusing immoboloty" against Toss and Terran ALL THE TIME,
but what good does mobility if you cannot kill his base faster than he can yours,
WHILE still being able to kill 2 150 Food Armies in row if he has to?

there was exactly one way our Zerg in todays daily could have won this game, and that'd have been MASS Broodlords.
Not just 3, or 8. About 13-16 i Guess. Which is insane...

With enough herass and abuse of Protoss (and Terrans) immobility they won't have this "money mix" army, I think thats what Day9 thinks and why he advises us to abuse it. I think a few Banelings in his mineral line at his third could have helped a lot for example.

Well, and here lies the core problem, sure "counters" exist if you let 2 different units collide and do battle, BUT, the thing is, we arent playing immortal vs ultralisk, we are playing protoss vs. zerg (in this example)
in other words, if zerg does not use his racial advantages (speed, flanking oportunities, nydus, drops, you name it...) he will run against the wall with ultras if his opponent does have that many immortals

The solution to zergs "disadvantages spot" would be so swing around the slow protoss army and attack an expo, maybe with a nydus somewhere in the back to have a safe retreat path, or even fancier, after retreating into the nydus, having yet another nydus pop up inside the protoss main, so the zerg can travel from the protoss' third, directly into the main, and put on even more hurt

to finish my daydream about zerg killing everthing in it's path... the issue is not that immortals are "counters" to ultras, the issue is that zerg willingly ran headlong into em

Not sure what it is, but I haven't been able to watch Day9 for the past few weeks because blip.tv doesn't buffer properly anymore. My internet is fairly bad due to my location (just outside town where nobody wants to install higher speed connections, qq) so normally I'd watch them after he posts them. A month or two ago I could open one or two up, walk away and let them buffer and be golden (buffered 3 hours worth between two broadcasts, came back hours later and didn't have an issue watching them).

Now it'll only buffer a couple minutes and then stop until I start watching. Tried watching White-ra vs. IntotheRainbow and after trying to let it buffer overnight (!) when I hit play I didn't even get to actual gameplay (maybe 3 mins in) before it started pausing to buffer every 4 seconds. Been like that with a lot of the recent dailies, too. It also likes to auto-play if it was paused and when it hits the end it removes the video buffer so I can't just hit replay like many youtube videos.

Not sure if that's a blip.tv thing or not. I've noticed even some youtube videos (but not all) will do the same "stop buffering partway through" which is annoying when my connection can't buffer it faster than I can watch it. Hulu seems to know how to buffer on my horrible connection though.

Any way to switch to the older blip.tv style or some other workaround?

We already had sen style : 'Muta + lings' vs artosis style: 'roach + hydra'.

You have to be very skilled using the first one, like spreading your mutas when encountring thors.

Roach + hydra and evolution chamber is rock solid style.

Oh, so you want to turn every game into a ridiculous ending with random base-trading? Day9's great, but his idea that counters don't exisit is silly. I understand his point: The game isn't one big unit tester where opponents' smash two armies together and the one best composed to beat the other wins. There are other variables, but you still can't ignore that important factor. Zerg's strength is it's ability to react in mass. That strength is an entirely counter-based concept

And everyone needs to stop with this Nydus Worm crap. They're garbage offensively at high level play -- you won't win many games with a a Nydus Worm that you wouldn't have won otherwise. They take forever to build...they make a loud noise when they spawn...and they poop units out one at a time. If Ogre used one in that last game, XLord would have arrived at the Nydus Worm and the best composed army still would have won.

And lastly, Day9, I love you (no homo), but I'M CALLING YOU OUT! If you're gonna sit behind your web cam and call out all Zerg players for not using Nydus Worms enough, you need to back it up with some action. You're not some random non-Zerg playing noob who starts threads every minute about what Zerg can do to win games. You're a pro and YOU PLAY ZERG (one-third of the time...)! I invite you to do a daily on Nydus Worm usage in high level play. And if you can't find a Zerg game to use as a spotlight, find the nearest mirror, buddy, haha...get on the Ladder and make some magic happen. Or better yet, up the ante and dominate the HDH2 with your innovative Nydus Worm play. Make the entire Zerg community look like a bunch of fools for ignoring this powerful weapon at our disposal.

Look, everyone and their mother seems to have the best ideas for how Zerg can better win games, but it crosses the line when one of the elite players in the game is giving out advice and not using it himself. THE LINE HAS BEEN DRAWN, MY FRIEND!

P.S. Haha, I really do love you, Day9 (again, no homo), and I hope you take this challenge to heart and prove me wrong. As a fan of yours and a Zerg player, nothing would make me happier.
