my new computer is overheating, so i had to go out and buy a zalman fan. trying to install it as we speak, so there's no way i'll be up and running in 30 minutes. sorry folks x.x
Mr Plott I know that you probably know you way around a computer as a CS major and have plenty of friends and community offers of help, but let me extend myt hand as well.
I run a little computer building business and I am *very* expereinced in the ins and outs of getting a rig up and running.
You can send me a PM or catch me on AIM (fizzybill) if you need some help.
I trully dont mind.

It may be in your best interest to call the motherboard or videocard manufacturer. I've built probably 20 PCs from scratch, but still have occasional slip-ups. In one case, I called the mobo manufacturer (Chaintech) and was helped over the phone to fix a sort of niche problem that was causing the PC not to boot properly -- one of the brass standoffs in the case was misaligned and was touching the back of the southbridge. =s
Additionally, you might try posting on the forums @ hardocp.com for help with your specific issue. Really good people over there.

I've been working on this computer all weekend, and it's just error after error after error. 100% no cast tomorrow, and likely not tuesday. I just don't have any more energy to work on it, and then I have to go to work starting tomorrow.
Seriously worst week ever and then worst weekend ever. All I want is a pretty new working computer :[

ok so, something is really weird w/ this motherboard.
I originally hooked everything up, it was working and I was installing windows 7 happily, but then the CPU was overheating so it kept cold crashing. I went out to purchase a new heatsink. When I installed it, the computer wouldn't even begin booting at all.
So, I popped out 2 sticks of ram and VOILA, the computer begins to boot up. As I'm experimenting around, with 3 sticks of ram in, the computer will NOT boot up at all. With 1 stick of ram, it's fine. I'm actually posting from the new computer rig with 1 stick of ram in.
I'm updating the motherboard BIOS right now, so hopefully that will make these RAM slots magically work again. Otherwise, I'm basically out of ideas (again).

i'm like... 99% sure the bios update will fix the ram problem
|
It sounds like one of the sticks of RAM is bad. Try only putting in two, you might have to try it twice if you put the bad stick in on the first time. If there's one stick of bad RAM, the computer won't start up at all.

Assuming you've tried switching around which sticks of RAM you have installed? A bad stick can do some weird things.
|
yeah, i've had a lot of situations where a bios update has fixed my ram problems. especially if its a high amount of ram.

Yeah, very typical problem with ram, especially the lesser known brands. Big ass headache because you wouldn't think that one faulty sticky could cause so many problems. I've also had ram that's been really "twitchy." The computer just wouldn't run stable or consistent, but it would run. Sort of. I only found out it was a stick of ram because I swapped each piece of hardware until the thing ran properly.

This is very possible.
It is also possible that there is a bad ram slot.
To do a quick test, find 1 ram stick that and try it in every slot (it should not matter what slot, though your manual will say different).
If all the slots work its the RAM.
To FOR SURE find the bad ram stick use a program called MemTest and run a test on each stick.
Honestly its always easier to first test the mobo and GPU and CPU by running everything bare min.
Do just the mobo, CPU/Heatsink, 1 stick of ram, GPU, keyboard, and monitor. PLace that on some antistatic bags and boot up. That way you quickly rule out the basic items. I do this for every system I build and it really cuts out a lot of heart ache with mobo and cpu and gpu guessing games.

memtest86
it will test your memory then bring back if any of it has errors. (obviously this isn't a windows application, but a boot process)
just google memtest86. burn to disc. boot from cd.

YES YES YES FIXED FIXED FIXED
There were 2 bent pins on the 1366 cpu socket! Using my girlfriend's mechanical pencil, an emergency flashlight, and a camera lens, pins were unbent!! And now it BOOTS WITH ALL SIX GIGABYTES DETECTED!!!
I'm so happy I can't believe it. Christ almighty I never would have figured that out. I had my electrical engineering friend come over and we ran like a billion tests, then checked the socket and SHAZAAAAM! Bent pins.
That was one of the most exhausting ordeals I've ever experienced. LOL first daily back is gonna be bjuejeuler :>.
