First off, if you're in silver and playing a Plat player, something is going wrong other than the look of the borders. Chances are as a silver player you won't be up against a plat, no problem there. For Diamond & Masters it's a little harder, but I can notice the difference. If you're Diamond and your opponent is Masters you'll see his border is slightly different then remember you're the Diamond player so if there's any difference then the other person should be masters. This will only be a problem in custom games, as I assume that if you're playing ranked 2v2, then the border should change to the relevant league of said team. So if a Plat 1v1 player and a silver 1v1 player were gold together in 2v2, the borders on the load screen would change to Gold for both players for that game.

Edit : If you see one of the 2 borders only (if you can't compare) The trick is to look for the detail in the top border, rather than the colour. Masters has a fairly obvious line going through it whereas diamond is plain.

Also, when I was silver, I met plenty of plats on the ladder as my MMR was getting higher, so it's not impossible at all.

I actually find this addition useful, but if i was in bronze or silver i might feel kind of ashamed to have my (bad) performance show up like a banner on top of my head. Thats why Blizzard introduced groups where all players from different leagues can find practice partners
