When I saw the after game screen, my jaw dropped. I won the game too :D It was ZvZ and I cheesed. Since then, on the unranked ladder I have played a huge range of players going from silver to diamond. Oddly enough I don't think I've had any masters players yet. There was something weird going on at the beginning of the new season, I was Platinum and got promoted to GM but still playing vs Gold players and I am in no way worthy of GM so I just left the league, I assume the last few people in GM are at a Gold/Plat level MMR and just stayed in the league because you cant get booted out unless you are inactive. | ||

First off, if you're in silver and playing a Plat player, something is going wrong other than the look of the borders. Chances are as a silver player you won't be up against a plat, no problem there. For Diamond & Masters it's a little harder, but I can notice the difference. If you're Diamond and your opponent is Masters you'll see his border is slightly different then remember you're the Diamond player so if there's any difference then the other person should be masters. This will only be a problem in custom games, as I assume that if you're playing ranked 2v2, then the border should change to the relevant league of said team. So if a Plat 1v1 player and a silver 1v1 player were gold together in 2v2, the borders on the load screen would change to Gold for both players for that game. | ||

Edit: you would think the lighter portrait outline would match the lighter symbol (diamond symbol is lighter than master symbol and yet the portrait outline for diamond is darker than the portrait outline for masters holy crap edit 2: under further inspection it looks like the diamond portrait outline has a crystalline texture to it, which obviously matches the diamond rank, I do wish the colors were switched though ^^ | ||

If you play 2v2, your current highest 2v2 league would be around your border. Vice versa for 3v3 and 4v4. When you play 1v1 or Arcade games it could be your current 1v1 standing. | ||

One option would be to stick with the elements, add copper back in at the bottom, remove Master and Grandmaster. There are plenty of elements that they could add if that's not enough leagues, that's not the point of this post. Diamond can be thematically the same as elements, while still being different enough for people to recognize that it's special. This leaves us with: Diamond (the new top 200) -> Platinum -> Gold -> Silver -> Bronze -> Copper. Another option would be to drop the elements and re-do the ladder with labels consistent with master and gm. So ... add in 5 skill levels: GM (200) -> Master -> Expert -> Veteran -> Adept -> Amateur -> Novice. Or get rid of all current rankings and introduce a simple grading letters system: S (200) -> A -> B -> C -> D -> E -> F The icons could also the same treatment, we have 3 chevrons, an eagle, a diamond and 2 stars. Why not stick with the military style chevrons, there's plenty more than 3 ranks there. 7 animals maybe? .. You get the point. And like others are saying, make the border colors more distinguishable. We have more colors than blue, orange and silver for 7 leagues. green for masters would match PGA masters jacket. red or purple could work for GM. | ||

I was master all through WoL so would only really vs other masters so I only really care how high they are because i already know they will be a master. Im not sure how often low legue people tend to vs people from other legues | ||
