That's because you're male trying to figure out colors, that's fine.

seems like everyones favorite is the diamond one. im actually having a laugh at the thought of how we all care so much about the colors and design of the borders like a bunch of girls

Just curious, for those who played WoL and are switching to Hots, is your rank the same? I stopped playing WoL a while ago and was Diamond, and I still can beat plat's when I play it. Yet in Hots I play bronze-silver-gold player like non-stop. Maybe its because only the higher level players bothered getting the beta and are playing it. Will be interesting to see where if I end up shooting back up once the game actually comes out.

A little league icon a the corner would make it more noticable..

I feel like they should swap the colors on dia and master. Cause currently the diamond border color is pretty close to master league icon blue
|
I really want a salmon colored border.

One thing I've noticed that is a little frustrating is that if you venture outside of 1v1 and play any 2v2 or anything of the sort - and they may plan on doing this already- but the portrait on the loading screen only reflects a 1v1 league, so in 2v2 it should, in my opinion, reflect your 2v2 league in the loading screen.
|
I think they should still add the icon of the league to the portrait to make it easier.

I don't think it's too difficult to tell there difference between any of them really after you figure it out. Originally it was difficult to tell but after a dozen or so games I find it isn't a problem. I like it in general.

No, I went down two ranks when switching to HoTS. Don't know if it's something to do with the beta ranking system or if I just suck at hots xD (Probably a combination of the two)

Why don't they use the expansion as an excuse to unify the ranking theme? Now its split between 4 elements, a mineral, and 2 skill ranks. Meaning 7 leagues or 6 leagues + a top 200. It's not the end of the world, but it could use some consistency I think.
One option would be to stick with the elements, add copper back in at the bottom, remove Master and Grandmaster. There are plenty of elements that they could add if that's not enough leagues, that's not the point of this post. Diamond can be thematically the same as elements, while still being different enough for people to recognize that it's special. This leaves us with: Diamond (the new top 200) -> Platinum -> Gold -> Silver -> Bronze -> Copper.
Another option would be to drop the elements and re-do the ladder with labels consistent with master and gm. So ... add in 5 skill levels:
GM (200) -> Master -> Expert -> Veteran -> Adept -> Amateur -> Novice.
Or get rid of all current rankings and introduce a simple grading letters system:
S (200) -> A -> B -> C -> D -> E -> F
The icons could also the same treatment, we have 3 chevrons, an eagle, a diamond and 2 stars. Why not stick with the military style chevrons, there's plenty more than 3 ranks there. 7 animals maybe? .. You get the point.
And like others are saying, make the border colors more distinguishable. We have more colors than blue, orange and silver for 7 leagues. green for masters would match PGA masters jacket. red or purple could work for GM.

I like the change, like everyone else, but it would be nice if it also showed how high up in the legue they are, like show the little stripes and star you get on ur rank for being top 50/25/8. I was master all through WoL so would only really vs other masters so I only really care how high they are because i already know they will be a master. Im not sure how often low legue people tend to vs people from other legues

That's so true! Blizzard really is the king of organic growth like these leagues or their interface with buttons added in the weirdest places. It seems there is a need for a strong UX specialist in Irvine.
