Alright guys out there - I need some help with the Frugal Fighter Achievement. My goal is to make a thread with good solutions that other people can refer to when also trying to get this achievement.
Achievement text: Regenerate 500 shield energy on a single unit without taking friendly fire in a League game

Kapoue: Immortal - FFA game with Stalker where opponent was nice enough to help
Shirolol: Immortal - FFA game - just ran it in circles as one of the players was kind enough to keep taking down the shield and letting it regenerate back up again.
Skillz_Man: Archon - 1v1 Game
Shigy: Immortal - Team game where he was cannon rushed
Lucius2: Colossus - 2v2 game - accidental
GenesisX: Void Rays - 4v4 - Lost whole base and just darted in and out with voids.
Feb: Void Ray - 1v1 - Void ray harassment.
ZeromuS: Carriers - 1v1
Alejandrisha: Void Ray - 4v4
LeCastor: Carrier - Co-op game?? - Does this really work.
mlbrandow: Immortal - 1v1 - Ran in and out of range of a tank line.
cypho: Phoenix - 3v3 - Ran it over static defense repeatedly.
If you have successfully done this achievement - please post detailing how you specifically did it (as much detail as possible). I will add it into this solutions spoiler.
I have searched everything on TL for ideas and have done most if not everything that other people have noted would work. So, I will go through the list of things I have tried to do to get this achievement.
1. I built a mother ship in a 4v4. Had it take all shield damage (and a bit of hull damage) and let it fully regenerate. Then I let it take full shield damage again... pulled back and regenerated. No achievement
Note: I also did this with a mothership in an FFA with the same result.
2. Archons: I have tried this multiple times with archons in both 4v4 and FFA. Run them into battle... take 300ish damage and run back. Regen all shields and then repeat. Once again - no achievement.
3. Void rays: I have tried running them into cannons or turrets and pulling back to regenerate. Never have gotten the achievement.
One thing I have noticed is that when the units shields are regenerating/have regenerated. I open my achievements tab in game and still see some small number of regenerated shields (10-50ish). I don't know if what I am doing is not even registering in the game or what.
On a side note, for Roach's Life. I just had a burrowed roach in range of 1 photon cannon. I was able to watch the life regenerate in the achievement tab as the roach was damaged and healed.
Things I haven't fully tried: 1. Immortals - they keep getting killed around the 3rd or 4th time I try to pull them back. 2. Ghosts - have an enemy EPM a unit to remove shields and then regenerate+repeat.
--Finally a 2nd question.... Do co-ops count as league games? I will try this in a co-op if that is the case.

I did mine with an immortal after i won the game. I told him I let him win the game if he hepls me with my acheivements. He hit my immortal, I back it up, let it regen, rinse and repeat 5 times.
Coops dont work as league games anymore for acheivements.
FFA do though, if you want to try to get into one with a friend.

I think pressing F9 (it's one of the F keys at any rate) lets you see your achievement progress during a game, so if you have a chance, you could check that to see if you're making progress.

easiest solution is to do it on co-op using the immortal

I got this achievement using an immortal in an FFA, I just ran it in circles as one of the players was kind enough to keep taking down the shield and letting it regenerate back up again. I think it took 6 or so full shields to get the achievement - I never checked during, just kept going until I got it. But i'm pretty sure it was actually more than 500 over all.

I decided to play 1v1 on ladder, and I just asked if they would help me get achievements, and I just did it with an archon. I don't believe co-op works.

Motherships don't count. Every other unit does (I think), you probably just didn't quite make 500.

Try warp prism + immortal.

I just played really well all game. I never lost an immortal as once the shields were dropping I'd micro them out... I didn't try; I don't play for achievements.

Get an archon and keep it alive.
I have the achievement, and i got it with an archon. Although unwittingly.

I got this achievement on accident when getting hit by a cannon rush in a team game. I don't think we won the game, but I was frustrated with the cannons so I decided that immortals are pretty sweet against buildings and can tank cannon fire.
Long story short I killed 6+ cannons by microing one immortal just for fun. This solution kinda sucks because it's no sure thing, but that's my story.
The damage reduction ability of immortals makes them a good choice, because they simply don't die very easily (durrr it's called an immortal for a reason)

i got it in 2v2 with a collosus, not on purpose though. suddenly it just popped up

This is how I got it:
1. Play 4v4, be protoss
2. Tech to void rays
3. Get void ray speed
4. Get rushed and lose everything but the one void ray
5. Micro that void ray for the whole game until you get the achievement.

i got this achievement on steppes of war with a void ray. basically just get your void ray trapped in the corner behind the enemy base when he's 3raxing, then poke it out every once and a while when its shields recharge. so long as you can hold off the 3 rax with just gateway units and cannons, surviving long enough to get the achievement (you will almost definitely lose the match), there's no real reason for him to get vikings and actually kill your vr. instead he'll more likely station marines or turrets to protect his mineral line which you can beat yourself up against quite easily.
now if only i had a good strategy for that stupid roach achievement.

I rushed carriers in the bronze league a long time ago for a funday monday and I microed it and somehow got the frugal fighter achievement

i got it naturally using void rays in a 4v4. mothership wouldnt be too bad if you can keep it alive long enough

I got the roach one by meeting a friend on ladder. It was GG after a long game, so we just swapped achievements. He built a missile turret and put 2 marines beside it and I just left a burrowed roach there until I got it.

Back and forth with a carrier at the edge of the comp base in coop.
The roach one is more difficult, got it with a burrowed roach that was sniped by helions in coop. Burrowed roach regenerate faster than the damage made by the helion.
I think the most difficult achievement in the combat group is 'meet the spy', neither computer in coop nor players will send you 5 changelings in a match !

Most of these achievements are easily cheesed in 3v3 and 4v4 quick match games.

I found that it was pretty difficult to keep slower or more expensive units alive.
So I chose not to go ground (as those are pretty difficult to escape with) and not to go carrier, void ray, or mothership (as chances are your opponent will overreact to those with powerful anti-air).
Instead I just built a single phoenix and ran it into static defense a bunch of times during the course of a 3v3.
I know a phoenix doesn't have the most shield, but the amount of shield is less important than the shield regeneration... which is the same for everything. As long as you are a little careful you won't lose it - that's about the only problem I could see with this strategy. The phoenix is faster than pretty much anything else out there, which helps.
EDIT: Also I'm pretty sure Co-Op doesn't work. The achievement is for -league- games, right?

Thanks to Kapoue, I was able to finish this achievement in an FFA. We used 1 stalker and 1 immortal and just ran in and out 5 times.
I will update the OP to mirror the strats that have currently been posted.

yeah, the phoenix strat is probably legit too.
roach i know i'm gonna need someone to boost (as well as most of the terran achievements i don't have yet).
the changeling one i got very luckily in about the 2nd game i ever played against a zerg opponent. pretty low leagues as i lost a placement match, and my opponent sent changeling after changeling into my base without attacking, leaving me with what i imagine to be one of the harder achievements.
imo, the protoss achievements are the only ones you can get quasi-legit. for the T and Z achievements i have left, i really want to be z against a t opponent, mind control an scv and get everything.

I got this from having a long-lived hero colossus, but I'd recommend just going into a big team game and microing a stalker or something in front of some static defenses.
