The most important tip, if you don't know that already, is that the powerups change their type if you don't collect them right away. So you can always get the powerup type you want. I got all LV achievements using this combo. Though when first starting the spreader is better then get drones then 2x plasma then just hoard bombs until terratron and cheese him with it.

level 2 is the hardest, basically prioritize not getting cornered by scourge projectiles, keep side missiles until you have one, preferably two drones, then get plasma missiles cos they make bosses and mini bosses much easier and the drones take care of the small fry stuff mostly. just pay close attention to projectiles on screen and only move when you have to, and when you do very deliberately, and spam the space bar which will clear the screen almost singlehandedly if you have both drones. level 3 is pretty easy if you start out with X2 plasma and X2 drones, just reposition occasionally so your killing as much stuff as possible. science vessels are a little scary, i suggest being very careful cos their crossfire occasionally overlaps in a way where you can get caught with nowhere to run. battlecruisers are a joke if you've got X2 plasma - get out of the way when they do the laser barrage thing and otherwise just pummel them while the drones clean up the wraiths. obviously move a bit if the wraith lasers are getting close. terra-tron is the only really hard part of this level. fire like a madman, focus on surviving. the slow yellow dots are easy, just make slight movements to let them go past you. the spinning ones are harder, try to find a space where both waves of lasers will miss you, that takes some trial and error. i dunno what to do about the stupid saw thing. just do your best to avoid it i guess. -- the next round is mostly the same, but stuff is slightly tougher and faster, same routine works etc etc UNTIL the terran level. those laser beams across the screen definitely change things. i got silver on that run through and then burned through like 6 lives trying to just avoid everything that can kill you. what makes it hard is that you cannot constantly clean up all the wraiths when you need to be careful of those beam things. i don't have a strategy for this yet. wasn't expecting it when i got to it cos the other two levels were laid out the same... i'm sure it must revolve around just surviving cos it seems this level gives you way more points per kill. switching to side missiles at that point might've been useful too.

Plasma is crap. I'm a major noob at this game, and I couldn't even get to terra-tron with 2x drone 2x plasma. Killing bosses and mid-bosses fast is nice, but only a luxury. 2x drone 2x split is the way to go. I always got 98-100% in all the levels with that setup. With plasma you will get <98% so it'll take longer for you to get a higher score so you'll have to play more (harder) levels. I got my 500k during the battlecruisers on my run to see terra-tron for the third time. First level is the easiest. Setup your items and then stock up on bombs the next times you come here. Second level, keep an eye on your lost viking. Try to stay in one area, left or right side, and let your drones and split shot do their jobs. When a power up comes, stay directly underneath it and shoot at it. At least for me, it was slightly easier to get to it without having to use a bomb. Third level is where split shot is SUPER helpful. See, the longer the wraiths live, the more they'll shoot. 2x drones 2x split shot clears the screen so fast so you need to dodge less shots fired while you're limited to moving around like a mad man with plasma. Yes you'll be able to kill the battlecruiser super fast, but what's that gonna do when you let a ton of wraiths live and shoot everywhere. I'm not gonna argue which is better for bosses, but the way I look at it, if you can't dodge the bosses attacks, there's no point in killing them faster and you won't reach your goal. Hitting them anywhere you're on the screen is nice too. Use bombs if you think you're gonna die. Use bombs to get another drone powerup if you lost one. If you think you have enough bombs, once in a while you can use a bomb to get another bomb if it's too dangerous. Only get powerups when it's safe. If it isn't safe, let it go by don't fret. I used about 4 bombs each for leviathon and terra-tron and died 3 or 4 times or something in my run through. When I got gold i had 6 lives and 20 bombs. Good luck and cheers.

Plasma's also are very nice taking down stuff such as curruptors, BCs, and phoenixes. The only "scary" trash unit is the scourge, which is completely nullified by simply allowing side drones to kill them all in one spot making dodging not only easy, but often entirely unnecessary. Perhaps folks who found the plasma to be crap aren't following the golden rule: Have two drones at all times! Use bombs to pick them up safely if you have to.

I suck at plane games, and assumed I couldn't do it after abysmally failing 1-2 times. Then 1 shotted it after trying this and finding out about bomb-invulnerability to avoid getting hit. Agreed with vonLego on drones killing scourges. On the first few times, I avoided busting scourges and probably lost a lot of points for that. Then I noticed I was just sitting there and barely having to move because of the angle the splash is at.. As for side missile vs plasma. Personally I found the extra aoe isnt as useful as quickly killing bosses or the stronger units (phoenix, swarm guardian, those circle things) as they tend to be the things that are most likely to kill you. Drones do a good enough job at sweeping the side stuff imo. But it depends on what youre having more trouble with, so I can see missiles working well too.

Thanks a lot for this Opossum. I actually wound up compiling it myself just cause it was quicker than hunting down the msvcr100.dll needed by the exe, and it worked like a charm. With the space bar spam automated it's so much easier to focus on movement and also easier on my hand/keyboard. I mostly went with plasma but occasionally I'd be slow picking up a bomb and wound up accidentally switching to side missles. I honestly don't think it much matters which of those you pick as long as you have the drones and use your bombs well.

Or just load a pre-char save. There should be plenty in your SC2 documents folder. On August 23 2010 07:01 MouseyPounds wrote: Thanks a lot for this Opossum. I thought that exe would work on any windows machine. Then again, I'm still a total coding noob.
