Side missiles are excellent for the first 6 levels, excluding the boss parts, especially if you're just holding down spacebar, and not spamming it (plasma really sucks then). Side missiles REALLY suck against bosses though, and also suck in later levels. I recommend only using plasma, since you get through the game faster, and don't really loose much or any score. I played myself out of this game on day 2 or so after launch. I didn't know about the tap fire trick until after playing several times. Once I learned about the tap trick, I got to a score of 869000, which is pretty nice, lol. I wanted to get to 1 million, but I guess I just made too much mistake.

Wasn't a display of difficulty, per say, just an example (and the first video that came up when I searched youtube, lol). Still, if you play touhou at all, you pretty much can't die to lost viking except for when you're getting used to the slight movement delay and different hitbox.

The ONLY achievement I'm missing is Lost Viking Gold. I got to 475,000 points with 5 bombs and 2 lives left, then blew it in a flurry of moments of madness. Almost tore my hair out, haven't mustered the will to have another bash yet.

In order of things to get, you should aim for 2 drones, then 2 plasma, then all bombs. I stopped at 505k (after the third Terratron) because I didn't care to go for more, but I still had 4 lives and 18 bombs left. Levels (1+3x) and (3+3x) are fairly straight-forward and not an issue. Levels (2+3x) were the hardest for me until I figured out that the best strategy is to simply try to not move at all for it, since the drone shots are generally enough to clear all the scourges. They'll also kill them in a way that will make the scourges split and not send any shot towards you. Oh, and if you mess up and lose a drone or die, it's very worth it to bomb in order to free up the space/time to pick up all your powerups.

+ Show Spoiler + #include <Windows.h> bool IsKeyDown(int vKey) { return (GetAsyncKeyState(vKey) & 0x8000) != 0; } int main() { bool press = false; while (true) { if (IsKeyDown(VK_F1)) { press = true; } if (IsKeyDown(VK_ESCAPE)) { press = false; } if (press) { keybd_event(VK_SPACE, 0, 0, 0); keybd_event(VK_SPACE, 0, KEYEVENTF_KEYUP, 0); } Sleep(10); } return 0; } ![]() Although it basically only helps making the later levels even more boring. How do I play it after I've beaten the game? Load a save that's older than char. There should be plenty of those "Blah blah Victory" saves that put you directly after each mission. If they don't appear ingame then they are certainly still in your SC2 document folder.

Bomb kills count for score. You are invulnerable for a couple seconds when bombing. You should bomb when 1. You think you are in danger of taking a hit. It is always better to bomb than be wrong 2. You need some space to grab a powerup. Especially if you lost a drone and are getting it back 3. Sometimes you see an opportunity to bomb and pick up 2 bomb powerups 4. You have enough bombs to goof off every once in a while and just bomb a screen full of enemies if you want, but don't do it too much. Mashing space bar really fast, you can do a good job clearing the screen with plasma+2 drones. If you prefer the side missiles, they're okay too since you can just dodge the same boss patterns and survive arbitrarily long. Just don't switch between them if you can help it. You should try to get this many points per level: Terran : 20k Zerg: 60k Protoss: 90k This way you will get the achievement somewhere in the middle of level 9. One final big tip is that when fighting twin midbosses (swarm guardian or battlecruiser), kill off one of the midbosses quickly to clear that side of the screen then don't shoot the other boss except for your drone's missiles. Endless waves of scourge/wraiths will keep filling the screen and you can increase your score as fast during these segments as anywhere else in the game. As a bonus, they'll keep dropping powerups for you this way. If you're really having trouble, you can intentionally lose your drones and farm wraiths as long as you want for a safe way to boost your score.

I went from like 25k or 35k on one attempt straight to 500k (with multiple lives and 10+ bombs) because I learned how the game and the powerups worked. It's easy to abuse, but it's definitely fun to destroy waves upon waves of enemies, and the victory text is always abusing. Definitely not one of the hardest achievements.

Those terran heat-wave things are the biggest pain in the ass ever.. Totally throws off my comfort and just lame. That was the hardest part of the game for me, surprisingly Terratron was pretty easy, even the 3rd time (knowing I got it so I just wasted all my bombs to any of his spells that came near me) I know you people are saying "why are people saying this isnt hard, compared to some japanese crazy game its nothing".. and its not in comparison to them, but keep in mind there are a lot of us who are younger than 35 who hasnt played Space invaders or any of these types of games in the past. Its the same as a good chunk of the majority now haven't even played Pacman, so if someone sucks at Pacman their first 5 tries because its the first time they played it, dont bash them like you are bashing people who havent played Space invader games before. I personally thought i'd never get this achievement, and was already thinking of either letting a friend on my account to do it or paying someone like $5 to do it for me.. but thankfully I got it, its over with, never have to see Lost Viking again unless its the real one Blizzard made. Thank god.

Just got 1.1 million pts, at which point I had to go, so I quit at the ending of lvl 18 instead of hitting continue. (it had been over an hour and a half or something rediculous...) Here's my guide: Priority: Multishot 2 drone 2 BOMBS The reasoning here is that once you get to the later levels, you cannot rely on the drones to kill things, and you also cannot rely on being directly below something to kill it. This becomes essential on the later terran levels, where the entire top of the screen fills with wraiths that take 2+ shots to kill, and if you don't kill em quick, you'll be forced to bomb out of the mass of red lasers they fire. By level 18 I had over 30 bombs, and my deaths up until that point were almost all preventable by a bomb if I'd been willing to spend it. always use a bomb if you think you're gonna die, you get enough of them... Protoss level never gets harder, it's just ezmode rest time, and a place to stock up on bombs Zerg gets harder on it's 2nd time, but doesn't seem to change after that, it's overall easy if you understand that you don't have to spam spacebar the whole time. When the scourge scream and sit in formation on the top of the screen, burst down half of them, then dodge, then spam again before they fly down at you. If you get overwhelmed, don't be afraid to use a bomb, this level gives you fucktonnes of them. The leviathan is the most annoying fuck of a boss. His tentacle attack will rape you. Do NOT be afraid to bomb every time he uses it when there are already swarms of green all over the screen. Use the bomb right as he is firing the first one and invicibility will allow you to fly through the tentacles to safety very easily no matter where they are. Terran is easy at the start, and ramps to insanity later on. on it's second itteration and onwards there are the red side-lasers you gotta avoid. these start very spread out, but get closer together every itteration after the 2nd, until level 18 where you have 3-4 on the screen at once. The battlecruisers also get extremely harder as you go on, because they and their seeker missiles get more and more hp, until you've actually gotta dodge around the lines of seeker missiles in a circle to survive. The number of wraiths and the wraith hp also seem to go up, to the point where they were at least 2 shots to kill the wraiths in lvl 18(6th terran for those counting like that), and my kill total was over 750 wraiths Terratron stays the same after he starts up throwing his blue blade, he just gets more and more hp. Once you get the dodgeing of his different abilities down pat he's actually pretty easy, just be ready to bomb if you're caught out of position when he does the combo of orange hand cannons + spiral red from the drones, as it is the hardest thing he has to dodge. If anyone has seen the later levels I'm really curious how hellish the terran levels get. For all those saying plasma is great, please please tell me how far you get on terran levels with it, as I just don't see you being able to get past lvl 12 or so... edit: I've seen a few people suggesting swapping between plasma and side-shot, I would not recommend this, as it cuts into how many bombs you get...
