I felt this every time SC2 presented old characters:
1. Mengsk: WTF happened to his guy? In SC1, he had an AWESOME snakey snide voice as seen here. Now he's some fattie with an uncharacteristic generic voice.
2. Tassadar:: Remember his UNIQUE muffled voice? He sounded like a generic noble protoss again.
3. Zeratul: He sounded far darker, mysterious, and scary. I don't mind his new voice as much.
4. Raynor: I know it's the same actor, but he was down-to-earth, unassuming, and far lively in SC1. "This is Jimmy!" "I should've stayed in bed this morning." His emotions were more realistic too, "First you kill Tassadar, now Fenix. How many noble souls must you kill for your goal?" Now he's too much of a campy cliche emo hero...
I don't expect Blizz to hunt down same voice actors after 12 years, but they're not just different, they're generic and boring.
New voices I DID like:
*I loved seeing Artanis 'grown up' donning awesome Protoss uniform. His voice, while not as young, captured his youthful courage showcased in SC1 well. It doesn't make sense Lore-wise though. Protoss live to be 500-600 years. 4 years is more like a month to them.
*Kerrigan's human voice was hot (as a ghost). Her voice in SC1 was ditzy and annoying. Her infested voice was amazing in SC1. It's alright in now.

I agree with all your criticisms, although I was probably less annoyed by Raynor than you. I do wish he was more hillbilly and less action-hero though. That's kinda what made him so awesome in the first game: he saw things simply and had an enormous sense of right and wrong. He was okay though. Kerrigans ghost voice is hot. So is her ghost suit.

I actually didn't like Kerrigan's voice as much as Glynnis Campbell, I thought the new one sounded like some generic chick from California XD. Kerrigan's old voice was very characteristic. But then again, another factor may be that Kerrigan just got so few lines in this game.
Zeratul was a bit worse, but bearable, and I thought Raynor was still good. Tassadar I was very disappointed with hahaha, and Mengsk I didn't notice too much of a difference, I do dislike his new look though.

....Mengsk is the same voice actor from SC1. The original voice of Zeratul passed away..... I mean what do you want?
To be honest, the quality of the game is improved so much just by having the original voice of Jim Raynor. Seriously, everything else could be different, but he could carry the game by himself. Serious tribute should be paid to Robert Clotworthy, if Raynor's voice was different, the game would have a really unfamiliar feel.

IM actually really tired of people blaming the voice actors, the script in SC2 is frankly shit. The voice actors did a good job but they were working with bad lines.
|
Why are people hating on single player so much? I think the story was great and the actors were awesome...
|
YOur complaint about raynors voice is more a complaint towards the campain as a whole. as for mensk we didnt really get anything from him other than the newscast and those generic villain phrases.
|
Mengsk sounds pretty much identical to me as he did in Starcraft... Raynor sounds fine. The Protoss sound way worse (especially Selendis... I honestly wasn't sure if this character was male or female, turns out she's female? okay..).

voices in sc2 were the sex, idk what your talking about man : ( the script is a bit sketchy... except for + Show Spoiler +TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DAMAGE!
Tychus's voice IS sex

I thought the script was just fine. It was a very moving campaign. The ending was a little "eh" but whatever.
The original voice actor for Zeratul passed away and Glynnis Campell (Kerrigan) was fired. Otherwise everyone else is the same (besides the new characters like Tychus).
The campaign was great. I don't really understand all this disappointment.

What you are hearing is 12 years of advancement in audio technology.
Part of the charm to me in Tassadar/Kerrigan/Raynor's voices was the lo-fi quality of the recordings. Now everything's in hi-def sound. Not much we can do about that except accept them for what they are.
Personally, I didn't hear a difference in Mengsk's voice. Maybe it's just me.

The storyline itself is alright, the actual LINES making up the story line are flat out terrible, without spoiling anything they tried to make every line a killer. Meaning many of them were overused cliches.

Mengks voice is exactly the same as it is in SC1 so I don't know what your problem is here.
Tassadar did indeed have not that great of a voice.
Zeratul was okay.
Raynor I really liked, you can tell the voice has aged a little bit but its still the same voice.
And all the new voices I really liked as well Tychus, Artanis' and Kerrigan all did their jobs well. Heck I even liked General Warfields voice, everyone did a good job just some of the lines were pretty awful lines.

Now he's too much of a campy cliche emo hero... Don't forget that in the beginning he does feel like crap, and I doubt that, that will go away in 25 missions.

It's been many years.. the voice actors do grow up too

at least you don't have to listen to the french version
"bordel, c'est pas trop tot" tralala

Haha, Tychus is my friend's uncle!!! :O He (Neil Kaplan) did Optimus Prime's voice for a Transformers TV series, I thought he voiced pretty well.

Couldn't contain all your whining in a single thread huh?

I think this is a classic nostalgia vs reality problem. I think the voice actors are way better in SC2.
