I wonder if what the game times is the real time you spend *in* a mission not the game time, i.e. it records the time you start it and the time you finish it and takes the difference. (I highlighted *in* because it seems to be okay to go AFK between missions) So if you save and reload for 4 hours real time to get a 10 minute game time, it records that towards the achievement as 4 hours. That would make sense from a programming perspective, if you wanted to simulate playing 8 hours straight in real time. Or if you pause *in a mission* for 8 hours you automatically lose all hope. Here's how to test it (if you don't have the achievement yet): make/get a save right before finishing the final mission and earning the achievement, pause in the mission for 8 hours, finish the mission. Did you get it? If not, you could just reload the save.

From this, you know that it only counts best mission times, and idle time does not count towards the achievement and it can be done through archive replays and that it is even possible with all 29 missions. That being said, I struggled to shave off the last 15 or so minutes because you cannot replay Piercing the Shroud for a better time - doing so merely creates another game file where you would have been had you just beaten the mission in story mode. Here are my best times, which, unless otherwise noted, are speed runs on Normal: Liberation Day - 3:22 The Outlaws - 7:08 Zero Hour - 20:12 (B) The Evacuation - 25:03 Outbreak - 23:17 Devil's Playground - 12:40 Smash and Grab - 9:07 Safe Haven - 13:16 Haven's Fall - 17:48 The Dig - 27:44 Whispers of Doom - 12:56 A Sinister Turn - 8:46 Echoes of the Future - 3:35 In Utter Darkness - 34:59 The Great Train Robbery - 21:14 (B) The Moebius Factor - 10:39 Cutthroat - 11:14 Supernova - 14:47 Welcome to the Jungle - 9:40 Breakout - 12:39 Ghost of a Chance - 9:45 Engine of Destruction - 16:34 Media Blitz - 17:18 Piercing the Shroud - 33:00(B) - Not Replayable (Speed Run on Normal: 9:47) Maw of the Void - 18:19 Gates of Hell - 15:03 Belly of the Beast - 21:28 Shatter the Sky - 14:48 All In - 30:08 (B) Total Time: 7:56:29 Some missions such as All In and Zero Hour I obviously didn't need to replay since they're timed but note that the Great Train Robbery is actually faster on Brutal since it gives you less time between trains. Replays through your mission archive are very useful if you're still over by the end of the campaign because you can, in fact, speed run missions and ignore bonus objectives for a better time. I shaved off a solid 6+ hours by doing so all in the course of a day.

Researches that are very good: Auto Refinary, PF Upgrades that are very good: all upgrades of marines, medics, tanks (must have), orbital command Mercs that are very good: marine, viking, tanks, banshee Other great stuffs like tech reactor, stuffs like that are great but i didnt get them Played all stages on normal, skipping researches if it is time consuming The following time is rounded up to nearest minute Liberation Day - 3 Dont hit the boards, wastage of time. Outlaws - 4 Just rush and kill, no need to train marines Zero Hour - 21 Eat something, this stage is boring Evacuation - 25 Same as above. Grab those zerg DNAs btw Outbreak - 31 i was very lazy, u can probably do a lot better Smash and Grab - 9 Get relics if you can, you can kill those stone zealots when u have around 7 marauders Train - 24 Obviously get the zerg bones, another boring stage Safe Haven - 10 Use your given vikings to kill phoenixs and wrap prisms. Then land on high ground and destrop the nexus. The third nexus may be harder since there is no high ground, break it through by force when u have around 8 vikings, then shoot the mothership from behind. I finished the mothership when it reached the 3rd outpost. Oh and, u should try to stop the first fleet else they might go for your base. The Dig - 29 Boring. Note that spending 10 sec to get a protoss research is not bad. Whispers - 10 Dun kill stuffs just because they are on your way, and i wont waste my time to destroy the hatches. Blink blink blink, done. Sinister Turn - 6 Okay, after building 2 pylons send 2 probes to power up the DT shrine and robotics for research. 2 DT will pop up, get a third one using your gateway. Dodge Maar and rush to the preservers, 1 DT should be killed py photon cannon on the way. Also note that u want to get all prisons down to a few hp before killing any of them since Maar will teleport to the preservers if any prison is broken. You dont have to kill Maar in this stage Echoes - 4 Use your observers and blink around. Dont care about your base and dont waste time punishing the zergs on the way. Moebius factor - 8 1st and 2nd data cores are easy to destroy; For the third one, go southwest from the 2nd core and avoid the brutalisk. Land and kill the 3rd core. You may need to try a few times if you are not familiar with the map. Cutthroat - 9 i would advice u to get PF research so that your base can be empty. Start out by getting out 1 or 2 medics. When the vultures arrive, lay all spider mines in your base and group them with the marines given and medics trained. Now go frenzy at orlan's bases, getting minerals on the way. Be sure to get some/all relics as well. Oh, and dont stop training SCVs. When ur minerals reached 6000, unload mira han's bunker and send all the forces straight to orlan's base, dodging the nuke of coz. Becoz this isnt hard, your force can crush orlan's base easily. Supernova - 15 Go all banshees. After moving to the first protoss base, send around 12 banshees with 3 hel's angels (dun require training time) to kill the phoenix and cannons behind the artifact. You dun even need cloak for this. Oh, grab some easy relics on the way. Maw of the void - 22 You can probably do better, i just BC and DT them. Gates of hell - 14 i go all mm and stopped at 90 army value. Then i destroyed all the zergs along the path to the nydus worm. There should be some pods landing, use your orbital command to mule-rescue them to reach 100 army value, triggering the nydus worms. Hehe, the nydus worms got killed in a few seconds by my mm that reached warfield's landing site long ago. Shaater the Sky - 18 dunno if this is good, but i bc all platforms... All in - ???(no record) 10 tanks on each side, 15 banshee for killing worms (cloak if you get hit by hydralisks). At around 50% many overlords appear, i was lazy and nova-ed them. When QoBlades attack, just hit her with tanks and banshees. Easy stage. I used only 1 nova for the overlords.

Edit: On that note. On October 01 2010 03:37 WellDuh wrote: Someone has a save file for the new patch? Replays through your mission archive are very useful if you're still over by the end of the campaign because you can, in fact, speed run missions and ignore bonus objectives for a better time. I shaved off a solid 6+ hours by doing so all in the course of a day. Except you can't, unless it's been changed since the start of this thread. If you play a mission and complete it in 20 minutes, and then redo it through the archive and complete it in 10 minutes the game counts that as 30 minutes. Getting better times through the archive doesn't work.

I replayed 2 missions on casual for research, then beat the rest and was well under 5 hours. Still no achievement.

I should also note that I collected every single zerg and protoss research item up until the Zeratul missions. By then I had bought and upgraded everything that I wanted (with the exception of the Banshee upgrades and mercs that I would not get until after playing Super Nova). Only upgrade what you need to complete the missions. Since I had way more money than I needed, if you skip some that take you an extra 5 or so minutes to get, don't worry about it. Some of the items I upgraded include: marine, marauder, medic, bunker, command center, tank, banshee, and viking. I believe that the only two mercenaries that I bought that I actually used were viking and banshee (both of which were used on Shatter The Sky and the banshees were used again on All In). Something else that may help is if you get these research items: vehicles heal, slow down zerg, bunkers with guns, instant supply depots, comsat station, and the flame traps. With these alone you should be able to win the final level without using the artifact once. I hope I didn't leave anything out there. Missions 1 Liberation Day 2:34 2 he Outlaws 4:48 3 Zero Hour 20:12 4 Smash And Grab 9:54 5 The Devil's Playground 9:34 6 Welcome To The Jungle 13:34 7 The Great Train Robbery 24:49 8 Cutthroat 12:18 9 The Evacuation 25:2 10 Breakout 15:38 11 Outbreak 23:8 12 Engine Of Destruction 23:4 13 Media Blitz 18:49 14 Haven 14:24 15 The Dig 28:23 16 Piercing The Shroud 13:36 17 The Moebius Factor 11:26 18 Whispers Of Doom 11:15 19 A Sinister Turn 9:20 20 Echos Of The Future 11:25 21 In Utter Darkness 34:52 22 Super Nova 9:7 23 Maw Of The Void 19:1 - As I finished this I noticed an exploit where I bet I could win this in 10 minutes, but it was over and done with and I was way under my time, so I didnt bother. 24 The Gates Of Hell 11:57 25 Shatter The Sky 16:25 26 All In 30:8 Total game time is 7 hours, 5 minutes.

I took longer than needed as I hunted out research points as I didn't purchase upgrades (so I could go back and grab the tech achievements). Plus I'm lazy and not very good. Missions 1 Liberation Day 5:27 2 The Outlaws 10:16 3 Zero Hour 20:08 4 Smash And Grab 13:40 5 The Evacuation 24:58 6 Outbreak 34:05 7 The Great Train Robbery 24:30 8 Cutthroat 14:54 9 Safe Haven 12:51 10 The Dig 34:44 11 Whispers Of Doom 12:45 12 A Sinister Turn 6:23 13 Echos Of The Future 3:36 14 The Moebius Factor 16:37 15 Super Nova 18:29 16 Maw Of The Void 26:40 17 The Gates Of Hell 18:30 18 Shatter The Sky 22:12 19 All In 30:5 Total time = 342 minutes = 5 hours 42 minutes @Mikro - Even if it counted the cut scenes there is plenty of time to get it done.

There is a way of doing what you want to do though and that is to save where you currently are, then play a mission for research then reload from your save so that the research mission you just played doesnt mess up your total time.

After lurking on this thread since last week while playing my campaign (Around 2 week, only play 1-3 hours/day), i think a hypothesis and it turned out to be right. Here's a fact (I've proven/tested it on my account) : Replay mission via archive will be not added into your game time, in fact for this achievement, blizzard will only take your best time (Normal/Hard/Brutal), not limited to the time when you beat it for the first time. I got mine just before i wrote this post, while i DO replayed most of 29 missions. So, i played every mission around 1-4 times (Brutal while figuring out what to do and trying to accomplish all objectives, Hard/Normal for missed achievement, and Normal Speed Run), i always beat the campaign on brutal for the first time, that's why mostly i replay it on normal for speed run. I'm doing all 29 missions and just lazy to do Brutal Speed Run (and afraid if the time won't make it) So, why a lot of people didn't get the achievement? Because people replay the mission after they beat the campaign. Blizzard will pick your best time of all mission you have done when you make a progress on your campaign a.k.a beat "All In" for the first time (That's why some achievements are rewarded as soon as when you accomplish it, like "Utter Darkness" 2nd & 3rd achievement. And some are rewarded at campaign score screen in the end). So, load a save game before "All In", replay all mission via archive, and make sure total mission time below 7h29min (Because All In take around 30min and few second), then beat "All In", should work. (Because i replayed each mission immediately on normal speed run after beat it on brutal, so i'm only guessing about this one, but yeah, it should work) ========= Here's my time and number of how many i played it (for example, 2 times means, 1 Brutal and 1 Normal Speed Run) Liberation Day - 2:23 (2) The Outlaws - 3:38 (3) Zero Hour - 20:08 (3) Brutal time is 20:12, doesn't really matter Smash and Grab - 7:39 (3) The Evacuation - 23:05 (Brutal) (2) Hard time is 23:06, don't know normal time, maybe 23:07 Devil's Playground - 10:05 (2) This can be done in 5-6 mins actually, but i'm just lazy Outbreak - 20:08 (2) Welcome to the Jungle - 9:58 (3) The Dig - 27:29 (3) Safe Haven - 9:13 (3) Haven's Fall - 17:25 (2) The Great Train Robbery - 21:04 (Brutal) (1) Brutal time should be fastest one, i don't bother replay, already got all achievement in one run anyway Cutthroat - 9:09 (2) Whispers of Doom - 8:47 (2) A Sinister Turn - 5:51 (3) Echoes of the Future - 3:34 (3) In Utter Darkness - 40:35 (Brutal) (1) too lazy to replay it on normal for like... 5-6 mins difference, got all the achivement on 1st run tho Breakout - 12:16 (3) Ghost of a Chance - 12:26 (2) Engine of Destruction - 21:21 (3) The Moebius Factor - 10:19 (4) Forgot to do normal achievement twice, that's why i played it 4 times... Media Blitz - 18:00 (3) Can be done in 9-10 mins even on Brutal with spec/ghost, but i haven't spent any of my credits (Saving it for armory achievement) Piercing the Shroud - 13:40 (Brutal) (2) Replayable but it will only record one time (the last one you do) I did it twice, one for achivement and the other for Brutal speed run because i'm doing brutal completionist. I'm afraid if i do normal speed run, it will affect brutal achievement, so i don't really care. Supernova - 7:37 (3) Maw of the Void - 17:04 (3) Gates of Hell - 8:52 (3) Belly of the Beast - 20:46 (2) Shatter the Sky - 13:33 (3) All In - 30:08 (Brutal) (1) i'm happy when i saw my raid night achievement, otherwise i have to waste another 4 hours for normal speed run, because if this doesn't work, load a save game before all in like what i stated before, wouldn't work either ========= So for those whose still trying to get this, good luck!
