Szymon Marciniak is outstanding. I think he's the consensus best ref in the world atm. So yes, there are definitely refs who do get a pretty good name for themselves, tho again, it's very rare I agree. But I would argue that it's a good thing, the refs should be invisible for the most part, we SHOULD be focused on the players, not the ref's decisions. When we discuss a result of a match, if the first thing we start talking about is the refereeing performance, that's really really bad. If we don't mention them at all, it's good.

The only ref who really did get anything like that profile or praise was Pierluigi Collina. Pretty much respected by all, except Everton fans!

And while he was a good ref, a lot of that additional reputation was down to his distinctive look, let’s be real.

there used to be a world class Uzbekistan referee... I miss him

That would be the next step after respect: compensation!
And again you have to do this through all the leagues, even youth leagues.
Why would a up and coming (youth) ref sacrifice his whole Saturday/ Sunday, eating shit for 2 hourse for 100 bucks and a handshake?

PSG, now with added clutch factor? What sorcery is this?!

I dunno what happened Liverpool, they’d started absolutely bossing it and then completely faded away. Just the exertions of an excellent season?

PSG absolutely bossed the first leg, and this tie was pretty ebbing and flowing, so I think overall, deserved.

If it weren’t for the ownership, hell I’d quite like this team, and Kvaradona is one of my favourite active players

IMO Liverpool could have lost the first game too, PSG I find played well enough to earn this.
They probably win the PL but I wonder if because Liverpool is so good or the other teams fumbled too much this season.

Could? They should have, PSG battered them and Liverpool pulled a Real Madrid impression.

I think Liverpool have generally been outstanding. They destroyed the CL group stage, absolutely battered Real and most sides.

I think it helps them that there’s not another outstanding team this PL, but I think they’d still have a good shot if there were. But it’s almost a title by default if a team is as strong as this Liverpool and nobody else

But I would add that I think Liverpool are looking a bit flat lately. They’re not as good as they were earlier the season for sure, but I don’t think we should forget quite how imperious they were for good chunks of this one either

I dont think it's a stretch to say PSG would have won without an Alisson master class performance. Liverpool still the class of the PL this year but you're right that it does seem weaker at the top than recently. the run of juggernaut Liverpool/City teams was pretty insane though

Yeah CL group stage was just a fluke...

Come on: this PSG is prolly the best PSG TEAM (not collection of individuals) of all time. Liverpool had two bad games. Doesnt mean that their achievements are null and void now

I think our legs are starting to give out due to lack of rotation and good rotational options that Slot simply doesn't trust (doesn't trust Endo enough for more game time to rest Gravy, and doesn't trust Elliott enough to give Szobo more rest too). The one rotational option he has really is Jones for Macca, so Macca consistently has good game after good game, which is why we definitely need to see some real transfers come in to bolster our depth and front 3.

Jota is totally past his prime. I have no clue what happened to him this past year, he really hasn't had even one good appearance for us this season. At least Nunez you can argue had a couple good games but mostly also is just not good enough.

PSG 100% deserved to go through though, over both legs they were clearly the superior team and we only fluked the first leg draw. Definitely could've had a couple goals in the 2nd leg but Donnarumma played extremely well and then obviously great pen saves from him too. Welp, onto the league cup final without a RB, probably starting Quansah. Yeesh.

Yea fatigue definitely settling in - PSG played really well though and I can easily see them winning the whole thing. And while I would have liked another deep CL run, I am not totally upset - gives us more time to rest and finish the league strong. Much more Important title this season.

Harsh, especially considering how basically any bullshit runup is fine

Oblak was unbelievably close to saving the winning penalty, Llorente’s penultimate one, (think was him, chaotic bar watch filled with loud Madridians from both sides)was a few inches from being a clutch, unsaveable one.

Tight margins, but Athletico consistently dig their own grave. They got into a spot in the first leg where they were battering Real, and then they decided to settle for a 1-2 loss. Hell I think I commented on it in here. They do this all the fucking time in big CL games.

It’s one thing battling and settling if Real are battering you, ok we’ll survive this leg and pull it back in the second. They had the initiative, CHOSE to cede it and got punished

WTF is that England squad?
Henderson?
Are you having a laugh?

Just a shame for Tuchel that Rooney wasn't answering his phone I guess.

Haha he wants some leaders as the squads recently lacked it, as long as he isn't starting i dont mind it, but yeah, our CM options pretty lacklustre after rice and bellingham i guess. Connor might be a bit unlucky though.

It’s a bit odd I gotta say. I heard Adam Wharton wasn’t considered because Glasner requested that of Tommy Tuchs, he’s only just getting back to full fitness.

I wonder if there’s a few others in that kinda boat.

If I was someone like Conor Gallagher who’s done well without being a world-beater at Athletico, having taken the still relatively rare step of moving abroad, I’d feel a bit miffed. What does Morgan Gibbs-White have to do to get a cap?

On the flip side, look you can’t pick 10 number 10s.

I’m a bit mystified, equally I imagine there is some rationale at play here too. I just haven’t heard what that is yet!

Have you seen the u21 squad?
I reckon they'd give the first 11 a proper game.

Defenders: Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Dennis Cirkin (Sunderland), Charlie Cresswell (FC Toulouse), CJ Egan-Riley (Burnley), Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton), Rico Lewis (Manchester City)

Midfielders: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland), Jamie Gittens (Borussia Dortmund), Archie Gray (Tottenham Hotspur), Hayden Hackney (Middlesbrough), Jack Hinshelwood (Brighton and Hove Albion), Alex Scott (AFC Bournemouth), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)

Forwards: Liam Delap (Ipswich Town), Harvey Elliott (Liverpool), Omari Hutchinson (Ipswich Town), Sam Iling-Junior (Middlesbrough, on loan from Aston Villa), James McAtee (Manchester City), Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal), Jaden Philogene (Ipswich Town), Jay Stansfield (Birmingham City)
