Not sure what to make of this performance so far, first 25 minutes were great but then it was more like one level below what they are capable of. Their defence in particular wasnt tested too much, yet it seemed like they're definitely capable of one or several howlers further down the tournament.

I thought our energy immediately stepped up at that point. Serbia look like a decent team, but once again England just stop at 1-0 like its game over.

How good was he at that age? I have only heard stories but he was unplayable? I didnt have much interest in football before 2006 :D

Bellingham is a fully formed world class player at 20. To put it in context 19 year old Rooney scored 11 goals in the Premier League and didn't win any trophies playing for Man U under Ferguson. Pretty amazing for a 19 year old, but not on Bellingham's level.

Rooney didn't have the maturity. Bellingham does. That's the difference. Yesterday couldn't really have gone better for England in terms of results. Winning your first game and seeing a draw in the other group game is always ideal.

Pretty amazing for a 19 year old, but not on Bellingham's level. rooney at the euro 2004 wasnt even playing for united yet. i have to correct myself also, because rooney was actually 18 at euro 2004 (turned 19 a few months after the tournament). bellingham is very very good now, but 18 yr old rooney was carrying the entire england team until his injury. @drone saying rooneys performance at euro 2004 was down to his physique being beyond his years isnt giving enough credit to rooney. its not like he was playing a u18 tournament; he was playing against fully developed men well beyond his years in physical development and match experience. his performances didnt come down to some physical advantage rooney had over everyone else.

Tbh maybe Pogba at his best was something kinda along the same line when only slightly older. Peak Pogba was pretty amazing though.
