Grealish is no better than Mount or Foden really. Mount needs to work on his corners unless someone told him to aim for Foden. Sterling's the kind of player that managers love. Makes alot of runs and looks good in the stats analysis. He's good when he's in form I guess. The less said about Kane the better. What a complete waste of a shirt that guy is when he plays for England.
Altogether that was absolute shite.

Grealish played 20 minutes, beat players, got fouled 6 times and got a player a yellow. Sterling in 90 minutes did 2 good crosses through players legs and that was it. He stole the ball off a defender to make one of said crosses too, that is it in 90 minutes.
Sterling is just in terrible form and outside of having a good 60 minutes vs Croatia has done nothing in the last 6 months! Grealish was by far the best player in our two warm up games prior to this tournament as well.

That was just flat all round from England, I’m not sure the personnel matters all that much. If the whole team is pretty much to a man not firing it can be Grealish/Foden/Sancho or whoever and it ultimately doesn’t matter that much. Short of an 86 Maradona and 1 player will struggle to turn that tide of well, whatever so consistently causes England to do this in tournaments.
Contrast with Scotland who were clearly more on it today and with everyone around the place playing close to what they can produce a player like Billy Gilmour can come in and make a difference.

I suppose England's chances are somewhat improved because other powerhouses like Germany, Spain and Italy are still in some transition phase (but all things equal, I would still place my bets on proven winners). Also, based on the brackets, England is bound to meet Group F teams in RO16 or QF (depending whether they finish 1st or 2nd in the group). So yes, a penalty shoutout loss to the Germans is on the cards... Germany got spanked what 6-0 by Spain not too long ago, and it’s not quite the vintage Spain we’ve seen in previous tournaments either. England have one of the outright best squads here, they’re stacked down the flanks but yeah centre back is a worry. France are the only real ‘wow’ in terms of squad and even then I don’t think they’re quite as good as they should be, I’d still have them as favourites but with that talent they should be winning tournaments back to back like Spain did. Everyone else’s squad has some kind of hole in it. A few years ago I’d have said Belgium were pretty well covered all across the shop but Alderwireld and Vertongen went off a relative cliff from their form a few years ago. Italy are interesting in that they have a top coach (by international standards) and have been going a bit under the radar with the run they’re on. Not the best squad out there but Mancini might be able to squeeze more out of them, like Conte managed to do with a really limited squad by Italian standards. All in all should hopefully be great, I think the lack of a real, real outstanding side bar France maybe should make it compelling, my only real worry is all the players are just wrecked from this Covid season
May be to soon to judge England, but the two games already highlight something that I really don't get - that England has so much talent in this squad.
We've seen more talent from the likes of Denmark, Ukraine, Czech Republic. Talent is when KDB gets on as sub and almost single-handedly nicks a win for a below-par Belgium. Talent is scoring an audacious chip from the half-way line.
Where's the 'talent' from England? I really don't see their players having more of this 'talent' than 5-10 other teams in the tournament so far. Favourites, huh...

There’s not really a stage where these folks can be judged that they haven’t performed in, that’s the confounding part. Perhaps historically the English may have had inflated reputations based on a league that wasn’t as good and diverse as now, never mind English players performing well in Europe too.
That said I think outside of maybe Grealish or Sancho England don’t have a player who can grab a game and unlock things like a de Bruyne or a Hazard can, but does have a lot of good technical players who, if the system and team is working will do things. A Mount or even a Foden are bloody excellent but I think of them as players that scale with quality around them, like a great musician in an orchestra, whereas Grealish you could see as the solo guitar virtuoso doing his own thing.
The last time an English attacking player really performed at an international tournament to close to their potential is an 18 year old Rooney at Euro 2004, quite a long time ago now!
Whatever it is, and I’m leaning towards the coach via my previous observations on what Italy have done with a top (not Klopp/Guardiola tier, but still rather good) coach who really wanted the gig and has been building a team cohesively, I don’t think it’s any lack of talent particularly.
I mean Patrick Shick hasn’t really delivered on his for years regularly but hey he’s having a fantastic tournament thus far.

I would rather try to balance Starcraft than coach this team. THe most ungrateful job in the world. For some reason every fan sees the English team as the bestest everest no matter how good other teams are.
I don't know what do you mean by "Shick hasn't delivered" 24 national starts 10 goals in under 5 years(his first start was pre-EURO 2016) =)

So England wins their opening for the first time ever. They have 4 points after 2 games. Let's face it: This is a historic peak performance for them.
And somehow the most hated player on the pitch is the only player who managed to score a goal in this.
Maybe people should finally start to compare Englands performance to the historic reality, and not to the tournament after tournament overblown expectations... They are supposedly expected to reach Semifinal+ every tournament... They supposedly have some 18-22yo goalie waiting, who is the next big thing. Any player <22yo, who ever scored in PL is certainly the next GOAT.
And every tournament it is just the manager's fault.

The problem is that the premier league is tje best football leage in the world because the clubs are rich. The English people now think that players like foden or sterling are world class because they had the luck being born in the British isles and thats where their expectations come from.
Someone like foden would be a good player in a club like Leverkusen in Germany but never bayern material. Remember barcas golden era where every new young player who played a dozen games in a season looked like the next iniesta/xavi/dani alves - they all disappeared too once barcas monster first team got older and less unbeatable.

yeah englands best ever team on paper is still the guys who played 20 years ago. and if were talking about generational talents, the truth is the last true generational talent from england is still probably wayne rooney and even he couldnt carry england in an international tournament. except the euros when he was a teenager and ended up getting injured. if he didnt get injured that probably would have been englands best chance to win

Hey thats mean xD
The keeper one is wrong, but i guess the rest is probably right.

This could turn out to be the first heated game of the tournament from it is starting. Then again, my predictions for the tournament didnt quite work out so far.

Surely France with all their depth have someone better on a wing than Ousmane Dembele. This guy's main talent seems to be losing the ball

Hungary surprising everyone, lol.
I still can't believe that Barça wasted all their money in Coutinho and Dembelé and it is broke now.

After 2002 and 2010 I'm ready for everything. Fair result even if the Hungarians must feel like idiots taking a goal on a counter attack. It really looked like our average game against Luxembourg or Andorre during qualifiers.
