I thought disband could easily happen in a few weeks as the resistance starts forming something more concrete and substantial, but that was never going to happen in a handful of days. I think the backlash was a lot harsher than expected for some of them tbh, particularly for the reluctant joiners, and this required every team to join in to succeed.

Berlusconi wanted this 25 years ago, and Wenger predicted it happening more than a decade ago - without supporting it. Pushing for and implementing a 50+1 model is prolly the only way to sorta-permanently stop the plans. I don't see how a 50+1 model would solve this. Barca and Real Madrid are fan owned and they would've joined if it weren't for the backlash. I'm pretty sure if it was a success a club like Bayern would've joined in one or two years when it would've been properly established.

They're trying to prevent the coming changes from being substantial by appearing to already handle the situation themselves.

Same thing with the whole wider ESL, next time this surfaces the big clubs will be ready to drop out of everything else. As long as football clubs are global entertainment businesses this concept isn't going away.

As long as football clubs are global entertainment businesses this concept isn't going away. Its not for nothing that most of the founding members of the SL are also some of the biggest indebted clubs in the world. This gamble was entirely about securing guaranteed income, that is why they couldn't be relegated and why the money was mostly fixed and not weighted towards winning. Missing out on the Champion's league because of a bad season is a massive financial disaster. But instead of pushing for financial reforms that curb the excessive money spend on players they tried to secure themselves more guaranteed money. And they clearly underestimated how massive and most of all united the resistance against this SL was.

Hmm, possibly. I have to say, if I ever went against multiple rich & powerful organizations and vast majority of biggest football fanbases in Europe simultaneously, I'd be prepared for a war. Maybe the players' reaction surprised them or something.
