Not to mention they go full on sprint after running 9600 meters. If i join them at their last 400m i'd still lose. It's really amazing how much fitter Olympic athletes are compared to the average person. If you can run 10km in 50mins to 1 hr it's considered decent but they do it in half the time wtf. 60 mins is a pretty slow 10k.... For a guy in his 20's I'd put 'decent' at somewhere in mid 40s; and good at breaking 40. I've never seen anyone run consistently, have a reasonable BMI (sub 25), and not be able to break 50. A few struggle to break 45 is they take things somewhat serious. Many struggle to break 40, even with consistent 60km-100km a week training with quality workouts. Running at that level is definitely an insane combination though. You have to realize, while distance runners sure as hell aren't Bolt...they are still crazy fast. If you can't run a 400m (one lap) in 48-54 seconds forget trying to be an elite distance runner...you're just too slow. Their is no way you can ever be controlled running low 60 seconds laps if 58 seconds is all out for you. One big advantage though is their weight. I'll bet the average fit dude at your local 5k/10k has a BMI of 22-25 and a BF% of maybe 12%-18%, so for a guy who is 175cm probably weighs 70-75kg. Typically elite runners at that height are 55-60 kg and a BF of 4%-7%. 15kg is worth a TON. Anywhere between 6-10 minutes over a 10,000m race. I said it before, but I'll say it again. It's sorta impressive to hear how fast these guys run. It's another to experience. Go out to the track and try to run half a lap as fast as you can. 30s is elite 5k pace. 32s is elite 10k pace. Trying that will really open your eyes up to what those guys can do in way just hearing about it can't. A 10k in 45 min is decent for someone who train, but for the average person between 50 and 60 min mean you are relatively healthy and is a respectable time. But ya these athletes are crazy.
I'd agree.
I will say all bets are kinda off if you don't do any aerobic specific training. Some people can literally walk off the couch and run under 45, others can be crazy fit with serious lifting and calisthenics routines, generally active, etc. and struggle with sub 50 mins.

Can Bolt hold it together one last time...he almost didn't last year, but somehow in champion fashion pulled that win out of his ass. Money's on Bolt, but it's certainly going to be a tense 9.xx seconds
Bolt started slow and still coasted through with minimum effort, looking around and decelerating before the line. My extremely amateur opinion is that he will be well clear of Gatlin.

So one of the hottest topics in Germany atm is Harting's behavior during the ceremony for winning Olympic gold. I'm here going like "If you have time to get upset about shit like this your life has to be going pretty well."

I just made my calculations and outside of exceptional results in Sailing and Boxing, it's very possible France could end up with less than 30 medals.

France is getting quite a few medals in sailing dw.

Meanwhile the group stage in badminton is coming to an end. Viktor Axelsen looks super strong and if he continues to play like that a semi-final vs Chen Long is very likely to happen.

Brazilian committee said they didn't know whether there was a gun or not. Then they said nothing had happened. American committee said Lochte was fine, just scared. Then they said nothing happened.
What a clusterfuck.

Obviously it's the Japanese athletes who have to fuck up...

Aren't you from Austria, sharkie?
