Also, I hadn't looked before now but Denver has to have one of the easiest schedules in the league this year. Yay for playing the AFC and NFC South, the worst divisions in football.

Pretty interesting read on BB. As a Pats fan I can see exactly where Rich Cimini contributed (the "gate" things are always overstated or stemming from butthurt), but the former coaches and players quotes give you a different view of the man.

"To be great on the field, you have to be emotional. To be great upstairs in the front office, you have to be robotic. The way he can separate in his mind the deep, personal relationships he has to have with his players downstairs in the locker room, on the field and in games, versus the business reality of looking at the same exact players from a strictly financial standpoint, as commodities, when he switches hats upstairs in the front office -- that's not just incredibly hard, that's almost impossible."

I have no idea why they thought it would be a good idea to so badly tarnish the on field product just to "clean up" players' conduct in ways that fans rarely notice. flagging Brown for dancing is dumb, as is the war against TD celebrations, but shit like flagging Cam for throwing a ball at a player, or hitting OBJ with flags every time he picks a fight after a play is totally fine. it's amazing how easy it is to rattle OBJ

With that hes able to play with 5 pass defenders instead of 4. This is a good article on it but I haven't checked out the guy writing it. Being able to throw out a nickle and still get pressure consistently is always going to cause problems.

And some unintended effects aside, they do need to throw out players who commit two penalties (forgot which one, excessive hit?) in the same game. i read someplace that 2 TD celebrations in 1 game leads to an ejection because that's 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

If you are a defender this is really precarious because if you get a taunting you basically cannot hit a qb or wr without risking ejection.

Multiple Fouls. In addition to any penalty referenced elsewhere in the Official Playing Rules, a player will be automatically disqualified in the event that player is penalized twice in the same game for committing one of the unsportsmanlike conduct fouls listed below, or a combination of the fouls listed below: 1. Throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent, even though no contact is made. 2. Using abusive, threatening, or insulting language or gestures to opponents, teammates, officials, or representatives of the League. 3. Using baiting or taunting acts or words that engender ill will between teams. The player will be automatically disqualified regardless of whether the penalty is accepted or declined by the opponent. The fouls do not have to be judged by the official to be flagrant for the automatic disqualification to occur, and any foul that occurs during the pregame warm-up period will carry over into the game. Nothing in this section supersedes the Game Official's discretion to judge a foul to be flagrant and disqualify the player based on one occurrence. The addition of a new Section 4 will cause the current Section 4 to become Section 5. source
