i mean look at the amount of plays the falcon's d had to play, they had to be gassed in the 4th. overall they played 93 snaps, which is 1.5x what a d plays in an average game.

Julio had double coverage and the Pats switched Rowe on him for some extra size which is why he didn't get targeted more. There really isn't an excuse for not running the ball if you are Shanahan/Quinn. "It's who we are" isn't acceptable and completely undoes any coaching accolades the really good game plan they had in place, which had Brady and BB trying to figure both sides of the ball out for way too long.

The defense for Atl staying in man, single safety and not adjusting is honestly worse than the offensive play calling because you have a defensive head coach.

The Atl D didn't really go soft either, they got tired and the Pats finally realized the refs were letting everyone play so they started embracing the pushoffs and hand fighting. If you rewatch Hogan in particular, almost all his catches he gets a small push on the defenders shoulder to reorient them and make space. Getting Blount out of the game who rediscovered his happy feet was also a big deal.

Ryan cared about him being doubled. He had a couple balls almost picked earlier in the game (the one to the TE stands out) and those throws to Julio aren't easy to place. Great as Julio's catch was, that's a reeeally good throw to get over Rowe working against the sideline with a safety closing in from the top. I'm sure Ryan could have forced a few more like that but he also risked a pick and for most the game he had plenty of guys open not named Julio. The Pats also started getting pressure pretty consistently so Julio has less time to get open and Ryan has less time to work through reads/let routes develop.

Why he didn't audible to runs I dunno. Starting to think SF just got themselves a Josh McDaniels circa Denver.

Following up on the Dion Lewis injury. Turns out his hamstring was injured prior to the final play and he (re)-aggravated it. NE did a nice job hiding this injury. of the many dozens of prognostications none included the scenario that he aggravated an existing problem.
