Cleveland is just getting stuff done with a Lebron offence and really committed D.
Delly was amazing. Funny he dived onto the floor again and is not dirty this time because no one is injured. Do we think Delly's "dirty" half of his defense is why Steph's feet never seemed settled tonight? Or was that just Steph mindgaming himself? I think it was just the Cavs bodying him up at any chance they could get. Shumpert and Delly chest bumped him at least half a dozen times on offense.
Lebron's complaining really only gets out of hand when it takes him out of live plays. Maybe he's top 5, but I think it's a combination of extremely high usage + the Shaq problem, where illegal contact isn't as obvious against him because he is so strong.
Like Green's block that hit Lebron across the face - if that happened to CP3 or Curry they would've hit the deck and I guarantee the refs make it a flagrant. Not that it should've been a flagrant, but a hard collision like that usually goes for the little guy, especially if they're a superstar. Lebron landed fine and just had a face injury, but against the smaller guys it would've looked like a bodycheck.

Also, sure it's been ugly for the Warriors shooting wise, but it was ugly for the Cavs too. 32% and 39%. Sheesh.

I mostly agree with all this, but it also points to a problem with the refs. Not about inconsistency or outright badness, but how choosing what types of fouls to call you are inherently favoring one team over another. If you are going to let Curry get bumped off/on the ball you have to let Lebron's arms get swatted when he drives, if you are going to let Green hold on tips you have to let Thompson go over the back on rebounds, etc.

if the NBA had fans that were like the "hardcore SC2 eSports crowd" we'd have people calling for the firing of Adam Silver and the entire broadcast team after last night's game.
the game would've been declared boring and obvious by those who "truly understand the game of basketball".
there'd be screaming for the key to be changed to a trapezoid.. the removal of the 3 point line...and every other rule change you can think of..

Ahh yeah the usage+massive person effect makes a lot of sense haha, thanks guys. Still gonna shut my trap around the boss though ;;

I mean, it's a combination of both. Game 2 is obviously an off night, he had a decent amount of uncontested shots that obviously aren't 'the Cavs defense' making him miss, and he hits contested shots at a good rate(best in the league?) usually. That said I do believe the defense is effecting him, but nights like 5-23 are pretty much never on the defense entirely.

If Curry "struggles" again in game 3, I'll be ready to call it a defensive trend rather than another off night.

Or a choke job.

I think this game will be big because the Cavs won't have a 2 day rest.

I don't understand NBA basketball. A guy takes 10 steps, then gets hit on the arm and the commentators are yelling that it is a foul. I mean how on earth could you defend a guy who gets to change pivot foot three times under the basket without fouling? Imo NBA rules kill the game.

Seems like it, but its fair to say that a lot of defensive fouls are called immediately following an offensive foul/violation. Like a lot of blocking fouls follow illegal screens and a lot of holds follow illegal screens, travels, and charges that go uncalled.

I mean, it works that way in football too. Turns out the rules are slanted towards the offense, or in cases where that isn't outright true the enforcement of them definitely is. That's about as far along the 'pro sports is rigged' discussion as I'm willing to cede: refs are definitely encouraged/shown 'correct' calls that influence them to allow the offense to be the focal point of the game.

For sure. But its also not all offense vs. all defense, like how we discussed above with bumping/holding offensive players off the ball.
Its more rigged towards refs making the most visibly impactful calls.

Anyway just curious lol. Or is it just one of those things where the answer for any given player is more or less dependent on whether you like him?
Lebron is probably the superstar given the least amount of calls that he should get. I've legitimately never seen a player since Jordan and Shaq get hard fouled and non-called as much as Lebron does. Dudes straight up mug him and rake his arms anytime he goes to the basket every night and refs will swallow their whistles on it a lot. People are just getting up in arms about it this game because finals blah blah.
Your boss is probably kind of dumb about it. Lebron, about 3-4 years ago, was a pretty shameless flopper but toned it down pretty quickly. He will exaggerate contact sometimes when he gets hit but no more than anyone else with his usage and his style of play. As others have said, it's just that everyone will see and overanalyze everything he does and so it seems like the volume of flopping/complaining is higher. Players complain to refs non stop all the time, even scrubs. It's just the camera never looks at them when they complain because why would they? If Lebron is complaining then you'll get about 15 zoom ins of it and a slow mo recap of him clapping afterwards.
Your boss probably doesn't like him because he's popular and did a couple of stupid things that got exacerbated by his status as an all time great player. Tell me his favorite player and I could drudge up dozens of reasons to call him a hypocrite over it (and giggle while I'm at it if it's Kobe, which I'm like 80% sure it is).
