Spain's soccer federation says it will halt all professional games "indefinitely" starting May 16, to protest a new law regulating the sale of television game rights. But Spain's professional soccer league said today it had begun legal proceedings to prevent the games from being canceled. At issue is a new law approved last week by the Spanish government, designed to break the monopoly of Spain's top two teams, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The law would allow poorer, less winning teams to share TV airtime and revenue more equitably. Teams will no longer be allowed to negotiate their own TV deals. Instead, rights will be auctioned through collective bargaining, in a system similar to that of the world's most-watched soccer league, England's Premier League. Source

Maybe briefly but that was never a real concern. It was pretty pathetic though.

edit: The BBC article is less than useful at explaining the situation. But it seems it's not the clubs causing the problems.

Ending the league before the most important matches will be a disaster.

(in the other thread obviously ; ) ) Sorry I've been busy moving to Korea. We had a pretty boring end to the season to be honest. Finished about 10 points shy of the play offs in 10th. But this season started with us in the relegation places after 10 games or something and a lot of idiots calling for the manager to go. I'm glad Tisdale stayed and sorted the side out. We have a lot of player movement because as soon as some one plays well for us he's sold to a better team with more money TT. Anyway I'm sure you weren't really interested in how Exeter where doing. Maybe I should start suporting Jeju United. They are my local team now. The stadiums right next to the bus depot and my local supermarket. I'll try and get to a game and take some pictures before I go back to the UK.

Obviously I did not follow your team because I feel close to them but I really like hearing the stories when people, often it was you with your team, feel joy because their club had a good run or reached a safe place etc. Between alien-overlord Messi and his (super impressive) statistics that's where the emotions which we all love shine through. What were your expectations before the season? I reckon you're happy with the coach as he did make the best out of a bad situation?

What were your expectations before the season? I reckon you're happy with the coach as he did make the best out of a bad situation? Pretty happy to be honest. It looked bad after 10 games or so as I said but I never really thought we'd go down or anything. I said before that I feel quite disconected from Exeter since there's physically no way for me to watch them play anymore and I don't know the players. Top of League 2 (4th tier) or near the bottom of League 1 is about where we belong to be honest in terms of attendance and income. I'm sure we will get a good squad of players together and venture up into League 1 again fairly soon (there's 4 clubs that relegated-promoted between League's 1 and 2 which helps with the movement between the divisions.) It's hard really to know what's going to happen going into each season because we do have a relatively high turn over of players. Our youth system produces players and they almost always moving on eventually if they are any good. But I guess we can be proud of producing players to some extent. Dean Moxey was playing in the Premier League last year but I think he moved onto Bolton or somewhere. On May 08 2015 17:55 Pandemona wrote:Problem is K-League is so fucking corrupt TT Yeah there's definatelly issues. The Chaebol's all own a football team and pump money into them making it harder for any fan owned or private clubs to compete at all. The introduction of relegation and promotion between the K-League Classic (top tier) and Challenge bellow should go a long way towards making the season more interesting for the fans and the level of competion not at the top more competitive as well as making coruption slightly less easy. The main problem now in my eyes is there just aren't enough teams. England and South Korea are pretty similar in terms of size and population but there's only 12+11 clubs in the Korean professional system and 2 of those are the Police and Military. teams. It's traditionally been really hard to start a team because the level of football is artificially inflated by the Chaebol's money. However the second tier is starting to fill up with some smaller clubs owned by interests out side the Chaebol elite and creating an environment for low level football to be able to grow. As long as the second tier does continue to grow and fans continue to go to the smaller clubs football in Korea has a slightly better future than one would have predicted a few years ago. Jeju United is a bit weird to be honest. You might look at Jeju on Wikipedia and see that Jeju City has a population of 400,000 or so and think that's a reasonable place to have a football team. But for some completely unknown to me reason the stadium is actually in Seogwipo on the other side of the Islands. So Jeju United is actually a small team from a small 100,000 people city and Jeju City itself doesn't have a football team at all. But as I said Korean football is dominatted by Chaebol's (giant super companies that own everything) and the one that own Jeju is SK Group who have a lot of money. So despite bascially been a tiny team with home attendances similar to Exeter City (despite a shiny World cup stadium (what do you expect when you build the stadium on the oppersite side of the islands to where everyone lives)). They are pretty big player in korean football and currently second in the top tier. It's madness to be honest. Also I live on the wrong side of the Islands to. So it's pretty good for me I guess.
