ROFL....nice one.
In Portugal is quite different...there is only football, most of the time about one single disgusting club (although the 3 big clubs together get 90% of the coverage) and ass licking Ronaldo (also disgusting way of wasting sports time on tv).
Usually when one of our athletes in other sport does something great they get a few minutes on tv and the general public's interest goes up a bit (only to get down right after that as soon as the weekend hits and another football round is played)...examples of this are track and field achievements, Rui Costa's world champion tittle in cycling and our hockey team (that is the top team in the world in the sport or at least fighting with Spain for that tittle) but there are several others.
Despite lack of funds and general public interest our other sports produce good or even great results, yet they are very limited in exposure. The players who just won the Montreaux tournament could probably go on about they're everyday life that only the hockey die hard fans would recognize them on the street.
PS: How is the hype in Norway for Kristoff? I'm scared for him because he seems on that "almost too good to be true" category this year

At least in the southern parts of Germany people love Biathlon (but not cross-country skiing). In winter it's on German TV a lot, it's probably the most broadcast winter sport. Almost any winter sport is broadcasted in german TV alot, but Biathlon and ski jumping have the highest priority cause we´re fairly good at it (we´re nearly unbeatable in luge lol) As for famous non-football athletes, Boris Becker stands out for his immense success in tennis as well as Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel (both F1). Sven Hannawald and Martin Schmitt (ski jumping) were quite popular during their active careers, too.

In Spain, well, you know football is absurdly popular and if you go to a random bar people usually speak about football.
I would say that the second most popular sport in tv news and covarage is Tennis (althought football is a lot more popular). Rafa Nadal is consided the best spanish athlete of the history. Masculine and femenine tennis is broadcasted in public tv quite often. Spain is one of the countries with more Tennis clubs and is practiced in most of towns and villages.
Motorcycle is historically popular in Spain (Spain is a powerhouse and now Marc Marquez is the hype). There are 4 spanish circuits in the world motorcycle Grand Prix and lot of people go to watch it live (Specially to Jerez). Formula 1 used to be less popular, but it became very popular when Fernando Alonso won the two worldcups in a row and surpassed Motorcycle then in popularity. Today it has a decent audience.
About Basketball... It has become more popular after Pau Gasol went to NBA, and the other spanish later (Marc Gasol, Rudy Fernandez, Calderon, etc.) and now NBA is more popular than before. The national ACB, is not very popular, except maybe basketball "el clásico".
Fútbol Sala (Futsal) used to be the second spanish sport in audience and coverage in the 80s/90s. I remember to go as a kid to a lot of matches and It had big live audiences. Today is less popular and not very commented in the media, but It is still the best european futsal league and one of the bests of the world and it has a lot of active players. Bicycle (Tour of France, Vuelta a España) used to be popular in the 90s, now it is ignored.
Then sometimes there are a minihype about another sport when someone win a important title like Swimming, Waterpolo or femenine handball. But well, some months later this sports are ignored again.

current hype for Kristoff is huge, more people watched his tour de flanders victory than the kickoff match for the Norwegian football league. (which was on the same day.) And a lot of people watch tour de france, even if no Norwegians are high up there.
It's kind of like though, in every sport except football and winter sports, Norwegian interest is defined by Norwegian success. Football everyone watches all the time, and in winter sports there's always some success.

Netherlands had football as nr 1 sport by far.
Its: football ---------------------------------------------------------> hockey/ ice skating/cycling/swimming. The last 4 are pretty even I'd guess depending on the season. Other sports like tennis are pretty popular as well but we don't really have good pro's.
F1 is getting more attention now as well with Verstappen.

Mönchengladbach is making me so happy. How they turned the club around during the last 5 years is incredible.
If only Leverkusen would lose sometime, 3rd place would be so important.

Everyone turn on Palace game to witness the beauty that is Alan Pardew magic.

If only Leverkusen would lose sometime, 3rd place would be so important. I love watching Gladbach. I hated it today but over the last years the development is fantastic. I hope van Gaal still wants Hummels and Gündogan. Their performances don't warrant any entitlement. I was extremely happy when Hummels was announced captain but he didn't show anything in that position.
And I'm extremely skeptical that Dortmund can get some much needed young talented blood in for next season. If I saw how many chances Langerak, Ginter, Dudziak, Jojic etc get while Hummels, Subotic, Mkhi and Gündogan can do everything wrong and still make the starting 11 next week I'd be extremely cautious. Really sad with the tactical development of my club : /
e: thank you Drone for the super interesting thoughts and facts about Norways athletes.
