Frankly, Hyde's play made him expendable. That dude hits holes like a freight train that can cut. He's probably going to be the Niner's goal line back this season (sorry Gore owners).

They must feel better about Lattimore's return than they have previously let on to let James go. The Niners basically are running with only two RBs in an offense that historically has been built around the run. Alternatively, they may intend on using Ellington as a change of pace back, who has looked good so far.

Anyway back to talking about players that can still play football I have to agree with xDaunt. Hyde looked explosive when he got carries against the Cowboys. Of course, they are a shitty defense but man is that a RB tandem out in San Francisco. I'm a little bummed because I have Gore in one of my leagues and I wanted him to be a consistent RB2 but oh well.

The Saints certainly fucked me good in fantasy football by fooling me into benching Matt Ryan. It'll be interesting to see whether this is the start of a trend. On a similar note, fuck the Rams for being dogshit on defense, too. The Vikings looked really good. That Rams defense is no joke (or at least it damn well shouldn't be). The Vikings' next five games are brutal (NE, @NO, Atl, @GB, Det), so we're going to find out real fast whether they're for real. If they come out of that stretch 3-3 or better, they'll be in really good shape going forward. Denver's defense doesn't look all that good either, despite all of the additions. Indy very easily could have won last night, but Denver got a lot of breaks. Also, John Fox is not a good head coach. They shouldn't have taken the foot off the gas and gone super conservative towards the end of the game. Elway has a done a great job assembling that team, but hiring and keeping John Fox is his one major misstep. It's kinda hard to assess how good the Niners are after yesterday's game. Romo literally threw the game away by the end of the first half. That Cowboys defense was as bad as we thought it was going to be as well when the Niners were actually still trying to score points in the first half. That said, I really did not like what I saw of the Niners defense. Dallas moved the ball at will discounting the turnovers. DeMarco Murray was averaging something stupid like 6.7 yards per carry early, but the geniuses on the Dallas sideline kept calling pass plays. I think Dallas is going to be a good running team with their line, but I worry about whether the Niners have the personnel to stop runs coming up the gut. I also didn't like all of the missed tackles by Niners players. That's not something that I'm used to seeing from them. The next Niners game is against the Bears, which should play out similarly to this one, minus Romo's implosion. Hopefully the defense will tighten up. I didn't see the saints game, but the Pats D didn't do as badly as the scoreboard shows. They were quite strong in the first half and in the start of the third quarter, but then the O line evaporated and they just didn't get off the field. Plus the fact that the oline didn't give Brady enough protection to keep him up right long enough to get off the pass, so he kept getting hit and humbled twice putting the D back on the field fast and with a short field for the phins. That meant that Wilfork, their one big run stuffer, didn't have the time to catch his breath, making the phins run game have a easy time of it. The Secondary was good all game long, and the one time Revis got beat was when he deflected a deep ball, right into Mike Wallace's arms for the easiest touch down catch of his life. This is the classic case of one part of the game plan collapsing and taking everything else with it. The starting Center wasn't ready for week one, one of the big names on the line went out injured early, and what was left was not ready for Cameron Wake. The D should be much better next week, but the O line may screw the entire team over. They either need a stronger back up for Wilfork, switch to the 4-3 (which would work because most of the defensive tackle depth is much better suited for the 4-3), or for the O line to get its shit together. That being said the hot sporst taek crowd are right on about the O line, it could sink the Patriots this year.

It was pretty ugly to see it, but I'm wondering what had to happen to make anyone think knocking a woman that size unconscious is okay. It's obvious she couldn't have done anything to be physically threatening to him. Ray Rice is a bad person. It's not a big deal, tons of people are bad. I don't judge my surgeon on whether he's a wife-beater, or my public defender, or my accountant. But I just love the NFL for its truly hilarious combo of ethical bankrupcy and self-righteous preening. Frankly, I'm glad the NFL is the most important institution in the United States. TMZ clearly had been sitting on that video for a while and timed its release well. What's hilarious to me is that such a self-important organization as the NFL is now making the excuse that they haven't seen the video before. Either they're lying through their ass about not seeing the video before or the NFL is weaker than a tabloid.

Also, how do suspensions on free agents work? If it were a 6 game suspension, does he have to be on a team for 6 games, unable to play, before he is eligible again?

First Goodell suspends him for two games, then caves to public pressure and changes the policy to 6 games for a first offense and lifetime ban for a second offense. Then this video is released and Rice receives an indefinite suspension for what is still technically his first offense, even though you can bet the NFL saw this video a long time ago. Also, how do suspensions on free agents work? If it were a 6 game suspension, does he have to be on a team for 6 games, unable to play, before he is eligible again? I agree with this post. This whole fucking thing is so unfathomably stupid from all angles. Rice is a retard, but Gooddell is a huge shithead for how he's dealt with this.

And let me summarize your criticism or Goodell for future reference: I will criticize Goodell's actions regardless of what they are. When he gives light sentences, I say he doesn't care about issues. When he gives harsh sentences, I say he's a despot who acts without evidence.

If the NFLPA wasnt' such a limpdick group, they should have pushed for an independent disciplinarian ages ago.
