Also, I can't help but be disturbed by her rush to defend him after the fact. No secret that some people will give up self-respect to live a comfortable life.

Women who are abused by their husbands often blame themselves for the abuse -- it's a real mental disorder. That's what I meant earlier when I said that the victims of DV typically aren't rational.

Not sure if that's the case here or if she's just being coerced/enticed to make it seem that way.

First, I think we may have been had by the hyped Patriots and Saints defenses. The Saints certainly fucked me good in fantasy football by fooling me into benching Matt Ryan. It'll be interesting to see whether this is the start of a trend. On a similar note, fuck the Rams for being dogshit on defense, too. The Vikings looked really good. That Rams defense is no joke (or at least it damn well shouldn't be). The Vikings' next five games are brutal (NE, @NO, Atl, @GB, Det), so we're going to find out real fast whether they're for real. If they come out of that stretch 3-3 or better, they'll be in really good shape going forward. Denver's defense doesn't look all that good either, despite all of the additions. Indy very easily could have won last night, but Denver got a lot of breaks. Also, John Fox is not a good head coach. They shouldn't have taken the foot off the gas and gone super conservative towards the end of the game. Elway has a done a great job assembling that team, but hiring and keeping John Fox is his one major misstep. It's kinda hard to assess how good the Niners are after yesterday's game. Romo literally threw the game away by the end of the first half. That Cowboys defense was as bad as we thought it was going to be as well when the Niners were actually still trying to score points in the first half. That said, I really did not like what I saw of the Niners defense. Dallas moved the ball at will discounting the turnovers. DeMarco Murray was averaging something stupid like 6.7 yards per carry early, but the geniuses on the Dallas sideline kept calling pass plays. I think Dallas is going to be a good running team with their line, but I worry about whether the Niners have the personnel to stop runs coming up the gut. I also didn't like all of the missed tackles by Niners players. That's not something that I'm used to seeing from them. The next Niners game is against the Bears, which should play out similarly to this one, minus Romo's implosion. Hopefully the defense will tighten up.

I take back everything I said in defense of him and wish the NFL wasn't so idiotic on their stances against substance use and domestic violence. Disgusting. That's good on you, we discussed this earlier on the thread. It was pretty ugly to see it, but I'm wondering what had to happen to make anyone think knocking a woman that size unconscious is okay. It's obvious she couldn't have done anything to be physically threatening to him. Ray Rice is a bad person. It's not a big deal, tons of people are bad. I don't judge my surgeon on whether he's a wife-beater, or my public defender, or my accountant. But I just love the NFL for its truly hilarious combo of ethical bankrupcy and self-righteous preening. Frankly, I'm glad the NFL is the most important institution in the United States.

Now it will be interesting to see which team will sacrifice moral integrity to pick him up. I hope no one does. It's not like he looked elite or even good the last time he played anyway.
