He's not good enough to be a qb On May 11 2014 04:04 AgentW wrote: He was very well regarded as a TE out of high school, and he's a terrible QB, so it makes sense. Hes not a terrible QB, hes just an extremely raw QB prospect that will need at least 2-3 years of work before you will see anything from him. As a VT fan I saw a metric ton of his games and can say all the physical tools are there and occasionally you would see flashes of being ridiculously good. Unfortunately, he was also massively inconsistent and could never string a couple of those flashes together. That all said, Logan Thomas was massively overrated after his first year. That offense was fairly solid despite their embarrassing offensive game plans and play-calling (Stinespring's firing was about 5 years too late). Unfortunately, over the next two years, the talent that was there during that first season was either drafted or graduated and was not replaced. This exposed the many flaws that you would expect from a raw prospect (and people began to point them out instead of just glossing over them).

Well it would be odd, he's a good player his measurables aren't that great and he didn't wow people at pro days or combine but past performance alone should warrant a pick in the 5-7th round easy. So it be weird if he was snubbed.

According to media he dropped due to personality concerns, apparently he came of as very cocky and spoiled in his team meetings. Still great value for a 5th rounder imo.

Texas was one of just four schools from college football's five power conferences (Big 12, SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12) to suffer the ignominious feat. Illinois, Northwestern, and fellow Big 12 member Kansas were the others. ... Among the schools that also had at least one player drafted, or more than Texas: Lindenwood, Pittsburg State, Bloomsburg (Penn.), McGill, Maine, Concordia (St. Paul), Northwest Missouri State, Saginaw Valley and Princeton. In addition, 14 players were selected from schools in the state of Texas. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Notre Dame now has the longest streak of at least one player drafted at 77 straight years. The Fighting Irish and Longhorns had entered this drafted tied for the longest streaks. Pretty crazy. It also mentions that the 5th year seniors that would be leaving Texas would have been part of the #2 ranked high school recruiting class at the time

I had no idea that Brown had dropped that big of a deuce on the UT program. As for the Niners draft, I'm really surprised that they didn't move up once to grab anyone. They must really not have liked the talent that was available -- particularly in the first around. Of course, I expressed similar dismay last year when they didn't move up to grab any corners (particularly the first round guys, though they did get Eric Reid), and it seems like Baalke made a pretty good call in retrospect. He addressed the core needs, albeit in a roundabout way. The first round pick played safety, but it seems like he'll actually be a slot corner, which we need. Picking up Hyde suggests that Lattimore isn't ready (and may never be). The Stevie Johnson trade was a really good move. With the pickup of Ellington, the Niner receiver corp actually looks pretty good: Crabtree, Boldin, Johnson, Patton, Ellington, and Osgood (special teams). Lloyd and Baldwin will be cut, which is fine. The only thing that I wonder about is whether any of the late round corner pickups will be worth a damn. The Niners need at least one of those guys to be a player that they can use. All in all, I can't really complain. It would have been nice if they had traded more picks for next year. A few of those guys who were drafted are probably going to end up on other teams, even considering the 2-3 players that will be redshirted.

Tons of bitching about how he fell to the late 7th and how it's obviously because the NFL is still immature and bigoted and homophobic as a whole entity, apparently even the Rams who waited til the final moment to grab him. If he turns into a powerhouse pass rusher, great. It just isn't likely to happen, which is why many thought that he'd go undrafted. But that's all besides the point. The fact that he's gay and openly came out creates publicity issues that no one really wants to deal with. There are lots of other marginal players that the Rams could have taken that wouldn't have carried the same baggage that Sam brings with him. And frankly, the problem isn't really whatever homophobic sentiments that may be out there. The problem is that GLBT advocacy groups are going to be shining a spotlight up the Rams' ass for the foreseeable future and simply won't be able to keep their mouths shut.
