They needed a pass rusher since both Ware and Hatcher are gone. Quick read appears that he should be a solid edge pass rusher (in either 3-4 or 4-3) but is currently a undersized for a DE (anticipated to get bigger), lacks some strength, and does not have the elite straight line speed. Overall looks to a be a solid pick that fills a Dallas need and picked roughly in his projected area (so not a reach).
Better question would be: Where is Jerry Jones and who is that impostor that his taken his place at the draft table?
I heard that they have someone new in control of the scouting or war room. Dont remember where I heard that. Think it was necessary to trade up to get him?
A lot of people were projecting the falcons to take Lawrence at 37 based on what I saw looking around today so yeah they probably needed to trade ahead of them to get him

Cant really call a Day 1 starter in the 1st round a reach. Yea James wasn't projected there but he filled a need, played in the SEC and according to most analysts was underrated.
Idk if the second OT pick was a reach either. He's being projected right now to get moved to guard. And they gained a later round pick with their 3 trades in the 3rd, seems like some upside there.
just in shock that the raiders have managed to go three whole picks and not made a huge fuck up (and got another pick in the process!)
sure i don't really want carr and would have preferred us to have traded for bridgewater, but they're taking a shot at finding a QB and he can sit behind schaub while developing at least

and yet you KNOW they probably found a gem
I would speculate that they traded down to save money for Russel Wilson. How is their cap situation? It must be odd "hey guys i am starting QB on the superbowl winning team and make less money then my 2 backups and the fricking kicker."

I don't think so. The Ravens selected Matt Elam with the 32nd pick in last years draft, and with the new CBA, you pretty much get paid the same by slot year to year. Elam doesn't exactly make a lot of money.
Okay, Niners. You still need a corner -- probably 2. You could use a speedy WR to stretch the field. And you really need to trade some draft picks away. Go go go.
Bryce Brown traded to the Bills. I don't know why we gave up a 4th (possibly a 3rd). It would make sense had we traded Spiller or something, but could they just be presuming Spiller's going to walk? I don't understand this move.
So maybe teams have finally wised up and decided that it's a bad idea to waste mid-high draft picks on QBs who are unlikely to be more than career backups?
