Sorry he was the ravens OC instead of qb coach also forgot to mention that our new DC was the guy who was DC for the Lions when they went 0-16 And Rod Marinelli was the HC, but he's one of the best DCs in the league. There was so much wrong with that 0-16 team. Marinelli obviously couldn't motivate the whole team to play, and they had so little talent during that stretch. You probably have a good reason to be concerned though, considering he's been out of football for three years. That doesn't just happen to positions coaches if they're any good... although he had a strong LB corps when he coached them in San Diego. Cavanaugh is probably better than some of his stats indicate. He's had a dearth of talent to work with in the past. You can't blame him for Trent Dilfer or Mark Sanchez sucking, it's really not his fault. A lot of things about Jay Cutler improved in his first year, chiefly his pocket mechanics. He regressed badly this year, but that's as much on him as it is on any coach. I'm sure there are far worse hires that could have been made. I think what's more concerning is that Jay Gruden didn't feel the need to have a QBs coach last year. Every team has one now (practically) why would his be any different?

Considering he mostly played better after that point, I would say no.

This off-season has been a catastrophe so far.

I agree the rules are retarded, and his weed drama bs should never have even counted against him in a just world, but they are what they are. if you know your workplace has a target on you and will have zero tolerance for drinking and drug use and you do it anyway how is that not a sign of addiction? being an addict encompasses a lot more than showing up to work blasted. Thanks for the diagnosis, armchair doctor. His behavior may be harmful to his career but to call him a 'hopeless addict' just reeks of stupidity and ignorance while insulting to those individuals who truly have substance abuse issues. Perhaps he just thinks he is above the law and won't get caught again; an attitude that seems pretty common in the NFL. And just because it is in the CBA does not mean it's policies are not ridiculous. You realize a lot of workplaces have zero tolerance and despite a large proportion of employers use one of the three different drug testing methodologies (application testing, random testing, and suspicion testing), people are still caught using multiple times but that doesn't automatically mean they're addicted.

On Jan. 2 of this year, just days after our season ended earlier than we all had hoped — and yes, my actions during the prior offseason definitely contributed to our failure to make the playoffs; it killed me seeing our guys fight so hard when I wasn’t out there with them — I boarded a private flight to Las Vegas with several teammates. During the flight, I had two beers and two drinks. It was the first time I had consumed so much as a drop of alcohol since July 4, 2014, the day of the DWI. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not much of a drinker. Even calling me a social drinker would be an exaggeration, but at that moment, on that flight, I made a choice. The wrong choice, as it turned out. Upon landing, I received the all-too-familiar notice by phone that I was to report to a testing location within four hours. I failed the test, obviously, and the rest is history … colored by media speculation and faux outrage. am a human being, with feelings and emotions and scars and flaws, just like anyone else. I make mistakes — I have made a lot of mistakes — but I am a good person, and I will persevere. If I have a “problem,” it is that I am only 23 years old — with a lot left to learn. I’ve come a long way from those mean Fondren streets, but it’s clear that I can be a better me — one who kids coming up to me for selfies and autographs can be proud of. I want that future for myself. And I truly believe that what I am going through right now will only make me stronger. I believe that my future is bright. Yeah I'd be pissed if I was him too. Forget about the ignorant posters here, I'd be really pissed about national TV personalities saying dumb shit like they "worry about whether alcohol will kill" me, without having a clue about who I am or how often I drink...

The Substance Abuse policy is in effect year round I believe, so regardless of when it happened, it happened. I could be wrong though, I never looked into all the details of the revised policies(SA and PED).
