Remember Vancouver? Plushenko vs Lysacek? The same shit - just reversed. You have more difficulty jumps? Well, sucks that you don't win.
Except the execution from Mao from was greater than that of the russian's with a more difficult program.... Your argument doesn't work here cause lysacek had the lesser program but greater GOE, and the reverse for Plush.... And why the hell are you bringing up quads vs. tiple triples... The scoring implications in that are far greater and nothing in the ladies program even compares.... Maybe Triple axel combo vs. all the other triples combinations...
I meant the overall problem of "More difficulty program, but worse execution" vs "Easy program, but better execution". It was a comment about your 1st line, not the 2nd with Mao (I should've removed that line). People are saying the Russian girl had more difficult jumps, except that didn't matter in 2010 for Plushenko.
^ Plush literally edged out his quads in his programs.... Landed, indeed... but unfortunately for him, we have something called GOE... I didn't see Kim or Mao having any difficulties with their jumps, if anything... I believe they came out of their jumps with much more speed than the "gold medalist"

It seems to me that all three girls were really close in terms of skill and whoever smiled the most towards the judges won. Besides none of you can say that you are neutrals either considering the amount of Yuna adoration around here
It's always been that way in figure skating man no matter the discipline and judging is just as much a farce as it was when they changed the scoring. C'est la vie.
Let's be realistic here. The women are much, much slower, they are far less physical (because of the rules), and they are worse at shooting, puck possession, and passing, and all of this was clearly evident in today's game.
That said, it doesn't mean that it wasn't great hockey. It was. It was incredibly entertaining and exciting. "Greatest moments" in any sport or event are always plagued by mistakes. There are multiple people on the ice at the time, all kinds of uncertainties (from ice quality to refs to whatever), and a huge amount of stress. It's the nature of anything where there are multiple people directly competing at the same time under time constraints. If you want to see the best hockey executed, you'll probably have to watch some meaningless mid-season game against a crappy opponent by a great team. If you want to see true excitement, then you have to accept the fact that you'll see quirky things and mistakes in the big pressure games. That's just how it works.
I'm curious what people on TL think about medal rankings (if anyone even cares, maybe it's just 'Murican thing). So far Norway has most golds with 10, and USA most total medals with 25. IMO gold is the most important consideration, with total medals considered in the event of a gold tie. In my mind, the current ranking would be:
Edit: Apparently that is the same way the actual Sochi Olympics site does it: http://www.sochi2014.com/en NBC and ESPN rank by total medals, and BBC goes by the same as the official site.

Pretty much, US goes by totals, the world goes by gold.
Some of the criticism is probably fair. Personally I have no clue how to judge a figure skating competition, and neither does the majority of people out there.
But quoting Ashley Wagner is disappointing. That girl is nothing but whine and did not even deserve to be at the Olympics.

Think of it like the metric system
Yeah, I'm realizing this after checking several different countries' news sites And apparently NBC only changed to total medals within the last couple Olympics.

Link me one non-Russian skating insider who doesn't think the result was at least dubious. The score was just ludicrously high relative to Yuna's record and the free-skate performances of Asada/Yuna/Kostner. Consider also she made a very visible mistake on one of her jumps and is just out of the juniors. She wasn't even the best Russian skater coming into this and a judge somehow gave Yuna a 0 for one of her jumps in the short program. It was clearly rigged and I don't even like Yuna that much, more annoyed with how low they scored Asada in the long program relative to the inflated Russians.

Some bitch gave kim yu na a zero. I mean come on a zero?!!? Even if the judge thinks kim yuna deserves a zero, I wanna hear the fucking reason for it. This is bullshit

"Weir alluded to a potential home-ice advantage. But Weir backtracked later, saying he agreed with the podium “100%.” Lipinski said Sotnikova deserved to win because she skated with the most heart. Or did she skate with the most fan support, which gave the impression she had the most heart?"
