That basically rules out everything judged like Figure Skating. Team based scoring events like curling or soccer can also stay since they are competitive . What about accuracy sports like Shooting and Archery? (Yawn) What about diving?! ![]() Unfortunately, Figure Skating and Gymnastics are giant cash cows. They aren't going to give that up.

Program = (more or less) artistic expression. Technical = higher / better / speedy The russian girl was very good I thought. That her program got the same points as Kostner's and Yuna's, which were simply outstanding, does not seem right. But Yuna needed to be 5 points better in the program to win, it would have been really close even if Yuna got the (probably deserved) lead here. All I can say is that personally, I will have forgotten the russian girl in two months time. But I won't forget Yuna's name / performance (and Kostner's for that matter, but her technical execution just wasn't high enough to win). anytime soon. So in my subjective, layman world, Yuna was the actual winner. But I don't think the judging was too scandalous.

Pretty sketchy that he doesn't mention the whole 74/5 points lumped together under 'skill and artistry' that they ended up basically even on. Whilst I already knew Sotnikova did the harder routine there's 50% of the points unaccounted for whilst this expert quibbles over how the Russian got an extra point or two for harder jumps. I know it's more difficult to analyze the other half of the score but the fact Sotnikova's career best improved from 131.63 to 149.95, whilst making a mistake, just screams judging bias. I'm also baffled how someone caught for corrupt judging can ever be placed on an Olympic panel.

She blew a landing and her program wasn't as good as Kostner/Yuna/Asada. It's subjective of course but most non-Russians would agree Sotnikova's score got inflated.

They aren't going to give that up. Archery/Shooting can stay. They are skill competitions. Diving and Gymnastics though definatley can go. Their are more then a few events that can stay that really don't fit the higher faster stronger theme but the main point is I hate events where a 3rd party determines how well you did.

Jumps have and difficulty has always been important. Sotnikova's score might have gotten a tad high but it's far from a scandal she won. Sotnikova had better jumps and 1 more than Yuna if I remember it right. Edit: The reactions to her gold is what I consider somewhat of a scandal.
