But for me it's not a matter of numbers, just watch 2 highlight vids of them side by side, there are things that only messi can do and that's why even if cristiano had better stats(which he doesn't) I'd still favor leo for the top spot.
*plus cristiano is a big choker but I'll wait to see him in the world cup as well to be fair.
How is Christiano a choker and Messi not? Or did I miss Argentina win titles? lol

cristiano being a choker hasn't been true for at least 5 years.
and basically, cronaldo is the most complete offensive player ever but probably not the best at any single area, whereas if you rank the ability of every single football player in terms of managing to pass opponents while maintaining control of the ball, then messi is a 10 and number #2 is 7 or 8. there's a mountain of divide between messi and #2 in the areas where messi is #1, and with the exception of messi, people being that much better than the second best player doesn't happen in professional football anymore.

Which is why he scored all four goals in Portugal's playoff with Sweden...?

As far as I remember, before the tiki-taka era, Xavi wasn't really just a passing machine; his role was much more diverse and offensive than today because he Rijkaard would always safeguard him with Marquez and Deco behind. Especially Deco was crucial; he had like most fouls commited in La Liga at some point. So no, not even close to Pirlo; perhaps much more like, say, Fabregas used to be in Arsenal?
To be honest, the real reason of Xavi's big evolution was Iniesta. At first, they were subs of each other with Iniesta being the backup player; then i turned out that the team can play with 1 DM instead of 2 because those two guys were able to boss the posession together for 3/4 of match (the other reason was that Busquets turned out to be an awesome addition).
I wouldn't say Messi did that much for Xavi and Iniesta recognition as they did to each other; however, by claiming the role of Barcelona's goalscoring workhorse, he sort of pushed Eto'o, Villa and Ibrahimović out of the club, and that's already impressive feat. Leo outperformed them in terms of teamwork and efficiency, but having so many clean, open goal passes from the midfield, I'm pretty sure any of the guys I mentioned would score the buttload. The main difference was that Messi was amazing at creating chances for himself and causing stir in opponents' midfield, while other Barca strikers were kind of one-dimensional players the whole team had to work for to really be effective (although I loved how Eto'o could absorb the best defensive lines).

That picture misses assists.

Btw it's just mind blowing that messi has more appearances than cristiano considering cr7 is a physical monster. That may explain why injuries finally caught up with messi this season.

Jermain Defoe has agreed an incredible £90,000-a-week switch to MLS side FC Toronto.
The 31-year-old Tottenham and England striker has shattered the hopes of domestic clubs bidding to land him in January by accepting a stunning four-year offer to move to Canada.
Defoe said yes to the deal, also worth £6million to the White Hart Lane club, last week.
It is understood he will discuss the implications for his World Cup prospects with England boss Roy Hodgson.
But the transfer means the striker is set to end his career in Canada.

Yeah, Ronaldo's game has 0 weaknesses, he is exceptional at every single offensive skill and attribute (I'm not sure there's been anyone else quite like that), including some necessary defensive play. Messi is more specialized but in the things he specializes in he's untouchable.

Seems like they caught up with Ronaldo as well, as he's out of the CL game against Galatasaray with a hamstring injury.
Leighton Baines is also out for six weeks with a fractured toe he suffered in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday. Bad news for his FPL owners (which is pretty much everybody).

If I had to use scores to illustrate the difference between the players it would be Messi 100 and Ronaldo 85. This season though, Ronaldo has been really impressive. Not as good as Messi 100%, but very scary. He just doesn't miss a chance :o

yeah that has always been the difference between the two. Messi interestingly enough has become a little more selfish these last two years, but he still finds his teammates more than Ronaldo does. If Ronaldo's decision making were to be a little better he would really challenge a 100% Messi IMO.
That said as impressive as Ronaldo's stats are they mean little if there aren't trophies to back it up IMO. In his four years at Madrid, Ronaldo has one league title and one cup title. Had he stayed at Man Utd, he could have helped Utd to 4 league titles, fa cups and a possible champions league title.

Some rumors that AVB might be about to lose his job....seems to just be Sky Sports talking about it though and not many others. Could be a pretty knee jerk reaction to a 6-0 defeat lol

Ronaldo has fewer assists because no one in his team can keep up with him.

Besides the stupid CR / Messi comparison i would love to see Messi in a different team. The thing with him is that he is perfectly fit for the Barcelona system. Not only skill wise, physical too and on the mindset.
I think it would be amazing to see what happened if he would play for Bayern and how he function in a counter attack based league like Bundesliga or in with ManU or Chelsea in the more physical PL.

I know, but I mean with Ronaldo you guys could have perhaps won the champions league in 2011 as well. He would have been a legend at United.

CR is already a Madrid legend, even if he wins "only" one CL there.
