Right now it is 2 guys from Mercedes winning because they have the best car. I know who will win even before the qualifications begin and that kills it for me. I don't know why everyone focuses so much on the pilots when they hardly matter. F1 is all about the manufacturers - The one that makes the best car wins. At least in the past we had great battles between McLaren and Ferrari... Now it is just a race with a single horse. It is the same for the past couple of years. 2 years ago, Vettel won the world championship by 3 points from Alonso... and last year it wasn't absolute domination from race 1 of the season continually. It was only the second half where it was Vettel on his own. So it's not at all the same as the last 2 years, unless having 4 different winners in 4 different cars in the first 10 races last year, and a 3 point championship between two teams the year before is like having almost all 1-2 finishes from one team except for a single retirement? ![]() Second half of the season. Half the field getting grid penalties. Woo great new rules. 28.4 a) Unless he drives for more than one team (see 28.4(d) below), each driver may use no more than five power units during a Championship season. b) For the purposes of this Article 28.4 the power unit will be deemed to comprise six separate elements, the engine (ICE), the motor generator unit-kinetic (MGU-K), the motor generator unit-heat (MGU-H), the energy store (ES), turbocharger (TC) and control electronics (CE). Each driver will therefore be permitted to use five of each of the above six components during a Championship season and any combination of them may be fitted to a car at any one time. c) Should a driver use more than five of any one of the elements a grid place penalty will be imposed upon him at the first Event during which each additional element is used. Penalties will be applied according to the following table and will be cumulative : Replacement of a complete power unit = The driver concerned must start the race from the pit lane. The first time a 6th of any of the elements is used = Ten grid place penalty. The first time a 6th of any of the remaining elements is used = Five grid place penalty. The first time a 7th of any of the elements is used = Ten grid place penalty. The first time a 7th of any of the remaining elements is used, and so on = Five grid place penalty.

Are there any circuits that are more break heavy than Montreal? Best race of the season, and poor Perez, he worked so hard to keep everyone off of him, sad that it came to that.

When you take out the 2 Mercs, the race was really close. Mercs still got a huge advantage, but rest of field are really bunching up. Canada is always a good race. Its funny that one of the most simplest of circuits provides great racing. All them new circuits your man designed are bore tests with way too many corners. Well done Daniel!

I thought Monza was just a high speed circuit? When I play it in Gran Turismo there's really only that chicane thing after the long straight where you slow down a lot, and besides that, you can go through every turn at 120km/h+. Does high speed just automatically mean heavy on breaking? ![]() Turn 7-11 are all 160km/h+ corners, maybe you need to go down to 150 for coming into 11. Actually watching a lap of hamilton, there is only two times in the entire lap you go below 170km/h(that's crazy), I guess one high speed brake a lap is all it takes.

At Montreal, entry speed into high braking zones are approximate 280-310 (no DRS). At Monza, I expect entry speeds to be approxmately 320-350 (possibly higher if Spain was any indicator, no DRS). Energy is proportional to speed², the energy that the brakes need to dissipate will be about 20% higher (since corner speed is 80-100 km/h, energy is negligible). However, Montreal is about 30% more laps, so lower intensity but longer duration.

1) The layout. A lot of heavy braking and a lot of corners where you carry a lot of speed into another heavy braking. This means cars have good chance to carry good speed and out brake drivers 2) Its a partial street circuit. The surface is different than a normal race track 3) Leading on from that is its very bumpy and there is some big kerbs 4) Weather can be quite unpredictable too with rain quite frequent. 5) High chance of safety car because of the layout and lack of run off areas
