Clearly written by someone who hasn't watched them play except for the Islanders series. Regular season and first round were night and day. Penguins were hitting everyone everywhere all the time during the regular season. First round they stopped except in Game 5, hopefully they will remember how to play physical for a whole series now. Only spot they really can hurt you is on the score sheet. Neither of you know what you're talking about as you both clearly have watched very few Penguins games other than the first round. Examples: http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400443114http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400460455http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400443151Even when they got outhit it was close and giveaways and takeaways were not so lopsided, now look at the 3 games that were close against the Islanders: http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400462016 - outhit which led to numerous giveaways http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400462023 - outhit again http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400462019 - barely outhit but by this point in the series the isles didn't need to outhit by a large margin to get takeaways And game 6: http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=40046206 - outhit again and lucky to win in OT So I don't know if the Penguins were tired in general or playing too many old guys *cough*Jokinnen*cough* but putting Vitale and Kennedy in the lineup for game 4 clearly made a difference: http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=400462025 - only game where the Penguins had more takeaways than the Isles except for game 1 which was clearly a case of nerves on the part of the Isles. At some point in the last week of the regular season the Penguins lost their physicality and didn't really get it back until game 5. Which is a lot different from saying they're not built to be a physical team, anyone who has watched all their games this season knows that's total nonsense. They had one of the best forechecks in the league until the last week of the regular season.
I'm taking what I said from this series + all their playoff games in 08 and 09 and some from what I remember of the last couple of years. I DID say they are better this year with more depth. That being said, they are not THAT impressive of a team unless their two superstars are going off and MAF is actually playing like a starting goaltender.

yay leafs!!

EDIT: such an amazing game 6 between Rangers - Capitals, so much happened for only 1 goal scored. Tense and very very tight! Absolutely love it! pfft forget about Holtby, this Reimer kid is where it's at!

Red Wings just 20 minutes to pull of their first upset in 10 years.

I like the Ducks and wanted them to win, but if by some miracle, the Wings make it out of the West and the Leafs the East, that would be such a sick final!

If the Wings knock off the Ducks their series with Chicago is going to be amazing. One last playoff battle with their divisional rivals before they scurry off to the east. It may be the best series of the playoffs if it happens and ill enjoy every second of it

Jonathan Erickson is fucking awful. I am glad Holland gave him a NTC because nobody would be retarded enough to trade for ihm. Fucking waste of human skin.

GJ Wings. You managed to hold on.

Fuck ya red wings. REBUILD year and they knock out the 2nd seed.

I saw some list on a different forum that the professional picks was slightly in Detroit's favor so it can't be that much of an upset. :p

Now we get one last series with the Fuckhawks. I'm gonna be disappointed if this isn't at least 6 games (unless it's a Red Wings sweep of course ).
The West is gonna be pretty sick with Wings-Hawks and Kings-Sharks. Two great rivalries in the second round.

really surprised about the leafs. i really thought the b's would have their way with them since they clearly better in ever facet except for maybe offense (even then id say it is about even)
hoping for two awesome games tonight.
as far as the isles, Nabby wasnt spectacular, but he didnt cost them the series and he was good enough during the regular season. but it's something they could certainly improve (then again, so could all of their positions; the isles are the definition of one of those teams that are the jack of all trades but not great at any one thing)
the isles lost because they were playing a team that, while flawed in a big way in net and at d, is much better than the isles in pretty much every way. they were going to need a lot of lucky bounces and stops, good play in their own end and a ton of timely goals. they got some of that, and in reality, i think played pitt way better than a majority of people thought they would.
while the isles need a future goalie, i think nabby provides enough consistently decent play that he can stop gap for a couple more years. what they really need is another high level player to take the heat off of tavares a bit, and some better depth dudes at forward (or guys like bailey, okposo, neilsen finally take that last step they've been on for a couple years). They could also use another bonafide top 2 or at least top 4 dman. Streit's past his prime, Vis is old, and the other dudes theyve got are solid but not particularly dynamic or anything
i wonder if them kind of hobbling into the 2nd makes holland think this team is better than it really is. they were probably first round fodder against any of the other top 4 seeds. anaheim had been getting lucky all year according to the advanced stats. theyve always gonna have a chance with the big 4 at forward + hiller/fasth but overall the team is pretty aveerage and had the benefit of a short season so they didnt get to see luck switch sides

Well, this season the Bruins have struggled a lot. When they won the Cup their lines were firing on all cylinders but other than that their scoring touch disappears quite frequently and what do you know. They struggled in the stretch and now they only have one line going. Whereas, the Leafs achilles heel was turnovers, giveaways, getting out shot and playing in their own zone way too frequently. Other than that the Leafs have been pretty good statistically in the other categories. Oh wait, I might want to add the fact they only have a few guys who are good at winning faceoffs as well, heh.

Felt like the Wings got outplayed in the first 6 games, but were very lucky to steal 3. No idea what happened in game 7, either the ducks were very tired or the atrocious Wings defense all the sudden decided to play good.
|
I really hope Rangers will win tonightl. Lundqvist has been stellar so far. Best goalie in the NHL by far IMHO. Other than that, don't really care who wins between Boston or Toronto...but inner me is cheering for Toronto i think.

Hoping for a Leafs upset tonight, every time I don't believe they pull it off. Wings held what a sick series vs the Ducks, and now vs the Hawks. Great Hockey all around. Go Leafs & Caps!

We have plenty of room on our bandwagon for other Canadians... just take a seat over there next to Flaccid

I'll be the one passed out with shit in his pants. You may want to find another seat.

Not really, if the Wings had stopped scoring on their own net the series would have been a 4-1 romp for the Wings. As for Ken Holland thinking the team is better than it is, I doubt it. When you lose 3 leads in the third period and in two of those leads its not Anaheim doing anything special but your own guys -- too young or too incompetent -- put pucks in your net its not like "Well, the Ducks battled hard"
This Wings team is easily one of the worst they've ever iced in the modern era and yet I think they have a decent chance against the Hawks. The Hawks have one more bonefied super star -- Hossa -- and their top D pair is better but Corey Crawford? Razor? I dont know, I guess we will see but I wouldnt be surprised another upset.
As for Boston, I watched game and the Bruins looked like they didnt want to be there. Ugly passes, slow skating, Horton and Lucic look like they dont want to play professional hockey at all.

The Leafs performance this year really doesn't count because its based on a "small sample size". lol.
