Not really, if the Wings had stopped scoring on their own net the series would have been a 4-1 romp for the Wings. As for Ken Holland thinking the team is better than it is, I doubt it. When you lose 3 leads in the third period and in two of those leads its not Anaheim doing anything special but your own guys -- too young or too incompetent -- put pucks in your net its not like "Well, the Ducks battled hard"
This Wings team is easily one of the worst they've ever iced in the modern era and yet I think they have a decent chance against the Hawks. The Hawks have one more bonefied super star -- Hossa -- and their top D pair is better but Corey Crawford? Razor? I dont know, I guess we will see but I wouldnt be surprised another upset.
As for Boston, I watched game and the Bruins looked like they didnt want to be there. Ugly passes, slow skating, Horton and Lucic look like they dont want to play professional hockey at all.
You don't think at least one of Kane or Toews is a super star?? I think those two before I think Hossa as far as pecking order there. Especially Kane because he does some ridiculous things with the puck on his stick
We can't really assess Hossa's talent level at this point in his career because its based on a small sample size of only about a thousand games or so. Basically, we know that we know nothing.

not sure what game you were watching last night.
More importantly,
Will there be 10,000 20,000 or 30,000
people at Maple Leaf Square Tonight?
Was the Bruin's airplane issues real or a contrived ploy by Julien to keep them out of town? Gotta love Tyler Bozak skating around during the pre-game warm up... that was great stuff.
Sharks/Kings is going to be a fun and very physical series. Both teams are evenly matched. We'll see if the Sharks continue to play like they were shot out of a cannon. I tend to think that this is a good candidate for a 7-game series.
Other than Havlat and possible Demers (neither of whom basically played against the Canucks), the Sharks should be very healthy with all of the time that they have had off. Any word on the Kings after the Blues series?

No. I mean Kane and Toews are cancelled out by Zetterberg and Datsyuk. But they have no one to cancel out Hossa. 3-4 years ago I'd say and 'Franzen is clutch in playoffs and so he will cancel the less-than-clutch Hossa' but Franzen's decline is complete and now he cant skate, he cant battle, he is a new samueleson without the bravery of standing right in the blue paint.
Ahhhh gotcha. ok that makes much more sense. And yeah I agree, Franzen isnt as good as he used to be. Still useful but that contract is pretty meh
I don't watch enough of those teams to know how those coaches will try to line match and stuff. I know Dats and Z can play shutdown. Do the Hawks run Toes and Kane together or seperate more often, and are they gonna get matched by the Wings?

how is Alex Anthopoulos doin? ya, thought so.
who is it that said the Leafs were a well coached team in February? who disagreed ?
thing is... all you had to do was go to a few games and just carefully observe and you could figure out that Carlyle was doing a great job. so i'm not claiming to be some kind of savant by recognizing something fairly obvious. if you know fuck all about hockey you might not have been able to see it.
either way... you can never tell how good the coach is from a stats sheet though... you have to actually watch the games.
Tyler Bozak-gate was pure win.
Randy Carlyle for the Jack Adams trophy.
And, its nice to see Alex Ovechkin getting considered for the MVP, as i stated... he deserves it.
Don Cherry sends me out here into cyber-space to keep all you keyboard-jockies in line.
if you really want to experience what it means to be a Leafs fan... i recommend going to a lower-middle class neighbourhood in Toronto on a Maple Leaf playoff night a place with cheap beer. and watch the game there.
Looks like you're defining a "real fan." I use the scarequotes for a reason, socioeconomic status and bar frequenting has nothing to do with being a better or worse fan. The atmosphere can be quite electric for sure at the proper venue, but that doesn't make you a better fan for attending, nor a worse fan for watching elsewhere.
So I was just browsing Cap Geek for next year....did you guys realize that Lecavalire makes 7.8 million, and is set to do so for another 7 years? Talk about buyout candidate.

there are a lot of other dudes who might get one too. richards got something like 9 minutes in the last ranger game. he's gonna be getting one if he doesnt pull his head out of his ass really fast. people dogged him last year for not being a ppg but he was quite good. this year, he has been invisibile for long stretches. his point play on the pp has been awful but at this point i am positive that has more to do with ranger coaching since it has gone on for so long. his 5v5 play is inexcusable and prior to this latest stint in the doghouse he was getting top 6 minutes with good players for a while
i think you might see lu and one of bryz/briere get one. i am trying to think who else but i know there are more
and PK Subban deserves a fuck-tonne and maybe half a million dollars in Canadian Tire money for joining the national team in Finland after an ugly playoff loss to Ottawa.

My parents won't shut up about the Leafs game tonight, but I can't blame them. Just wish my Avs were in the playoffs too. Hopefully they do much better next season with Sakic and their first draft pick.

Yea the general feeling is amnesty Briere this year and see how it goes with Bryz. He's been alright so far, but certainly not worth the value of the contract. Makes you feel bad for him when all the terrible writers in Philly leap at the first sign of "goalie controversy." Heatley could be amnestied maybe, though there's only a year left anyway. The cap space saved wouldn't really help MIN go after anyone.
eh he hasnt been playing like what he should be getting paid but even hank or rinne would have trouble behind that god awful defense. timmonen aint what he used to be and everyone else is either playing way above where they should be or theyre just awful. i think bryz is fine with a passable d in front of him. that d honestly might be among the top 3 worst in the league
heater yeah they dont need the space immediately and he has one year. he is not worth 7m, but he is still good enough to play on the 2nd line for one year. it is a lot less risky than buying him out, and hoping whomever you are after signs or youre out a dude who is probably good for 20g and 50pts
You know, everyone shits on the Canucks for being choking cowards but look at Boston. After winning the Cup they have been pretty awful. Two years in a row now that an objectively worse team is going to eliminate them and they arent evening putting up a fight. Its like the entire 2011 SCF was cursed by the hockey gods.
