How's that crossfit and having bumpers treating you?

Well a tiny "update"how I look at 76 - 78kg ( @6'4" // 1m95).

It really bugs me how small I look now, since I used to be ~95kg+ before .. but working hard to get back at it!

Your small waist makes you look good sized anyway! What's your current waist size and arm size (if you take measurements)?

It is pretty much the sweetest thing ever lol. I'm training with one of the owners outside of their normal working hours so we get the whole gym to ourselves and I can yell and slam shit as much as I want. Hit 165lbs snatch today! Then missed 170lbs like six times. I trained alone and I got so pumped I went all Jon North-ish and started yelling lifters names before every attempt, I even yelled out "decaf!" before an attempt haha it was pretty fun.

Hi everyone!
I started working out mid September 2012 (so about 6 months ago). I'm 5ft8. I weighed 83kgs (183lbs), was pretty fat (not obese but still). I had never been really athletic or nothing before. So when I started, I had trouble bench pressing the olympic barbell (with no weights on it, so 20kg/44lbs). I think I could do maybe 10 reps with that weight ? Now I'm 68-71kgs (150-157lbs) (I weigh myself every morning after my shower). I've never tried to determine my 1RM for the BP, but it should be 65 or 70kgs (143/154lbs) (probably the latter). I hit a plateau at 50kgs (110lbs), but I went over it and now I use 60kgs (132lbs) when I train.
1RM deadlift : 110kgs (243lbs) 1RM squat : 100kgs (220.5lbs)
I feel like I can deadlift more, but my back starts going haywire at that weight and I have articular problems, so I refrain from trying. I'll improve over time though, I've been deadlifting & squatting only once or twice a week for maybe 4 weeks, so no big deal.
I still have quite a bit of body fat, but I'm cutting and my upper abs (especially obliques) are starting to say hi.
Now, for my goals :
Weight : either 66kgs (to be able to compete in featherlight class) or 75kgs (to be as strong as possible without becoming huge). Depends on whether I can achieve my goals/come close enough to them at 66kgs (doubt it). Since I'm only 5ft8, I don't want to be too massive, so not more than 75kgs (there's a guy same height as me, 75kgs, and has the exact strength I want, but he's a little too large). I favor aesthetics over brute strength, though.
Bench press : either 10x100kgs or 1RM = 140kgs Deadlift : 1RM = 200kgs Squat : 1RM = 180kgs
Also, I wanna be able to do the following things : vertical push ups (should learn how to stand on my hands first though haha), planche push ups, 1 one-arm pull up w/ each arm (supinated&pronated) & the human flag (for at least 10secs)
These are my goals for maybe one year from now. But by maybe September or something, I'd really wanna be able to have a 100kgs 1RM @ BP. Not sure if it's possible, since I'm only at 70kgs now. It'd require being able to lift 5 more kgs every month, and for during summer break (1st July 'til 15th Sept) I probably won't have access to a gym (not sure if weighted pushups can get me that strong). Any advices?
I'll post here once in a while saying where I'm at
Hmm, just seen the goals layout, so here it is :
GOALS UPDATE
Adel 23/03/2013 || 01/10/2013
Bodyweight: 69kg to 66kg
Squat: 100kg to 145kg Deadlift: 110 to 160 Bench Press: 70 to 100
Clean & Jerk: none, this exercise seems too dangerous to me Snatch: same
Misc goals : well defined muscles, esp pecs, abs, v-shape @ hips ; being able to stand on my hands, being able to make some planche push ups, 1 one-arm pull up w/ right arm (supinated) & the human flag (for at least 10secs)
Seems difficult but achievable!
Anyway, see you soon guys!

What are you planning on competing in Adel and what articular problems have you had? Just wondering why it is too dangerous for you to do CJ's and Snatches.
I'd say it is going to take quite some time to reach your goals on a cut but a maintenance diet would at least what you are going to need if you plan on packing on some muscle.

Sounds like MMA because he said featherweight is 66kg (heavier than featherweight in other stuff mostly). But they also have a 70kg category, so he wouldn't have to go up to 75kg, he could stay where he is.

So i was doing some squats yesterday and the end of my workout just for kicks and giggles I decided I would do a widowmaker set of just 135 pounds. Most painful shit ever haha, I could barely stand after that and made standing for 8 hours at work incredibly difficult.
Widowmakers are awesome though gonna keep on doing them! just not before work

@ Kaluro; we have pretty similar builds as I'm 6'6 and you're 6'4. I currently weigh 95kg but I'm cutting. Wanna have a progress pic-off in six weeks?

I've had (and still have) chronic arthritis. I feel like CJ's and snatches are too dangerous for everyone, and since I have a rather weak bone structure... I stay away from those two. I'm already very leery of deadlifts, actually.
And Deadeight's right, I'm planning on competing in MMA and Chinese Boxing (Sanda). Or at least, I'd like to and will do what I can to do so. Not sure if it'll be possible though. Also, there's a 66kg weight class for powerlifters, even though I'm not sure about its name. Could be worth giving it a shot in a couple years. I would've also loved to compete and represent my University, but there are no sports I love/am good enough at.
About my goals, it sure will take some time, especially on a cut, but I won't be cutting forever. As soon as I reach about 65kgs, I'll stop cutting and will resume eating 3-4000cal/day (I'd need to calculate the exact amount I need to maintain that body weight considering how much I'll be working out at that moment etc).
Well, gotta go eat a lil' something before my 3-hour Sunday evening workout! (1 hour of cardio + 2 hours weightlifting)
See y'all!

I'm still going to take those starting pics, I just need to find a mirror....
I'm hopefully going to keep bulking, but I'm built similarly to you guys (193 and ~80kg right now) and I think the end result would look similar, so... In on progress pic-off.

I don't compete yet but I should start six to twelve months from now (even though my absolute priority right now is graduating). Not much can happen to you while competing in MMA (besides a broken nose and various flesh wounds). But olympic lifting can put huge amounts of stress on the spine, and a wrong movement can mean the end of everything sports related in your life forever, and like I said, my joints are weaker than they should be (even though working out really strengthened them, I still don't feel comfortable doing many things most people have no trouble doing).
The workout I did tonight was great. I just hope that not too much catabolism happened, since I'd had maybe 700cal since this morning. Had more now, though (protein shake, ...).
Why do you guys prefer splitting your body in several parts (and having like a chest/leg day, then a back day, etc) over a split routine with days exclusively for upper body and other exclusively for lower body (I usually include abs and traps with lower body because I never have enough time to do those exercises properly on upper body days) ?
|
Will taking whey isolate after a workout and having a smaller dinner afterwards be better for building lean muscle than just having a larger dinner and no protein after the workout? Or will it not make much of a difference?
