I would like Celtic and Rangers in the English league for one reason...They wouldn't be in the premiership, would be stuck in the Championship forever :D
On the note of Friendlies, i do think their important in the terms of actually getting the squads of the international teams together for games, so they get used to their manager and the way they want to play, but i see no point in having one every 3 months or so. I would think it would be better to block out a month for Internationals or ever just keep them to being played in the summer months.
If their was no international breaks through out the season, then the seasons across Europe (as an example) would finish even earlier than May. Probably the beginning of April. Thus meaning you can have a longer period to play Qualifying games and Tournaments (and Friendlies) without the risk of damaging a domestic teams aspirations of winning the Champions league or their domestic league. Would be more fun for football fans to, with the added adventures during the summer across Europe for Qualifying games or friendlies. More fans, = more money the governing bodies of the teams.
Just cannot believe this hasn't come up before, makes no sense to me.

Porto and Benfica moving to La Liga would be rather interesting, but I think part of the reason they nurture talent so well is because of the league they play in and the yearly champions league spots it brings. It's the same in the Netherlands with Ajax, the league sucks, but there is enough competition for players to become better and champions league brings that extra bit of experience that helps players make the switch to bigger sides.
On the other hand. La Liga will generate a lot more steady income than they have at moment.

From TV Revenue ALONE Benfica has been earning 8M per year due to a bad bad contract done by a even worse president that Benfica had 12 years ago. Porto makes something like 14M a year for TV Revenue. Probably this values will rise a little bit in the next years taking Benfica to something like 20M/year and Porto to something like 16M/year.
You can't compare that to the spanish league... Probably Getafe or Betis makes more than that...
Benfica and Porto would benefit A LOT by moving to a more competitive league. But i don't see that happening on a foreseeable future.
As for the players incubators that portuguese teams are, this summer wait to see James and Moutinho from Porto leave for something like 30M+ each. And pay attention to Alex Sandro, Danilo and Jackson.
For Benfica pay attention to Salvio, Matic and Garay.
These 8 players will probably move a lot of money this summer.

Good old Chelsea :D

Does anyone remember talks of an European Superleague? Whatever happened to that?

Don't forget who you are talking about here. UEFA. Just like any other big Govermently run organization, it takes them about 100 meetings spread over like 10 years before this gets introduced or even finalized.

Despite the horrible distribution of TV revenue in La Liga. I do agree Porto and Benfica would still go forward in monetary terms, as I mentioned earlier. But like Pandemona jokingly mentioned about Celtic being a championship team, I can see Porto and Benfica suffering a similar fate of mediocrity in La Liga. Currently Porto and Benfica are entry level teams for South American players and joining La Liga will make them just another La Liga team with the risk of missing out on champions league spots. Granted the extra revenue would maybe make them more competitive in Europe when they do qualify, maybe.

When Celtic boasted their bigger names, Larsson/Hartson/Keane (and others i forget ;_; ) they had the main attraction of being in the champions league and winning the league every year, it makes a more appetizing appeal to some, and still has a big advertisement on them in the champions league, ala Hooper for Celtic atm is a much wanted star striker.
Exactly. I don't think the reality will play out as much as these teams hope it would.

Maybe I will quote this post in 10 years when Barcelona are stripped of their titles but that would be ten years too long. European football has no hope, I stopped watching it after the disgrace at the Stanford Bridge and it just goes to show you what a feat and magical run it was for Chelsea to win the CL last year. I'd like to add I'm probably still under the influence of watching highlights of Ovrebo Please... So many people think like you it's disgusting. When its retarded people I dont mind but on this forum I expect participant to at least have half a brain... I'm so tired to read this kind of stuff and never answer so this time I will.
2006 finals? The justified red card followed by a canceled goal? Chelsea semi final where Barca get fucked by referee on the first leg (nobody remembers the first leg it seems)? This second game where Drogba keeps diving at every contact and then cries when actual fouls happen? Anyway people claim 4 or 5 penalties in this game when just one or two are really clear. I'm admitting it, we were really lucky, but remember why the referee never did anything in favor of Chelsea? Drogba the diva. I would have done the same as a referee.
Inter games? Please let me laugh, if someone has to complain here its Barcelona. First leg we get robbed of one goal and they score two goals that were not (one offside, one foul on Alves if I remember correctly). Second leg we score the second goal and its refused for an offside that wasnt.
Mourinho talking about Bernabeu scandal? Hahaha first it was in Barcelona that their goal was refused. Secondly they almost managed to rob us the CL and the Copa del Rey with all these red cards never given to Alonso, Pepe and co... This coach is maybe the best at what he does, but quoting him to prove a point is not helping you. Right now he's complaining about the schedule in Spain saying that Barcelona has been favoured when its the complete opposite once you look at the actual dates. Please don't listen to this moron.
People hate Barcelona so much for winning everything that they would follow any stupid stories to attack them: doping, referees helping, Unicef, Villar, Platini... When people will understand that a referee's job is about decision making, and that this is far more complicate when 10,000 retards are yelling at you, well, maybe they will understand that sometimes you're favoured, sometimes you're unlucky, in the end it balances itself. I love la Liga but sometimes when I see the defenders raising their hands to signal an offside when the attacking player is 5m onside its just painful.

It better not be true. Fucking hate Bayern so much. Ruining German football and turning it into the same crap we see in La Liga. European football really needs to think about salary caps like we have here in the U.S., so we can see some actual competition.

Benfica currently has revenue at the levels of Valencia. Stadium of 65k. More supporters than probably any club in Spain bar Barcelona and Real. I don't see why Benfica or Porto wouldn't get champions league spots. Either way, if you merge the championships then the right thing to do would be to combine the access spots for Europe.

Well if you merged the champions league spots, thats unfair on the likes of Sporting Lisbon and Braga.
Valencia and Atletico Madrid are pretty well followed in La Liga so i wouldn't put yourself as right up their in that sense. But when you move leagues you take out the gurantee of Champions league football. La Liga from 3rd place and down is very competitive. I would not say Porto and Benfica would jump straight into the top 4. Especially this season for example. Do you think Benfica and Porto could push Real Madrid and Malaga out of the way for the 3rd and 4th champions league spot?
