I don't see why Benfica or Porto wouldn't get champions league spots. Either way, if you merge the championships then the right thing to do would be to combine the access spots for Europe. ![]() Benfica's revenue is pretty darn high for the league they play in. Quite amazed, I assumed it would be similar to Porto but clearly I was wrong. Benfica would most likely profit from this deal as the move would most likely make them the third club in Spain/Iberia. Porto's revenue, on which I based my opinion, hovers around 58 to 70 mln during the last couple years, which puts them around the same level as Stoke City or Espanyol. Without champions league this number would be (estimate based on numbers from swiss ramble) 20% lower so without this Porto are in fact poorer than Stoke and Espanyol

I would think it would be better to block out a month for Internationals or ever just keep them to being played in the summer months. If their was no international breaks through out the season, then the seasons across Europe (as an example) would finish even earlier than May. Probably the beginning of April. Thus meaning you can have a longer period to play Qualifying games and Tournaments (and Friendlies) without the risk of damaging a domestic teams aspirations of winning the Champions league or their domestic league. Would be more fun for football fans to, with the added adventures during the summer across Europe for Qualifying games or friendlies. More fans, = more money the governing bodies of the teams. Just cannot believe this hasn't come up before, makes no sense to me. True, and clubs would be less worried about a player getting injured in an international game, since they'd have the rest of the summer to repair him. Although the last year before the WC or EC would be tricky; it'd be more difficult to include new players for coaches as they'd only get very limited amounts of playtime before the cup. Injuries in the spring could also be disastrous.

The better and more competitive the championships, the more money there is for the participating clubs and leagues. They wont be competing against the PL for global attention. The el classico can sure, but really nothing else. The english coverage of the PL in leagues across their biggest emerging markets in asia (well i say emerging its already a bigger market) in particular and to some degree the US is so far ahead of any other league including Spain it would take years even if the league was competitive. The PL has a decade headstart. Back in the late 90's when satellite tv start becoming a a household thing in subcontinantal and east asia its Murdochs Star network that you get to thank for anyone who knows about european football. And you know what you got to see ? One la liga game and one Seria A game a week, with shit commentary. Enter year 2000 CL and the PL exploded with coverage. They have a decades headstart, its English and the fanbase already have their domino effects rolling for new fans and people who take a fancy to. More people knew about La liga teams in 2003-4 and prior then they do now, and its not really because La Liga teams are bad.

Yeah but if the regular seasons finishes 4-6 weeks earlier, then you have an extra 2 weeks on top of that before a World Cup/Euro Competition would start anyway. As you get 2 weeks prep for a Euros and World Cup so i think that should be fine. Get the players together for a week, have a friendly, have another week of training, then a qualifying game if there was no World Cup/Euro, if there is, have another friendly then go into the World Cup/Euro. Don't understand why this way have never been thought of before, makes no sense to me. I mean why would football fans in the middle of the season want to go away to watch an international friendly on a random Wednesday? Ala Brazillians want to travel all the way to London to see England vs Brazil, in all honestly not even their first teams.

I remember seeing Liverpool themed scooter bikes on sale in Thailand and alleged Man Utd sponsorship in every consumer good product imaginable. I'm not sure that's true in arab countries (I have an idea they follow the Spanish league closer) or Latin America. Even assuming the English league is ahead, that doesn't mean it'll stay so forever. I think the Mourinho+Ronaldo move to Spain marked a clear turning point. Adding Portuguese clubs, La Liga would get a more viewers from Brazil, former PT colonies in Africa, and Latin America where most Benfica+Porto players hail from.

Spain and Portugal are different countrys, they will have their own league. There is no more to talk. I would add too that in Football (only in Football) people in Spain generally hate portuguese players, because Pepe, Mourinho and Cristiano, mainly. I suppose that it is something temporal until Pepe go out of Spain.

I only support them because my mother did. I missed out on the glory days, and now i have to put up with this constant shit. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21339472 Why can't people understand that you might need to know something about the english game and how football works in this country before you go taking over our beloved football teams. What a fucking mess.

I was happy for Super Mario because it seems like he needed a change of scenery more than anyone, but he still has to be in the middle of the tabloids. It's sad that this isn't getting more attention, because it's quite despicable.

When its retarded people I dont mind but on this forum I expect participant to at least have half a brain... I'm so tired to read this kind of stuff and never answer so this time I will. 2006 finals? The justified red card followed by a canceled goal? Chelsea semi final where Barca get fucked by referee on the first leg (nobody remembers the first leg it seems)? This second game where Drogba keeps diving at every contact and then cries when actual fouls happen? Anyway people claim 4 or 5 penalties in this game when just one or two are really clear. I'm admitting it, we were really lucky, but remember why the referee never did anything in favor of Chelsea? Drogba the diva. I would have done the same as a referee. Inter games? Please let me laugh, if someone has to complain here its Barcelona. First leg we get robbed of one goal and they score two goals that were not (one offside, one foul on Alves if I remember correctly). Second leg we score the second goal and its refused for an offside that wasnt. Mourinho talking about Bernabeu scandal? Hahaha first it was in Barcelona that their goal was refused. Secondly they almost managed to rob us the CL and the Copa del Rey with all these red cards never given to Alonso, Pepe and co... This coach is maybe the best at what he does, but quoting him to prove a point is not helping you. Right now he's complaining about the schedule in Spain saying that Barcelona has been favoured when its the complete opposite once you look at the actual dates. Please don't listen to this moron. People hate Barcelona so much for winning everything that they would follow any stupid stories to attack them: doping, referees helping, Unicef, Villar, Platini... When people will understand that a referee's job is about decision making, and that this is far more complicate when 10,000 retards are yelling at you, well, maybe they will understand that sometimes you're favoured, sometimes you're unlucky, in the end it balances itself. I love la Liga but sometimes when I see the defenders raising their hands to signal an offside when the attacking player is 5m onside its just painful. This needs to be once on every page ![]()
