I hope so, that would at least make a bit of sense. Still I do wish a manager would have made more of an effort. He only has 8(!) caps, it feels like he was never given a real chance. He was never a huge international star due to being over looked a lot in the squads. England at the time had the forward options (Shearer,Sherringham,Owen), and were a solid 4-4-2 team. That leaves him to play CM, which would of been instead of Batty/Scholes/Anderton and he wouldn't of got in over any of those 3. Right midfield was Beck's spot, so he couldn't of played their, then its a case of Merson and McManaman on the LW/Attacking Mid options for the last spot. He just never fitted in, and wasn't give a chance in many friendlies to prove himself. His only "real" international match was a hat trick vs Russia B whilst playing for England B. After failing to get into the world cup 98 squad, he never got back to his best after that summer either, so was never given another chance. Prior to that again we still had a young (ish) Paul Merson, Darren Anderton, Batty, McManaman, David Beckham and a 23 year old Paul Scholes! England for once had a world class array of talent in the midfield area.

These games include World Cup and European Championship qualifiers and two UEFA Champions League games, one of which was in England according to UEFA. Europol's chief Rob Wainwright said the investigation uncovered "match fixing activity on a scale we have not seen before." Wainwright revealed the probe uncovered around £7million in betting profits and £1.27m in bribes to players and officials and has already led to several prosecutions. The investigation identified about 425 corrupt officials, players and serious criminals in 15 countries and 50 arrests have been made so far. Wainwright also stated that the involvement of organised crime "highlights a big problem for the integrity of football in Europe" with Asian gambling cartels identified as part of the match fixing operation. It was not immediately clear how many of the matches mentioned have been revealed in previous match fixing investigations at a national level in countries including Germany and Italy. It looks pretty bad indeed. Most interesting part will be how FIFA defends the referees now.

Or maybe the Chelsea - Barca semi ? It could be a lot of different games, even lower league games (like in Germany apparently).Guess we'll have to be patient since they won't give names due to ongoing investigations. This week is gonna be awful for football, with Fuentes trial and doping accusations here and there in Spain

I hope UEFA/FIFA will agree on better rules. 1. 90 min actual playtime, with clock-stopping. In a regular Match the netto playtime is now 60 minutes for europes top leagues. 2.Video ref for offside or goal line. 3. Referee ratings/penalties for bad/worng decisions. In germany the consecutive four-times worst ref (voted by players) was still allowed to attend his job, then he tried to kill himself.

There are zero quotes to actually prove that he wants to go back and is 'waiting for the phonecall'. Actually its just what one reporter hopes will happen, and its disguised as fact. How weird.

That would require an entirely different level of fitness from the players, i don't think it would ever happen 2. Agreed, its just common sense. 3. I think this is a terrible idea. I'll leave it to cloughie to explain: Ratings, maybe, but certainly they would have to remain private. Penalizing a referee for making a bad decision infers that referees are expected to make the right decision 100% of the time, which obviously is impossible.

Is just never going to work and I actually rather like the current rule. As a spectator it means I know what I'm getting myself into. 2. If you mean a camera that follows the offside line, than definitely. But no video replays for offsides. I've recently been watching some of the American sports and it just bothered the hell out of me just how many interruptions there were. It made me understand why some people wouldn't want technology in the game to be honest.

UEFA and FIFA are so stubborn there probably won't be a lot of change.

Example would be first throw-in, first foul, first yellow card etc.etc. It takes much less notice and is not much of an influence on an entire game. So first yellow card for example you can bribe a ref. First throw-in you can bribe a player that receives the ball after kick-off. How often do you see the player to receive the ball to randomly cross it over the line 'apparently to reach a runner at the line' after kick-off? And it happens more in lower leagues anyway because player/refs earn less money there so it's easier/cheaper to bribe them and dumb mistakes like kicking the ball over the line are less suspicious. I think only 1% of these scandals ever come to light.

Also...AMG Mourinho coming back :O...I can suffer Rafa for another 4 months aslong as the Special one walks back through the Stamford Bridge door <3 (Every paper has lead with that story today, that Mourinho is on his way back to the Bridge!!) Sky Sports say it is 380 matches!! These games include World Cup and European Championship qualifiers and two UEFA Champions League games, one of which was in England according to UEFA. Europol's chief Rob Wainwright said the investigation found "match fixing activity on a scale we have not seen before". Wainwright also stated that the involvement of organised crime "highlights a big problem for the integrity of football in Europe" with Asian gambling cartels identified as part of the match fixing operation. Wainwright would not reveal the identity of the Champions League match staged in England under suspicion due to "ongoing judicial proceedings" - but he did confirm it had taken place in the last three to four years and admitted England was not a country under particular scrutiny. He said: "The focus has been on other countries, not the United Kingdom. However we were surprised by the scale generally of the criminal enterprise and just how widespread it was. "It would be naive and complacent of those in the UK to think such a criminal conspiracy does not involve the English game and all the football in Europe." Europol also found another 300 questionable games outside Europe, mainly in Africa, Asia, South and Central America. A UEFA spokesman confirmed they would co-operate with the investigation. He said: "We will be liaising with Europol in relation to any reports of match fixing in European competition."
