People here bemoaning the trade are speaking through a very flawed and prejudiced lense - understand football and organizational theory and you will understand Tebow to the Jets makes perfect sense. It was a pure football move.
Listen to Bill Polian (yes that Bill Polian - the former GM of the Colts who built the Peyton Manning era, the 6 time NFL Executive of the Year winner, and easily among the greatest football personnel men of all time) - he agrees this is a perfect fit. Tebow should not be the starter, but instead utilized in special offense packages, especially in the red zone and short yardage goal line scenarios. Read options on goal lines are notoriously difficult to stop.
Let Sanchez and his fragile ego and serviceable but limited abilities take care of the base offense. Sanchez can move the chains. Switch in Tebow on specials (options and wildcats). And on the occasions where Sanchez falters late, put in Tebow and see what magic he performs. And remember, the Jets will be (again) a defense first, ball control team. You don't need to put up gaudy offensive numbers to win.
If you're a Jets fan, you should be rejoicing at the possibilities. All this still has to get executed, and no doubt the media circus and locker room egos have to be managed, but the prospects are very intriguing.
And it was the height of irony and hypocrisy for Joe Namath to come out and proclaim the trade little more than a "publicity stunt". Says the walking publicity stunt disguised as a human being.
The wildcat has quickly reverted back to being mostly useless because teams have seen it so much thanks to the Dolphins and a host of other teams. The other thing is that going into a wildcat formation makes it pretty obvious what is happening, and teams can stack the box. If there is a way to utilize Tebow, it would be to train him as a FB/HB/TE and do a lot of shotgun with him, Sanchez and Green back there. That becomes a whole lot less predictable than the wildcat, and allows him to either run, catch or throw in a more disguised package. While there is potential for some success there, the baggage that comes with tebow is what makes this ridiculous. It's all but certainty that there is a controversy at some point this season the first time that Sanchez has even a mediocre team, the notorious NY media will smell blood in the water and be all over that, and so will the fans. There's already division in the locker room over this, and that lockeroom was already cancerous last year with that retard Holmes. And while there certainly is some football merit here, make no mistake that this is absolutely definitely part publicity move. Tebow jerseys fly off the shelves, he draws eyes that do not normally watch. Playing in the shadow of the NYG, especially off of a SB year, they definitely need that. Overall, I think the baggage that comes with Tebow is really not worth what he can potentially bring to the field. If the Jets had a more firmly entrenched starter, maybe it would be a different story. But Sanchez is gonna get dogged from day one, and he's a much, much better option than Tebow, and it will divide the locker room.
Nice post. Very balanced and I don't necessarily disagree. It's a judgement call and I think it can work for the Jets. In fact, I will go so far as to say that it WILL work for the Jets - on the field. Tebow will be an effective part of the Jets' offense, that's my prediction. But the concern you've highlighted regarding locker room drama is a legitimate one. No one on the planet knows at this point how things will work out in that regard. Nonsense in the locker room can easily derail the best laid plans.
I'm pulling for this trade to work. I'm not necessarily a fan of either Tebow or the Jets, but I do pull for the perennial underachievers (Jets) and I am a supporter of what Tebow represents - not his squeaky clean image, not his piety, but that he's different and that with the right system and supports there will always be more than one way to skin the proverbial cat. That's not a football truism, that's just life.
Will you "Tebow" if on balance the Tebow trade works out and he contributes in a significant way to the Jets' upcoming season?

What do you mean tebow on balance??
I think based on what they traded for him, it won't take a whole lot of production to get their value's worth in a vacuum. If they play him as some kind of H-back who occasionally throws the ball and he picks up a few hundred hards in all facets, they've done good.
I just see no way this doesn't end up as a huge issue over the course of the season with the on and off games that Sanchez has, and I would be amazed if Tebow had success if he became the starter.
On that note, I havent' seen much besides a report that the Jets were now looking to trade Drew Stanton (the 2nd stringer dude), but I assume that Tebow becomes the defacto #2??

Taneumbom said in an interview that tebow is now the the #2 which is one the reasons why stanton wants out.

Tebow is already the defacto #2. The Jets GM went on air and declared it yesterday (maybe 2 days ago). He also basically admitted he promised the #2 gig to Stanton but when Tebow became available he went back on his word. Stanton as a result has already put in his trade request.

Sucks for Stanton. I always thought he was someone who could pan out to be an ok starter if given a shot.

Putting aside how we would define "success", I am asking whether you will Tebow if he had success as the starter for the NY Jets (assuming he becomes one)?

... and speaking of Stanton, looks like he's going to the Colts. A whole bunch of industry "experts" will have egg on their collective face if Luck turns out to be a bust in Indy (assume they will pick Luck over RG3). But Stanton will be one very happy dude. Best wishes.

Are you asking if Hawk will post a picture of himself "Tebow"-ing if Tebow has success as a Jets starter? Or are you missing a couple words here? Thats the best I can make from this post.

Dolphinsfag here.
Miami ran the wildcat to death into the Pats until it never worked again. The Pats have dissected that formation and are experts at stopping it, and Miami used it effectively in the NFL so if the Jets think this "Tbone" package will work great theyve got 4 very bad games ahead of them.
Also, the Broncos have a very, very friendly and helpful team. A team Tebow needs to be on in the NFL to succeed because his success isnt instant. NY is the last place to be to find friendly and helpful players. Best of luck Tebow.

Sparano's a smart coach and adjustments will be made. Tebow also adds a different dimension to the wildcat. Will be interesting to see how wildcat 2.0 goes.

for now, all tebow can bring is a wildcat back who is a slightly better passer. his work ethic would have me believe that he is capable of being a really good starting qb in the nfl, but i think he would need multiple offseasons with the same team/coaching staff to get there. unfortunately for him, i think he'll be traded around for the next couple years as a wildcat back/backup qb. he'll never truly learn an offense, and therefore never really have a chance to start again anywhere.

Tim Tebow went to the patriots!!!!!!

honestly its great for both parties. Tebow doesn't have to deal with questions about "Why aren't you starting?" and can have one of the best QBs in football as a mentor, and since the Patriots would need a miracle to win without Brady, who better to deliver a miracle than Tebow?

Someone just updated this thread and I choke on a norwegian thingy ...

Watching Bill Belichick do the interview regarding Tim Tebow's signing was hilarious.
