Yeah, but it's cool seeing a brand new Fantasy setting without just being "Lord of the Rings, but with a twist". The recent narrative developments have been really good too, if you're bored and want to read some of the short stories leading up to the new Death army that's coming out, you can find a bunch here: https://malignportents.com/stories/ While there aren't as many named Heroes or nations to follow, the factions and Gods I think make a fairly interesting backdrop that you fill in with your own narrative and army. I've already started naming some of my Stormcast models :D Edit: also the game itself is really good, so that helps a lot. I can totally believe that the game is way better. I played Warhammer fantasy for years. I flew cross country just to go to tournaments. It can be fun but its not really a good game, it's gamey and random and playing it well often requires you to be a super douchey rules lawyer and purposefully do shit that you know is unintended or that flies in the face of the lore of whatever you're playing. Also it's expensive as ungodly fuck. But for me I really like the lore and stories, even though they're just "hey guys, how can we rip off every single thing we can think of". They're fun in a goofy innocent sort of way. I watched a review where somebody said the entire point of age of Sigmar was getting the universe to a point where they could reasonably change the names of the races so that they could get more control of their copyright and wouldn't have to put up with third party figure manufacturers making generic elves and them showing up in armies without it being a copyright violation. That's really what it seemed like to me. I'm sure the game is better though. I'd totes be down to play it some day. But I'm also glad that they're keeping the original alive through all the PC games.

I'm just a tad miffed, I know I shouldn't expect GitS level of cyperpunk but the premise opened up with concepts that while they aren't unique are still interesting enough that warrant some comparison with GitS.

Haven't had it die on me yet, and generally last 16+hour days of relatively heavy use with 25+% left. It runs pretty snappy in power saver mode too, and there the battery lasts ages.

I think I'm just gonna get a Moto G6. I've read good reviews and it costs *far* less.

Eh, that's the really cynical way to think about it. I'm sure copyright played a large part in the decision making process, but they treat the lore quite well and the new factions and races seem quite interesting. It also gave them more creative freedom to try new things. The Old World was pretty set in stone, so suddenly creating a new army with their own aesthetic and background would have felt out of place or in some places, impossible. It's just a big shift from traditional, familiar fantasy to super "drawn on the side of a van" high-fantasy.

The total war guys have run out of factions from tabletop to add and presumably are now working on lore-only factions, and they still have something like a dozen they can add in. Maybe I don't really understand what the new age of Sigmar armies are, but from what I gathered the only really new one is just space Marines in fantasy. That's why it feels at the end of the day like some board exec was all "space Marines sell really well. How can we get space Marines into fantasy?"

Except that Space Marines were just "Hey, Chaos Warriors sell really well, how can we get Chaos Warriors in space and make more money?" a long time ago, but it's all like poetry and repeats. They probably could have made it work. But 30+ years in the same setting with very little change to the status quo is pretty rough. Heck, even 40k went through their own mini-End Times with the Fall of Cadia and The Thirteenth Black Crusade, because every so often you need to turn the world on its head. Either way, I had no interest in WHFB lore. I've actually bought AoS novels. It works for me.

And Wood Elves had chariots. I had a wood elf army with 4 chariots where I'd taken high elf chariots and greenstuffed them into wood elf chariots and then put wood elves in them and then instead of making a wood elf chariot model they took them out of the army list altogether and little Ketara was butthurt :E.

So about a month ago I had a real harsh panic attack. I pretty much fainted at home, felt like I was having heart palpitations and I'd legit die. And honestly, part of me wouldn't have minded. I went to my doctor and opened up. Got diagnosed with severe anxiety and clinical depression. Been on antidepressants since. Started seeing a therapist and a psychologist. As I was told, it's been a crazy month. Total rollercoaster as my hormones have adjusted. Honestly probably had the worst couple days I've ever had. But I noticed today that for the first time in my entire life, I am just... alive. Just living. All my anxiety hasn't been bothering me all night. I don't have my self conscious screaming irrational falsehoods about myself. I just... o just am. I feel like I just left a rock concert where i was wearing a 150 lb vest and kaleidoscope glasses. I just see the world. The world is so beautiful and serene. I've spent all night just sitting on the porch listening to the crickets and wind chimes, watching the city deafened stars, and feeling the warmth of the night. The world is gorgeous, and it's been here the whole time. This is honestly the happiest I can remember being, and nothing is even going my way, I'm just not slogging through depression and anxiety. I feel like a million bucks.

That is awesome to hear man. There can be a stigma with a lot of those things but they're so helpful for people who need the help. Thanks for sharing and it's encouraging to hear how much you are enjoying life ![]()

The way he describes how he finally got out of it after awhile was him sitting at home, doing nothing, when something mundane happened (I don't remember the details, along the lines of a ball falling from a table and rolling on the floor iirc?) that made him laugh. He had no idea why he found it funny, or why that in particular, or even why he laughed to begin with. But he was finding it funny, he was feeling something. After being cloistered and unable to relate with the world or his thoughts or anything, he was feeling again, rediscovering it in the process, and lighting the world with his whole renewed perspectives. He also said that it was only the first step and he wasn't done yet at that point obviously, but that was how it started for him: rediscovering/recovering what he kinda knew was always there. I don't know if it feels similar for you? Your last paragraph reminded me of that.

On June 08 2018 09:49 killerdog wrote: wait LOL They actually rewrote their entire lore? That's pretty funny Yes and no. The Old World still exists as history, now known as The World That Was. Most of the big characters from Warhammer Fantasy are now Gods and legends. The End Times were just that - Chaos won (because fucking Mannfred), The Old World blew up, and then coalesced into realms of magic, while those legends were reborn with a new purpose. A lot of things are still the same - Dwarves are grumpy and love digging and gold. Elves are selfish dicks. Chaos wants to screw everything over. But now the setting is insanely massive and we've already been through a few time jumps, seeing cities and nations rise in the wake of Sigmar's victory, while the recent story destroyed many alliances and bastions as Nagash exerted his power over death in a huge, Realm spanning spell known as the Necroquake. It's been really interesting to follow imo.

Or did they just rename everything but change nothing else.
