Looks like just reprinting everything outside of reserved list. Pretty cool stuff.

AV got printed nice! Chalice is def must, that card is insanely expensive and all over the place.

At the same time, it seems exactly like the thing I'd expect old out of touch religious people with a chip on their shoulder to do.

I failed last week, probably due to relative inexperience with a draft format that's been out for months and a fairly competitive store I'd never been to before.

Gonna try again tonight but hopes aren't super high.

Same, both times getting it as the very last card (since we roll the dice, both pod winners had one and leftover 8 were rolled amongst the 12 other players).

The draft itself made me rage pretty hard to caution, explicit language and stuff.
+ Show Spoiler +
Pod of 6, coulda been 8 but 2 people came too late.

I'm basically monoW pack 1 (with 3 deserts including wheeling the unco), with a couple G or U cards but nothing exciting. There wasn't much G aside from a pick 4 ritualist maybe, and B looked open but the cards weren't great (P1P1 Dreamstealer, I could have picked a Torment of Venom p2 but went with Sinuous Striker after hesitating). I also passed 2 Unquenchable Thirsts for Desert's Hold and the Striker so in a 6-man pod it's a risk.
There is a lot of red (a pack was monoR with 4 cards left) but I haven't picked any, and only really saw Khenra Scrappers and an early Inferno Jet as the best cards, nothing to pull me.

P2P1 is Kefnet's Last Word over Ambuscade. I really hesitate but figure the bomb is worth it over G being potentially more open.
I proceed to receive no G at all but a fuckton of B, to the point that quantity-wise I could switch, with a Torment, Lethal Sting, Curse of Scarabs, a couple Scroungers, a Merciless Eternal, etc.
I try and stick to U and I get some decent W with it, mostly flyers, and a decent but not great amount of blue.

Pack 3 I see a bunch of medium G and a fuckton of Black again. Passing Splendid Agony and Cartouche feels super bad as these cards are excellent againt what I've picked, and it looks like a BW removal deck would have been stronger if I'd switched pack 2, 'cept pack 1 had no B so how the fuck could I expect to receive all this?!
I also notice there's a lot less W but at least I get a late Gustwalker.

What is that people were, on the table:
BWg zombies - UW mill/approach - BR removal
Jund "ramp" - UGx ramp - UW tempo (me)

From the sits it's obvious that I should logically have been green, but garbage packs aside from my neighbours and the ritualist means that I could never move into it, and by pack 2 two people side-to-side meant I got nothing.
From the cards received I should have been black, but that's only because people picked very strangely. I should never have seen Cartouche and Splendid Agony that were opened to the other side of the table. They actually wheeled because the jund player picked stuff I believe he didn't even play out of these packs instead since his deck was almost excluisvely HOU.
And the UW guy moved into W during pack 2 and screwed me over for a ton of cards (he was red with Hour of Devastation, then opened Crested Sunmare and moved to W). He didn't even have 10 creatures without splashing in the end, but he still picked a W Trial pack 3 with only 8 creatures at the time and got me the 3-drop embalm guy instead.
Zombies let a Binding Mummy get to me because he decided to splash Rhonas.

My draft was very underwhelming because I lacked removal and had too many 2/2s or X/1s, I had a ton of combos (Vizier of Tumbling Sands / Dauntless Aven + Steward of Solidarity / Gust Walker, the 3-drop that gets back 2-drops, Aerial Guide, U Cartouche on stuff like the lifelink camel of vigilance embalm guy... ) but they were all with cmc 3 cards so I couldn't get them online on curve with could easily make my clock a whole 2 turns slower (flying is huge with these weak bodies), and very vulnerable to any kind of removal... which I didn't have because pack 3 sucked for that, not a single Impeccable Timing or Pacifism.
And I obviously got fucked over by pack 1 being so poor in green I couldn't actually notice it was open at my sit (pack 2 was huge in it, they basically both made their decks off it), and by the guy opening the Sunmare and moving in... he only had Crypt of the Eternal and God-Pharaoh's Faithful picked to activate it ffs!

Round 1 vs BWg Rhonas
+ Show Spoiler +
He's got removal and I've got 2/2s, so he wins game 1.
Then game 2 he goes 2-drop -> Rhonas, but can't risk racing me because he can't develop his board while paying for an activation and I luck into a couple flyers.
Game 3 I resist using Desert's Hold on a 5/4 first strike lifelink camel, and am rewarded by playing it on Rhonas when it comes down and Saving Grace on a 1/3 to lose nothing when I triple block the camel (I'm lucky he didn't have removal). I start slowly pinging him in the air and force removal on Gustwalker to reduce the clock, because I'm at 5 life or something. 5/5 hexproof stabilises the board and my 1/6 can bounce his Steadfast Sentinel without letting him eternalize it.
He ends up drawing Unraveling Mummy and has a 3/3 flyer to my 2/2, so I may have to chump soon, but he attacks with the Sentinel without less than 6 mana available to I kill it, drop to 2, crack Shefet Dunes and win.
1-0 I got lucky he lacked removal in game 3 'cause I saw most of my good cards, and Desert's Hold was clutch.

Round 2 vs jund "ramp" garbage pile
The source of my rage. That same fucking guy as the one last week who won off a t4 Scaled Behemoth despite having only 3 ways to ramp in his entire deck, and me staying on 2 and 3 lands of a single colour for 2 games, yay for nuts draws.
+ Show Spoiler [warning: SwiftRage] +
So today what does he play? Well he took more ramp, but he's only got 3 ramp targets, including a Bitterbow Sharphooters, and he's got no removal. Because he's going straight 3c for Torment of Venom and Stinger (he's got fixing: 2 Evolving Wilds, a Ritualist, a Beneath the Sands, a Spring // Mind, but he's splashing for double-costs even if he has 2x Hope Tender and a Vitalist). That's a fucking pile of a deck that can chump a couple turns but needs him to draw one of his 3 cards to actually start doing stuff.

So game 1 he casually draws his ramp and drops Scaled Behemoth turn 4 off a single forest, then Chaos Maw once I'm threatening lethal, and because I brick 3 turns in a row on lands he wins. I would have killed him or forced a chump if he hadn't topdecked Sharpshooters for my flyers on that exact turn tho.
Game 2 he doesn't have his ramping 2-drops in hand and since he doesn't have removal when I get Dauntless Aven + Gustwalker I clock him fast enough to just ignore him dropping 12 power on board. He complains that he drew his ramp creatures turn 3 and 4—well tough luck, if you want them so bad mulligan?—especially since I had chump blockers so a single turn wouldn't have saved him.

Game 3 he avoids getting trounced again by playing his P2P1 Grind // Dust on Gutwalker + Dauntless Aven (do note that his only W source is the ritualist and he thought he was BG when he picked it), sure run some random rares that fit perfectly against my deck when you could have played Splendid Agony instead if you're gonna be B without W.
He draws a bunch of lands and argues that he's got a ton on the field—no fucking shit Sherlock, you play more than 16 of them and used Spring + both evolving wilds, of course your board+yard has more lands than mine! And don't take note that you're at 11 and me at 15 because my only W source is the painland in my starting hand and I'm only drawing my W spells, so I hurt myself that much just to get there and can't play 2 spells a turn with 6 mana.
Since his creatures are shit outside of the 3 ramp targets, I punch him a bunch and am ready to push lethal. He topdecks Scaled Behemoth and plays it, blocking my ground creatures and saving himself from lethal.
I hit with my flyers, play Aerial Guide and next turn between recurred Gustwalker, the Guide, and the Mighty Leap in my hand I can have all my creatures fly over for more than lethal.
Don't worry, empty handed he topdecks Chaos Maw and wipes my board then hits.
So I steal the Maw with Kefnet's Last Word to have a blocker. It'd still be exact lethal with Leap next turn, if not for the fact that he's got a 6/7 to my 6/6, I'm at exactly 6 life, and I don't have another trick in hand, so he's denying me the win by either one point of P (or T) or life, how fucking convenient.
I'm also sitting on Hour of Revelation since almost the start of the game but no fucking plains in sight so I can't just wipe him and steal whatever medium-size stuff he plays next to kill him.
So tries to kill, trades the creature for my trick, plays something to block with (Stinger). I force the Stinger to chump, he topdecks Decimator Beetle (one of these cards that made me think "yeah I should have been B, I'd have splashed that too") so I have to lose the shrinked maw to double-block it next turn.
He's desperate, and goes to cast Survive to shuffle the libraries.
Over the next couple of turns he topdecks sunset pyramid, then Torment of Venom when I have an Aven of Enduring Hope threatening a 2-turn clock and, while I again have lethal with Riverwinder + Mighty Leap in hand, he topdecks Sharpshooters with the very last sunset pyramid draw and an empty hand so he can chump the lethal attack. And I can't attack on the ground either to bait him since he went super wide with all his 1/2 and 1/3 shitters.

The game ends in a draw because ironically, I gained too much life from redrawing Aven of Enduring Hope, and eternalizing Suncourge Champion, for him to try and kill me (he was playing super passive after his first 3 topdecks didn't win him the game, poor boy). With Saving Grace in hand I'd have killed the Sharpshooters on blocks without dying, then killing him next turn by flying.
Or, you know, since mister fucking pile over there topdecked the only card left in his pile that blocked flyers (especially hexproof flyers), I could have topdecked any of the 4 cards that'd let me win on the spot. Nope.
1-0-1
He played super loose, trying to play 2 green dorks on turn 4 with a single mountain, not exiling his aftermath cards when he used them (he shuffled Struggle // Survive back in his deck and I had to remind him), getting blown out by every single one of my tricks even when he'd seen them before.
But I guess it doesn't fucking matter when you literally topdeck 3 times in the same game to save yourself from 100% lethal!
He's played ramp both drafts, last week he had a bunch of expensive cards but almost no ramp and won 2 matches via mana issues (I saw their round 1, the other guy had an as good or better deck but flooded (as in lands > spells) twice, then me getting stuck on 2 then 3 lands when he gets his magical christmas land hands of 2-of-3 ramp cards + payoff and drawing into Hashep Oasis + Excavator in the next 3 draw steps), and this week he's got a ton of ramp, too much for his land count actually, and only 3 pay-offs (Behemoth, Maw, Sharpshooters, nothing else was bigger than his single Ritualist or the Soul Stinger) but he topdecks like a fucking champ again.
That kind of sick joke is getting me tired (along with last draft where I'm RW, round 2 play v t2 Hoopoe twice, first game flood and he has a bounce spell in hand for my first 4 removal thrown at the hoopoe, game 2 I'm stuck on 2 lands and don't play; meanwhile I look at "moved into W which wasn't open because of a P2P6 Sunmare, have only 3 ways to gain life in the entire pool and one requires a desert, out of 5 games played have the horse + a way to gain life in the starting hand" smug braggard have the gall of whining when he loses because his 3 topdecks in a row to not straight die weren't enough—but obviously his ending first is a testament to his kill in drafting and playing).

Round 3 vs BR mono-removal + Scorpion God
+ Show Spoiler +
Not much to say. He plays removal so he can kill my creatures and then later on he plays 4/2 or 5/4 menace or 5/4-put-a-counter and I'm still playing 3/3s.
I win game 1 despite him playing the god because he refused to use Lethal Sting on Sunscourge Champion with a U cartouche earlier, and we race... but I have other flyers and tricks, and with embalm creatures in the yard he decides to spend all his mana killing my Binding Mummy rather than alpha to force a chump, not leaving him with enough blockers to win. Retrospectively by the last turn he couldn't win anymore, but he should have won that game.
Game 2 is a slaughter where I don't get to keep anything on the board with Fervent Paincaster killing about half my creature pool by itself, and about half when combined with any stray -1/-1 counter; game 3 he 2-for-1s himself a couple times (2x Blur of Blades on a lifelink Camel) but a 5/4 with his incidental burn is too fast a clock, and the Merciless Javelineer he followed up with kinda means I'll lose 2 creatures for a card in his hand if I try blocking with everything.
Ridiculously hard match-up from the start and I didn't get to draft removal so I went in with no expectations.
1-1-1

I'm pretty mad and disappointed because the draft wasn't fun (too all over the place, and annoying when I understood that the colour for my sit was so mediocre pack 1 I was condemned to share my colours with others; also that the one colour I had signals for pack 1 somebody switched and forced after opening a build-around pack 2, and he ended up with a shit deck having to splash to reach 23 cards, while cutting me of cards he ended up not even playing), and my deck wasn't fun either. Not enough interaction, too weak to random shit, and the way things curved I couldn't actually leverage my synergies the way my archetype wanted/needed.

I really dislike W in HOU. I know people like it, but I end up in that or G more often than I'd want (I dislike GW because you get into board stalls very easily and Ambuscade are fought for too much for you to run actual removal unless noone plays G, so even cards that reward you for going wide like Overcome and Appeal // Authority end up being the cards you need to finish the game, rather than powerful finishers that act as rewards).
All of W's creatures are super fragile, and they have potential synergies that get disrupted way too easily (unless you somehow get multiples of Dauntless Aven) by random pings or kill spells. If you get enough flyers and stuff like Farm // Market or Gift of Strength you can compete but it's pretty boring to play and feels like it's reliant on tempo which gets too easily disrupted by the aforementioned frailty of the creatures.
Meanwhile I haven't been able to draft BW or RG once, even when I move in early off payoffs there's always someone else forcing zombies ahead, or green is super open (minus ambuscade) but B isn't good enough to move into and they cut everything else but white.

That makes the drafts pretty boring to me after awhile, I don't get much variety and I dislike the archetypes they leave open.

In short I'm salty as fuck and mad after people picking like shit and/or having dumb luck making up for it when I watch their games.

To be honest, at that point I just like Amonkhet better than Hour. Maybe in hindsight I'll think they're equal or Hour is better, but I'll have much better memories of Amonkhet, just because I got bad beats and variance bullshit much more often in Hour. Results-Influenced Thinking at work I guess.
I think I'll put it down to consistency: AKH was fast but you were heavily rewarded for having a streamlined deck, and assembling key pieces (either cheap "removal" for aggro to keep going, or specific interaction to stabilize in other decks) and the way blocking was unincentivized forced you to approach drafting and playing a bit differently than usual, which isn't bad.
Aside from some U pairs requesting very specific cards to work well, the format was more about red being exceedingly strong than colours being unplayable and self-correcting helped with that toward the end.

In comparison, Hour feels like it's full of gambles in the draft portion, and haymakers in games. Not every draft of course, but it happens very often and either it's kinda sad when it goes as expected on average and fails, or is infuriating when you're on the other side of that one time it works, because you've just been variance'd out.
On one hand there's no clear superior archetype (aside from pick all the bombs and green fixing, which also works more often than it should for a good format imo), but on the other that clusterfuck make it hard to have a focused draft unless you go for very specific archetypes (such as UR tempo, or BW zombies which are more about doing their own thing than reacting to the opponent).

I've also felt punished several times by people who'd switch colours in the middle of pack 2, or sometimes even at the very end or when they crack their 3rd pack, because of these gambles, the fixing, and people's perception of colours (especially when deserts can make some picks come later).
It's frustrating to no end because you had your lane, you read the signals pack 1 and cut as much as you could, but because somebody sees a card outside of your control or decides to splash/switch, your pool get extremely diluted.
Combined with the issue of the new print runs (which was already there in AKH but deserts make it relevant more often), I've sometimes seen counterpicks for the last third of the 2nd pack, and part of the 3rd, just because there's literally nothing in your normally open colours. Having pack 3 start with nothing but one mediocre card for me off a poor opening, then by the middle of the pack I see 3+ good cards in my colours and I know that I'd wheel one if I opened that pack but now it's too late, was a common occurrence.

TL;DR HOU feels like people gambling all over and sometimes ruining your lane during the draft or getting away with retarded shit that should fail 9/10 times in games, and it really doesn't feel that enjoyable.
That and some archetypes can just keel over dead at the slightest issue in tempo or mana, and it feels more frustrating than being on the wrong side of AKH's aggro.

I still don't know what you're talking about with print runs.
They haven't changed anything.

Also that's a whole lot of bitching for a guy who has two fatal pushes.

Edit: Jesus even more people this week than last. Not gonna get one this week either

Because contrary to some of them, I don't come for the pushes, tho I certainly am not complaining about them.
But I haven't had much fun for a good portion of the format, and that shit that keeps happening makes me think at some point it's not anecdotal evidence, it's something the format facilitates.
Now you'd better go and 3-0 that draft, we're putting our trust in you!

And print runs were changed, or rather they added more of them after people were able to pretty much infer which cards were picked up to pick 4 (depending on the uncommons and what was missing mostly), starting with AKH.
Which is why you sometimes have packs with a single card in two different colours. One white, one black, two deserts, four blue, three red, three green. I leave it to you to imagine my face when I cracked that and what it'd mean.

They still haven't resolved the issues entirely though because Burning-Fist Minotaur always appears with Struggle // Survive for example and that one's very noticeable due to the strength of the cards (Struggle most often but not always appears with the Minotaur tho).
The extreme colour imbalance in a lot of packs is especially noticeable/egregious because it didn't happen in Kaladesh despite all the artifacts in the packs (if you count artifacts with coloured activation costs as cards of that colour).

Alaric I think you just have a skewed impression of what a good draft is actually supposed to look like. Yes print runs are a thing. Certain cards appear more often with certain other cards. Sometimes the packs are skewed. But here's the thing: that actually doesn't fucking matter. At all.

Yeah signalling gets screwed up when that happens. That means everyone's deck ends up as a hot mess. When the packs are all over the place, on average it affects everyone equally. It may not affect everyone equally in a particular draft, but over the course of drafting at the same place week in and week out, everyone is going to get fucked over some of the time. The better drafters are the ones who can still come out with a 2-1 when they get fucked over rather than 1-2 or 0-3.

Being able to identify 2 open colors and move in is just level 1 of good drafting. Anyone can get passed 3 good white cards, 3 good blue cards, move into blue-white, and have a great draft deck. Good drafting is being able to figure out how to salvage shit decks when everything is awful. When the packs get messed up, that's when there's room for fun stuff to happen and for better drafters to distinguish themselves from worse ones. If every draft played out like your magical Christmas land draft of everyone neatly falling into 2 open colors, nobody stepping on anyone else's toes, and all the packs breaking neatly and cleanly for everyone, you would just be playing block constructed, not draft.

The best drafter in the room might lose to the worst one when the best drafter has an awful confusing seat while the worst one gets passed a block constructed deck. But over time, the best drafter is still going to have a better performance because he 2-1s his bad drafts and 3-0s his good ones while the bad player still 3-0s his good drafts but 0-3s his bad ones. It's a game of long-term EV not one-off performances. If you can't deal with that, then put simply, card games aren't for you. If you feel more at home in games where a better player just has a massive edge over variance compared to a worse player like Starcraft or Melee, then go back to that.

I feel like GW is more go-wide than exert in this format: less untapping things, or less consistent (Dauntless Aven really dies too easily, and your engines are usually deployed over 2 turns so they're kinda slow), and you have a bunch of ways to make tokens, but the payoffs for going wide are much worse (only one pack for the Trial, no Inspired Charge, etc.). Vizier of the True can be very strong but its body is so vulnerable for a 4-drop it's hard to leverage it if you haven't been pressuring so you can threaten an alpha when it comes down.
The people I've seen have success with it end up drafting a lot of flyers and when the inevitable board stall happen they have more than the opponent has removal.

I'm not complaining about how it affects my results, though, my issue is that overall, allowing these extremes make the drafts worse because the gain (of not being able to map the print runs as easily) doesn't beat the downside (all these unbalanced packs).
You can argue that it promotes yet another skill at drafting to be able to navigate despite these, or be able to recover from them affecting the draft (be it for you or your neighbours), which is true, but I don't think it's a very interesting one because having to deal with these packs at all isn't satisfying, even if you navigate them well. I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear? + Show Spoiler +
Note that what I mentioned about green in tonight's pack 1 isn't that, in case there was confusion; I'm talking about lopsided packs colour-wise regardless of the quality, tonight's pack 1 was about overall low quality for a colour amongst the pod's 6 packs, so it doesn't affect what I'm talking about here.

For what it's worth, in case you're saying this related to my grip about people switching or cutting "splashes" super late: I've had bad drafts that still felt satisfying, because you get to try and navigate them, you know things aren't going well and you're trying to make do.
My grip is more with drafts that go 100 to 0 (to exaggerate) in a sudden drop, very late in the process. It's generally too late to switch (or splash if you haven't it already set up) at that point, and your agency is reduced to very little.
Obviously I'm currently influenced by the fact that of my last 5 drafts, 2 had someone switch very late for a non-signal, 2 had someone straight-up force a non-open colour and screw everyone already in it (there's overlap), along with the absurd magical christmas hands and variance I've experienced. Same with when I was in an open pair but only drafted half or a third of pack 3 because the colour was simply so lacking in a bunch of them that it was depleted even with an average number of people in it. I'll admit to that.

On the other hand the fact that it's happened so often compared to other formats is also what makes me so lukewarm to HOU. That's also related to the players since they're the ones being so fickle, but I believe the way the format (and in part the new print runs) is set up plays a part in that (hence the comment about AKH probably not being affected as much because it rewarded consistency over these gambles).

It's not about results either, until tonight where the draw is gonna muddy things, I actually had an exact 2-1 average score, which is pretty darn consistent. I've had 2-1s feel miserable and 1-2 actually have a challenging and interesting drafting phase (game-wise they all featured at least one round being a non-match for one of the players so I can't comment about the plays). As I mentioned I did decently tonight, but even if I'd 3-0'd the draft portion'd have felt miserable.
Like if I opened Sarcophagus or the Mill curse pack 1 (and assuming an 8-man pod so I'd have a realistic shot at enablers), I've said I'd try them, I don't mind whacky things.

So I guess the tl;dr is that I don't mind hard drafts, I just get frustrated by ones randomly thrown into disarray super late, and as a result I mind formats and other factors (like the print runs) that tend to promote it, like the current one. The print run thing may be balanced out in the long run, but when it happens the cons outweight the pros so much I personally believe it isn't worth it. + Show Spoiler +
I dunno how to take the fact that my opinion's reminding me of Riot's reasoning for "unfun" things: "it's cool but so unfun for the people on the receiving end we don't think it's a net positive" D:

It was banned for less than twelve hours. They've already cut a deal with valve where Malaysians won't have access to that one game only.

But I mean, we are the country that banned the word "hot dog" because Muslims might think it contained dog. It's par for the course.

Also I feel dirty for calling Malaysia "we".

Pretty sure he's talking about the Starcraft caster, not the SKT support.

Yeah I met the caster. Also met the LCK casters last night? Olderish very chill friendly American guy and an Australian with nice hair?

They were really nice guys. It was fun.

Will try to take some pics of the games for you guys. Apparently it's gonna be the first broadcast games of remastered so it's a semi big deal.

If it was this guy and the Not Travis guy, then yes, you did. At least for OGN.

Also, nice. I wasn't sure if the scene was going to make the switch to Remastered.

Even with the random client bugs people really appreciate having real matchmaking/ladder and, if you're in the right region, easy-to-find matches with Koreans.
