After a few weeks of listening to everybody harp on about it i expected more. Alot more. Go back to mtg you elitist pig. Only 2nd rate easy games allowed in this subforum. You can take your mechanically superior and deeper card game to the dota forum.

You more or less do the exact same thing about random encounters and then you have a specific strategy for a boss, but such strategy is either very simple or reliant on hindsight (oh, who woulda thought this boss can confuse all of my party at once? How cute! Better change my party to adapt to that once I die...) Like I played the Fire Emblem 11 on highest difficulty and it was a fucking blast because every tactical error and every bad strategy got punished hard on each map, but you had all the info you needed right at the start and you had to genuinely outsmart the map. Then by chapter 8 it got a lot easier, supposedly it gets harder by the end but meh got bored then. Eh, never ever get near the Atlus games, if the viciousness of the traps doesn't drive you away (floor with non-distinct tiles sending you back to the previous one, or without any lighting at all) then the "hindsight" aspect of most bosses and several enemies will. And if not, then the strength of the instakill spells coupled with "dead protagonist = instant game over, no res spell/item". ![]() The games are really harsh (the Persona spin-off less so), with recurring plot devices and themes from one to another, but the treatment, the combat system and the compendium still make them enjoyable. FF IV and the way the group keeps shifting keeps a bit of dynamism through-out, I thought, while FF V has a system that revolves around planning what you want (especially if you want to reduce grinding) and combo to find and abuse so if you like optimisation I'd have thought you'd like that part. FF VII has this problem where even whatever materias you equip, past the early game summons > attacks > offensive magic, with a few exceptions (Vincent was my battle-mage covered in green materia and despite the stat drop and naturally leaning toward magic he still hit harder with basic attacks at the end of the game). I liked the stories from FF IV-VI; I mean, sure you're looking at a classic done right rather than a ground-breaking piece when playing the 4th, and the 5th is more like a succession of nice scenes than a mind-blowing overarching plot, and maybe I'm just easy, but 't'was enough to satisfy me. The 6th is more about the characters and the little things that differ from how this kind of story usually turns out.

good plan alaric, never change most ppl play FF for the experience, not the difficulty. its not terribly hard unless you do specific challenges beyond just beating the game

The characters seem incredibly bland, I don't recall the story precisely but the only interesting character was more or less the amnesia guy, and that was only because he had amnesia at the start. None of the characters have that much personality. The story itself is more or less the same as the other FFs: you try to stop the bad guy from destroying crystals, he destroys them and then you battle his final form and defeat him anyway. The only thing this game tries to spice it up is the interaction with previous generation of heroes and that is very sparse too. Yeah. I did really like its job system and the world setting of FF5. Pretty sure that the thing that really holds it all together is the music, though. Clash on the Big Bridge (Gilgamesh) has got to be one of the best ever.
