Still pretty damn rare though, I guess the maps are just too samey to see a huge amount of genuinely different stuff. Golden Wall was a good map for funky stuff while still lending itself to relatively standard games, but maps like that are pretty thin on the ground.

That shit is literally unavoidable Zerg has to burrow infestor to land a good fungal, Protoss has to hide their HT in prism to land a “decent” storm, where as terran just need literally does not need to do anything special to land their emp. Let’s be honest, terran spellxasters requires the least amount of skills compare to the other races. Should be nerf the ghost so they can’t auto attack?

I think the biggest tournament of the year deserves it. They do it with smaller tournaments than this one.. IMO...TT

What I genuinely don't understand, is that people reduce the achievements of Serral to those (maybe even legitimate) balance complaints. I thought there was a consensus that the most recent patch (with, among other things, the big cyclone change) was generally a Zerg-nerf, no? And yet, Serral dominance stays. If it was _purely_ a race and map thing, then that doesn't explain that Serral not only beats other races, but also other zergs in a equally dominant manner a lot of the times. [...] Amazing 10/10 post, thank you for the effort writing this up and in such a responsible manner (indicating parts you weren't sure about, etc.) It's actually insane how dominant Serral has been. And i remember in 2018-2019 people were wondering if that would be his peak. He had a little lull when he was struggling vs Reynor but after that in 2021 or so he started winning a lot again. Was that his peak? Nope, he's still on the rise. And now in 2024. Is this his peak? It very well might be, how much farther can you go statistically when you're already 4-0'ing and winning 95% of your games like what the fuck? It's absolutely insane that his only losses are like to the other top 5 players and the last time he lost to a top 20 player was SHIN 1 year ago. That is absolutely insane, not even Flash or any other SC1/SC2 player was ever this dominant. How do you have a 90-95% winrate vs other top pros. That's just insane. Also thanks for the followup post about the build in Equilibrium vs Dark. I'm a bit sad, because i was quite tired and getting sleepy, but really wanted to pay attention and enjoy the stream live knowing that it was a hype tournament with lots of top players making it to the top rounds (Serral vs Dark and Maru vs Cure is pretty perfect, though Maru vs Clem would work too, if only there was a 3rd match being herO vs Maxpax somehow lol). But I was just too sleepy and not mentally sharp anymore despite how much I wanted to pay attention... my brain barely was paying attention and I feel pretty sad that i may have missed out on a once in a decade kind of live experience, with Maru vs Serral finally happening in a big finals and at a time when they both are in form and have good cases for GOAT (and also at a time when SC2 is declining and this might be the last chance we get this to be as good as this). Oh well though I'll go back and watch the VODs and enjoy. I did remember being alert when the casters got impressed at Serral's walloff at his gold, i was like wtf that's so cool lol. And when Maru was doing well and Radhuset got mined out but Serral winning. And the pooperlords and consuming proxy hatches and stuff. Serral is awesome.

There have been now about two years to write the article for his 2022 IEM Katowice World Championship victory, but we are still waiting. Simple fanboyism or parodic Korean elitism doesn't hurt anyone much on a level of commentary, or even narrative, but it really hurt when it is systemic in it's nature. Lack of World Championship article of 2022 on the winner would make sense if there wouldn't be myriads of threads about ESL weeklies, as example. Perceived publicationworthiness seems to depend on WHO is a winner in these parts, and that is what sucks.

Sounds like he's trying to dodge. If he's the best why doesn't he just PROVE himself
