It was a lost position but that meant his season is over - perhaps frustration He GG'd about 5 seconds earlier then you might expect where players sit in that "processing phase", but if you freeze at the game's end, Maru has double his army supply and is seconds away from killing the 3rd and 4th (as the main mines out) along with all of the undefended drones, ovies and creep. I don't think he has to stay for the extra moment to watch that nor scouting Maru landing a 4th while he sits on 2 mostly mined out bases.

I was also really surprised that both players didn't keep a handful of ravens consistently. Maru made 7 fairly early but once those died he stopped making them for quite a while and only made a couple more until the end of the game. Gumiho made even less.

Maru seemed to be consistently trading better for the 3-4 minutes before that and then near instantly lost with a 5k/5k bank. The BCs did seem pretty detrimental to his ability to take a good fight but I do wonder how it would have gone if he had pulled SCVs to repair his BCs/Vikings during the fight. I was also wondering if mass liberators would fair better against mass vikings, esp when paired together with Ravens and their anti-armour missiles. Gumiho's 30+ vikings just looked super oppressive...

I think it's just tough to strike the right balance between vikings and liberators (and ravens) in these situations and it's easier to just build all the vikings. also easier to control. but in theory, liberators firing AOE damage at like 30-40 vikings with armor shredding on them should be very scary. can also then use libs to zone ground and harass workers.

But, as a player, what does Solar really bring to the table in the matchup except dronning as hard as possible and making tonnes of LBH(V) to overhwelm the opponent? I saw very little variation and creativity in his planning, only reactions to what his opponents did.

Or just sneakily building 60 Marines and run them underneath the Vikings. Which, if I remember correctly was what Maru did to Cure in one of the GSL finals games last season. I remember Cure having a bunch of vikings (way more than Maru), and Maru just transitioned back to mass marines because Cure did not have many tanks at that point in time. I think Maru didn't do it this time because Gumiho never really gave him the time to do so.

Yeah, because at that time Maru went with full Bio before transition into Starport units, so his Marines were fully upgrade when he made the switch at the end. This time Maru committed to air super early to match Gumiho mech style, so he never really developed his infantry units.

Not that any of us should be lecturing Maru in TvT, but does he not know that Vikings kinda crush BC's on a supply and resource basis? I do think the SCVs (and there were a lot of them) were repairing the vikings and some of the SCVs were also building turrets at the bottom. Without the SCVs, I do think Maru would have absolutely won that fight.

This makes me a bit more confident for Maru's 7th GSL win (that he took time to understand the loss), now that his TvT is not invincible everyone is a threat no matter the results in group B: Cure / herO / Dark being obviously dangerous or even TY (if he somehow manages to survive this insane group) in the semifinals, then Gumiho or one of the three aforementioned.

He didnt really expect to win GSL last season from the way he talked about it, it just happened to hit him in the head. nothing's scarier than a player who's not feeling any pressure
