2015 was the year. PartinG, herO, Maru, and Life were the best players of their races and also the most entertaining to watch.

Plus guys like Zest, INno, Rain were still up there as well even if they weren't there absolute best.

and then we had 2016 lol, now that was a bad year

The ByuN storyline was pretty cool though and with Zest vs TY and Dark vs ByuN it had two of the best individual games of all time.

And Maru had a flash level proleague season. Almost all his SPL games were incredible

and then he couldn't qualify for gsl one season, what a weird year

He was probably the second (or maybe third) best player in the world that season as well. Facing Zest (who was number one) in Code A might be the worst bracket luck ever.

If we measure it by performance vs Zest it's pretty clear Maru couldn't have been the second best

Debatable. While the score was one sided, the games were crazy. The score being 3-0 is very misleading to how close it was. TY "only" lost 4-2 , but all the games he did lose were roflstomps.

Plus Maru smacked Zest, TY, Stats, and Dark in proleague afterwoods.

Only 1 game between Maru and Zest in the Code A match was any close at all, Maru got stomped afterwards. He also did not smack Zest or TY in Proleague, unless you now smack someone if you barely come back from a deficit.

he definitely wrecked TY in the Proleague grandfinals

That was a few months after Zest won GSL though so it doesn't count

I dunno he beat Zest pretty solidly in proleague, held off the early aggression and just outplayed him in the longer game

And he went 3-0 against TY in proleague that season

remember that awful gold base map? Prion terrace or something like that

First the gold base was a 3rd so it was super Zerg favored. Then the gold base got moved to the natural and it was suddenly very good for Protoss

He also did not smack Zest or TY in Proleague, unless you now smack someone if you barely come back from a deficit.

remember that awful gold base map? Prion terrace or something like that

First the gold base was a 3rd so it was super Zerg favored. Then the gold base got moved to the natural and it was suddenly very good for Protoss

zerg could max out on roach ravager while terran had maybe 120 supply, good times

Only way to win is to kite them with tankivacs starting at their natural
Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes.
