You know, it's okay to think Several is merely "really good" without all the superlatives. That's not being a hater or an elitist.
merely "really good". Lol TL korean elitists are some of the weirdest people I voluntarily deal with. I swear if Serral was born in SK and came up through some Kespa team you would worship this guy to no end. Look at the disbelief in Rogues face at the end of game 4. The formerly best macro Zerg in the world just played his heart out and he felt helpless.
Maru was born in SK, he dominated the Korean scene the same way Serral did thr foreign and NONE OF YOU declared him Bonjwa. By far the biggest player achievement. By far the hardest competition on the Earth. And yet the discussion was closed. And now we have Serral, who won an invitational, lsot the onlly offline game against Maru, never won Korean starleague title(not talking about back to back win), is dominating the easier competition(from the 8 best players at Blizzcon only 2 advanced from groups) and he should be declared Bonjwa because his fans say so? Seriously?
I heard the term bonjwa being dropped on Maru like a thousand times this year. Especially after winning the third one in the row. If Maru stomped Blizzcon like Serral is currently doing he would be a lock for bonjwa status in my book. But he didnt. He got 3:0ed by SoS, the same player Serral made look like a fool. Serral has to prove more to obtain bonjwa status, but the term being dropped while talking about him is not suprising.
And similarly sOs when he was winning his last tournament while he didn't bring the same play in Code S. But considering someone who's avoiding starleagues to be Bonjwa would mean that WCS is the biggest and hardest SC2 competition Which it isn't (At least not now, if we wait few years Korean Army will solve this).

I don't know what it is with this ratcheted-up aggression over this. Some people (like myself) think Mvp is overrated. Some people think Stephano was never half as good as some people would have it. Some people think Taeja is one of the best if not THE very best Terran of all time, others don't. You're playing this up as if there is some monolith that automatically raises Korean high-performing players to the highest of superlatives and if the very same players had been non-Korean they would have been deemed uninteresting or unworthy of praise. I don't know where you're seeing that, but it's pretty inane. I think Serral is really good and probably a lock to either beat Stats or at least make the finals really close, but I also don't need to approve of this notion that he's doing some otherworldly thing and revolutionizing the game in a way that has never been done before. I just think he's a really good player. I don't know what your problem is with that.
You are obviously entitled to your opinion. But let other people have their hypeespecially if its deserved like it is for Serral. This TL threads just seem so toxic to me everytime a foreigner achieves something. If kr loses its blizzards fault for killing the scene. If the foreigner loses he was overrated anyway. If a caster calls out a great play in a hyped moment it is annoying hyperbole.

He is right tho... Rogue, the best Korean zerg by far, best Korean ZvZ player (maybe tied with soO) did bring our his A-game today. And it was close, but not enough. Serral is legit and deserves to be in a Bonjwa discussion at this point. Same as Maru.
None of them deserves the Bonjwa status and I am a Maru fanboy. Just sain
That is just playing with words. Replace Bonjwa with player of the year... Better? For me, Bonjwa is just someone who is dominating the scene for a long period of time. Not just player with most medals in that year, but someone who is almost untouchable and other players fear to face that player. Both Maru and Serral currently have that status, but Serral is just slightly more intimidating for me personally because he is a foreigner

On an even patch in TvZ Maru trashed Serral 3-0
oh so it's cause of balance
of course it is
What? Serral didn't play an offline bo3+ vs Maru outside of that event
I'd still favor Maru in the finals vs Serral if he did beat sOs and Stats

70k is a pitiful number for any advertiser outside of gaming industry tbh.
I mean i get that but it is a pretty specific audience, and it falls within the demographic advertisers are most interested in. there really isn't a shitty computer accessory company out there that wouldn't fork of a few grand for an add spot or 12? Corsair? NZXT? what the fuck are they spending add dollars on if not this?

Such a damn shame he didn't get to face TY or Maru.
I mean, if he had faced TY, then we wouldn't have seen Serral vs Rogue, so I'm okay that TY had to lose so that we could see that epic series.
It is a damn shame about Maru though. Why did he have to be so stubborn and try to proxy every game?!
I do wish we could've seen Serral demonstrate his ZvT against a top Korean at some point during this tournament, but this finals is still pretty hype. I'm sure Stats has been aware enough of this possibility to have some kind of plan.
I'll never get that Korea vs. the rest of the world stuff. Serral has shown both in GSL vs. The World and during the WCS finals that he can beat EVERY korean. Yes, there hasn't been a longer series between him and Maru, which is a shame. But even if Serral loses to Stats, there's no point in artificially diminishing his success. He's one of the absolute best players in the world. And if he takes the whole thing he's the world champion, which means he's the best player of 2018. Period.
The "b" word has been thrown several times during SC2, but imho only Maru (if he had won Blizzcon) and Serral really have shown bonjwa level dominance. Mvp' dominated in a very early stage of the game, much like Boxer did back in the day. (Boxer is considered a bonjwa due to his revolutionary playstyle, but statistically he was only very good but nowhere near the level of dominance of Nada/oov/Voldemort during their respective peaks. (And then there's that KT terran, but that's another story...)
As for other SC2 greats like sOs, Inno or the other one who shall not be named: They were insanely good at some point, but never dominated a whole year. Looking at the BW banjos, that's basically how you get the "title".
It's a shame that Serral hasn't played at least one GSL, but I fully understand his decision to stay in the circuit. Moving to Korea is not suited for everyone, my impression of Serral is that he really likes practicing in his known environment.
Enough wall of text. Enjoy the finals. Both Serral and Stats are the best players of their respective races. Let's hope for a 4-3.
