I've been involved in the SC2 scene for a while now and I thought it would be fun to give back to the community by organizing my very own SC2 tournament. I'm currently involved with a gaming startup (www.rekt.gg) and they are the sponsor for this event (hence the name).

Alright everyone!
SURPRISE! This event generated a lot more interest than we anticipated and therefore we've decided to let everyone play who signed up (you still need to register and meet the criteria though).
As with all online events, it's hard to predict who will show up. For now, since we have way over 32 signups (64, in fact), we're going to plan this as a 64 man event. In the case your opponent does not show up, you simply get a bye on the first round.
If we have to play a Ro64, then it will be best of 3, not 5. The rest of the tournament will be bo5 and the finals will be bo7.
Important info that you must read:
REGISTRATION
-Go to the NA Server
-Join the group REKTSC2 and make sure that you talk to an admin at least 1 hour before the event starts. That's 12PM EST.
BRACKET
-http://challonge.com/rektsc2jan17
-Bracket will be posted 30 minutes before the event starts. Find your opponent ASAP in the REKTSC2 group
SCORE REPORTING
-The winner will report the score to the admin. Find an admin in the REKTSC2 channel and make sure they acknowledge your score submission.
-If there are any disputes or accusations of cheating, you MUST save the replay and get in touch with an admin
IN GAME
-We're not going to enforce KESPA rules and all, but just be polite to your opponent. You can greet your opponent and make a little bit of small talk but don't badger them and don't BM.
-No offensive GGs. The first person to type GG in any game will be considered to have forfeited the match.
-If you need to pause, type PP, pause, and then explain why you paused and how much time you need.
-When in doubt, contact the admin.
Casting:
-We won't be casting all games but we'll try to cast as many games as possible. If your game is going to be shown on stream, we'll let you know beforehand and our broadcaster/commentators will hop in the game with you.
Observing
-STRICTLY NO OBSERVERS ALLOWED except for tournament staff. There is no exception to this.
A couple of things:
1) Please tell everyone you know about this tournament!

I'm not talking about the actual file upload time (which btw apparently has a size limit that isn't mentioned anywhere) but the time it takes to buffer the video, prepare it for editing which is not even available atm, and then to appear on the site after adding title and other stuff.
Also that's not the whole game. I've cut all the parts with no action in them.

Thanks for mentioning this stuff. We're gathering a lot of feedback while we work on the platform and wanted to leave it a bit open ended to see how people use it.
Speed- simply a money thing. We'll start paying for faster servers soon so this won't be an issue.
Editing- we're still working on this, but where you see "edit" there will be a video editor. You'll be able to trim your video, add text, music, emojis, etc.
Clip length - we didn't mention anything specifically to see what users' expectations were. however, the site is mainly supposed to be short clips and we'll be implementing a length limit as soon as our video editor is done (so that people have the tool they need to trim it). We didn't want to force short clips from the beginning in case people didn't have access to an editor.
Ultimately rekt is supposed to be about editing, sharing, and interacting over short impactful clips. So there's still a little work to do. Thanks for your feedback mate and thanks for participating!

Maybe you could include a group stage? 8 groups followed by a final bracket. If you're ok with it taking a bit longer, it would be fun to play a GSL-type tournament as a low-leaguer.

Single elimination makes the experience not so fun. You should do a group stage so 8 groups of 4 but have each match be BO 1 to save time, this way if you lose you at least have one more game.

I think bo1 is kind of a coin flip. At least make the decider matches (for the 1st and 2nd place) bo3.

I’ve been a part of group stages in the past, and they take a VERY long time especially online.
IMO if this one is successful I could see it growing in scope, but for the first go at it I think BO1 is the right decision.

I think if people don't want Bo1 then it should stay 16 people... Bo1 is so coinflippy but 32 people bo3 would just take way too long. And group stages take FOREVER, especially with strangers online.

How about this idea for the round of 32 and 16 do group stage (double elimination) but Bo 1 matches.
In the round of 8 do another group stage (double elimination) and have Bo 1 matches for everything but the final elimination match make it a Bo 3.
Then you have a 4 player single elimination bracket that can be Bo 3.

The thing that takes the longest is finding your opponent, friending him, making sure that you report the score, seeing who won the game you have to play next, etc.
So a ton of Bo1s is like the longest possible scenario.
I'd rather have a lot of Bo3s.

Plus bo1 is a complete coin flip. Not the best option for a tournament.

32 player single elim Bo3 would be best I think. Bo5 semis, Bo7 Finals. Every game woudn't be casted, but you'd be able to do it in a day, which is desireable.
Also, the prize pool you offered could easily be an open tourney and attract pretty much any pro player. So, not going to complain about the chanc to win some decent cash. Just saying you could've made it an open to attract a higher caliber of players. Also, those players would've attracted more viewers to the stream (if that's what you're after). Just my thoughts!
Also, are you guys looking for staff? Organizers, casters, etc?

I think you have to do round of 32 group stage Bo 1 and group stage round of 16 bo 1. The finals and semis don't need to be longer than bo 3. Think about the experience for the majority of players its better if they get more than one game in the tournament.

So I wanted to make a highlight reel for rekt.gg. Unfortunately, im a noob video maker. I think it would be worthwhile for a site like rekt.gg to have a instructions page. Part of why people don't upload could be for this reason. If you had video upload tips page I predict many would find it useful

HEADS UP!
Due to overwhelming interest, we're changing the format.
New format:
32 players
Single elimination (ro32, ro16, ro8, quarter finals, semis, finals)
Bo5 until finals
We thought this new format would give a lot more people a chance to participate but also eliminate some of the chance factor resulting from Bo3 series.
ALSO,
We're up to 54 signups total! This means we still have more than enough players. A rekt.gg post is basically a FREE PASS (*HINT HINT) into the tournament.

Alright everyone!
SURPRISE! This event generated a lot more interest than we anticipated and therefore we've decided to let everyone play who signed up (you still need to register and meet the criteria though).
As with all online events, it's hard to predict who will show up. For now, since we have way over 32 signups (64, in fact), we're going to plan this as a 64 man event. In the case your opponent does not show up, you simply get a bye on the first round.
If we have to play a Ro64, then it will be best of 3, not 5. The rest of the tournament will be bo5 and the finals will be bo7.
Important info that you must read:
REGISTRATION
-Go to the NA Server
-Join the group REKTSC2 and make sure that you talk to an admin at least 1 hour before the event starts. That's 12PM EST.
BRACKET
-http://challonge.com/rektsc2jan17
-Bracket will be posted 30 minutes before the event starts. Find your opponent ASAP in the REKTSC2 group
SCORE REPORTING
-The winner will report the score to the admin. Find an admin in the REKTSC2 channel and make sure they acknowledge your score submission.
-If there are any disputes or accusations of cheating, you MUST save the replay and get in touch with an admin
IN GAME
-We're not going to enforce KESPA rules and all, but just be polite to your opponent. You can greet your opponent and make a little bit of small talk but don't badger them and don't BM.
-No offensive GGs. The first person to type GG in any game will be considered to have forfeited the match.
-If you need to pause, type PP, pause, and then explain why you paused and how much time you need.
-When in doubt, contact the admin.
Casting:
-We won't be casting all games but we'll try to cast as many games as possible. If your game is going to be shown on stream, we'll let you know beforehand and our broadcaster/commentators will hop in the game with you.
Observing
-STRICTLY NO OBSERVERS ALLOWED except for tournament staff. There is no exception to this.
A couple of things:
1) Please tell everyone you know about this tournament!

We decided to allow everyone who signs up to play, since demand is so high! As long as you sign up and you meet the requirements you can play!

As for more STARCRAFT events, I personally am a huge SC2 fan, but it depends on the success of this event. If people dig it and they're willing to watch amateurs play for the lulz, then sure!

I think we're going to try and get 3-4 series in the first day and finish the rest on Sunday. Assuming you advance far enough that it matters, we could try to make something work.

@DinoMight Is there a way to make the 2nd part of the Tournament start earlier? It starts ~10pm EU time. On saturdays that's not really a Problem but it will conflict with school/work on the Monday.
