hi guys,
im an old sc bw player and don't follow the esports for sc2. (long time without login in here!)

i saw some advertising for this tournament and watch some games. can someone answer some silly questions?
Where are the koreans? (just one). On sc1 99,9% of the best players were korean. how is the scenario for sc2? Koreans still dominate or not that much?

there are 2 player left with "team liquid" as team. On sc1 we had some player but well...with koreans dominating they would only fight on non-korean tournaments. Is tl.net strong on sc2?

Watching all this live is amazing. The only problem i saw was twitch getting rekt for some reason but in general it looked super smooth. I wasnt aware of the audio issues, i will try to tell them about it. I wish i had internet there to do some live report but well not much i can do about that. Tomorrow i will make a sign for tje LR Thread and i hope you can watch it on thr stream
i would define my style between a mix of ByuN, Maru and MKP

The WCS format barred the majority of Koreans from playing in overseas (Non-Korea) tourneys as Koreans were dominating too hard, and they wanted to try something different to try boost the foreign scene. There is still 4 or so Koreans playing in WCS through Visas or whatever and in general they are among the better players.

Koreans are generally still accepted to be stronger, but since there is no cross competiton it's hard to say if the foreign scene is catching up or not. I guess we'll see at Blizzcon.

TL is one of the strongest foreign teams, they used to also have two very strong Korean players (Who played in WCS) who they just recently parted ways with.

This tournament is part of the WCS Circuit which is region-locked so most Koreans aren't eligible to play in it. A few are due to Visas, but most of them failed to qualify for this particular tournament. The Korean tournaments are the GSL (whose finals was yesterday) and the SSL (whose finals is in 5 hours. Watch it if you can!)

In SCII the best players are still Korean, but it's much closer than in SCI, so it isn't too unusual to see top non-Korean pros win series against Korean players. Exactly how good non-Koreans are compared to Korean is still a point of contention among the community.

As for Team Liquid, its team is fairly strong with Snute and uThermal who are both top foreign pros, and has been strong throughout most of SCII. TaeJa (Korean) used to be on Team Liquid before his retirement and was one of the Greatest Players of All Time™.

I forget, but did HerO leave because of the region lock? I know Taeja left because he got more prestige getting ro8 GSL instead of ro8 WCS America.

The only thing I would add to that is that the foreign scene has begun to do a bit better in online cups. And that's super relevant now that Byun won GSL. I would say that the number of times Polt/Hydra/True have not all qualified for certain events is somewhat indicative of the foreign scene's strength because these players are some of the better players, but they are not necessarily the best players (or at the very least they are not the best by a large margin).

Definitely the best possible top 4 imo, could be great if there are no long breaks and technical difficulties today!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

As far as I know, Polt hasn't failed to qualify for any WCS tournament this year, he has though chosen not to participate if I'm correct. Recent WCS Shanghai would be an example of one where he didn't go. So we can't say that the foreign scene is getting better if Koreans are willing opting out.

Polt didn't attempt qualification for the Copa I believe but TRUE did. So this one is half and half.

Polt also said on stream he may not go for Kespa Cup as the qualification is on KR and he can't handle the ping.

Edit: I'm not demeaning your point as such just want to say that we can't use tournaments with no qualified Koreans as a barometer for KvF if they willingly choose not to enter.
